  • Wii guns.

Well, the Zapper is out, but there's more to the market than that.

So, let's look at a few samples.

The Official Wii Zapper accessory. Locks in your Wiimote and Nunchuck, and comes bundled with Link's Crossbow Training.

Personally, this looks very uncomfortable, mainly because the front and back handles seem very close. I haven't gotten to try one, though, unfortunately.

Prototype Zapper. Mostly the same as the one that made it to production. This looks a bit better, as long as you only have to operate the nunchuck buttons. Finger slot might be a bit small, though.

Third party accessory. I personally thinks this LOOKS the best, and would be the most fun to use, but there are two problems: games are sadly going to expect the Nunchuck, so you're going to have that dangling off (it has a passthrough port so you can still hook things in), and you can't operate the buttons on top. Hopefully someone will manage to reverse engineer and manufacture third party Wii controllers so someone can build a lightgun that has the needed buttons in reach of the thumb. If someone made a good one, I'd probably buy it just so I could do an re4 handgun run and look like a jackass.

Sticking my Wii Remote in a cheap plastic holster that adds absolutely nothing to the functionality makes games more fun?

The Remote was designed to simulate objects like guns, steering wheels and swords. Why do I need cheap plastic shells that look like those objects in order to appreciate its versatility?

I own the Nintendo one. Link's crossbow training is good short fun. I know I'm getting the RE Chronicles for Christmas (I peeked lol) so I haven't really used it for anything but the crossbow game. I think its really aimed more at the younger crowd. My eldest grandson really can play better with the gun than without it.

There is an added functionality- the way you hold it, and the triggers. A good one could also function to make it far more realistic, and make games playable with a single hand in a neat package.
            ------------------------------------------
The point isn't to make the Wii remote look like those items, it's to make the wiimote more usable. Things like sword attachments just make it larger, stuff like light guns can actually make it significantly different.

I understand some people may find it easier to have the cradle to hold the Wiimote and Nunchuk up like that, though so far in my experience I've found it to be extremely useless and mainly for aesthetics. Is there a game yet that requires you to hold the WiiMote up like a gun or is it still best to hold it at waist level and point upward?

The bottom one to me is the best, compact with the good old nunchuck on it too. doesn't look the best but who cares.

Is there some secret disease going around which should be preventing us from doing so?

                          OOOH BURN!!!

Anyway. The Nintnedo one looks a little cumbersome from playing RE4 since the A button is fire.
                          Thanks Kazuki.

PaiPai: well first, I'm talking about gun controllers in general, not just the Nintendo Zapper. Second, no, but a good gun controller makes games more entertaining.

And Aid, there is tons of fun on the Wii, and it's only getting better.
