  • What do you want to see for the PS3, 360, and Wii?

Every console has been out for awhile now, so we should know what we like/dislike about it, and what we want changed. Just to make it clear though, this is about changing the CONSOLE, it's hardware and official accessories, software, etc., but about games FOR said console. Try to limit what you want to 5-10 items per console, so it doesn't get too long to read.

    Personally:

    Wii -
    1. Make VC games free, or very cheap. There is no reason I should pay $5 for a twenty year old game, especially when I can get it for a few coins at a local shop and have the actual game. The Wii would be a very attractive console if, instead of having to pay through the nose for games, I was able to simply select one and play it for free. It would basically make the console more than pay for itself, just through the library of games-- not to mention, I'd probably buy a classic controller or two that way. Or offer a Netflix type service for it-- I pay $10 a month, and I can play any VC game. I would surely burn away thousands of Wii points a year for that.

Basically, no more $10 for N64 games. That's absurd, I could go buy used GameCube games for half that.

    2. Wii Game Demos. I don't care if I have to subscribe to Nintendo Power, if I can just download them, or what, but I want some freakin' demos.

    3. Wireless Nunchuck. 'nuff said.

    4. More Wiimote attachments. Yes, the nunchuck is useful, but there's a reason that there is a port on the Wiimote, right? How about a modified nunchuck with a second pointer for dual wielder gun games (and putting a trigger button below it, of course)? Or a keyboard that builds in the Wiimote so that we can use the console without having to point? Being able to plug a wiimote into a keyboard and then navigate with that would both be one of the few things that could get me to buy another keyboard, very good for making MMOs more possible, and nice for the internet channel. A PS2 example:

Basically, make it so I can use a keyboard with the Wii without having to constantly pick up and put down the Wiimote.

Really, there are more possibilities out there for Wiimote attachments, I wanna see some!

    5. DVD playback. As a software patch, not a new console, if even remotely possible.. And free. This would allow me to take yet another item off my entertainment center, and really, compared to Bluray and HDDVD, is the least you could do.

    PS3:

    1. Unlock hardware in other OS modes. PS3 could be both a good gaming computer and a great homebrew platform if the hardware wasn't locked out.

    2. Lower the price. I refuse to pay that much for a console, it's silly, and I honestly don't care if you have bluray. DVD was nice enough to be a selling point when PS2 came out, and now I have more DVD players in my house than I can shake a stick at. I don't even have any plans to buy Bluray movies, and they have no benefit to me, so I have no interest in wasting money on it.

    3. Larger hard drive size. This would be very cheap to do, and make the PS3 a much better console for use as a computer (again, see #1).

    360:

I honestly have no interest in this console, so I can't really say what I think it needs.

Unfortunately, sony's already taking a big enough hit as it is on the recent price cuts for the PS3, so I don't expect them to lower the price anymore than it is now for awhile. If they did, it would be comparable to the price of the wii and people would probably be jumping to get the PS3.

    1. I Star Wars, so a change I'd like to see is a motion lightsaber controller. PS3 supports six-axis, and I would love to play "The Force Unleashed" in first person mode.

I don't think people would be jumping for the PS3, it's games selection is still rather meh, but having reasonable prices would definitely help. Of course, they are already taking a hit on the hardware, but is the hit they'd take by making it cheaper more than what they'll lose by making it unpopular?

I would like to see free versions of each console being shipped to me. Barring that, I don't really have any expectations.

I want to see Rez and Ikaruga ship sooner on Xbox Live Arcade. As a matter of fact, I'd like Microsoft to give us some kind of release schedule for arcade titles in advance, rather than announcing them two days ahead.

Oh yeah, and I'd like to see Treasure finish that 360 project that they've been working on. And Square Enix to announce and ship that next-gen MMO sometime next year.

Edit: I wouldn't mind a Radiant Silvergun port, since they're almost done with Ikaruga... I love my Saturn, but it won't last forever...

Perhaps you meant to say not instead of but, then? You ended up missing it a second time after quoting yourself though, so perhaps you should clear that up instead of being a smartass. I read your post as is.

Feba, 100% agree on your PS3 stance.

I would love to see more games out there that can literally break the limits of the console like how most games that are new for the ps2 are at the boundries but still weak incomparison to the ps3 for pushing limitations. Though I love how most ps2 games on multiple console releases, can out do the 360 considering its the newer system.

Lets see a new game that literally takes hand and voice movement to play.
Yes, I think we all remember that n64 game that tried that with the voice function. But given there are software, cell phones and customer service programs out there that can read human voices, why not video games? Throw in some A.I. take is literally intelligent as the user at the start and develope its own personality for an rpg game. With the hand movements, make some thin comfortable gloves that can perfectly reproduce the movements of the hand down to the letter for any kind of games to act as the controllers or to be the character's actual hands.

                    Dude, get your own.

As for Linux, I have no idea what any of this means, but apparently people are getting a small step closer to RSX access.

                    As for my opinion...

Wii: Developers need to do two things: produce games with higher production values and produce games that don't use the Wii Remote functions just for the sake of it. I agree that VC games are far too expensive. I disagree that it needs more accessories. If the controller was that revolutionary, we wouldn't have to buy various add-ons and attachments to make it more functional. It's good enough as it is, third parties just need to figure out how they want to use it. I don't see the future bright for Wii as far as hardcore games go (not that I mind, as Brawl is enough to justify my purchase of the console), but I haven't had much hope since Nintendo's E3 conference that they still care about the hardcore gamer.

360: Lower priced, more reliable hardware. Free Xbox Live. Everything else is there. Get rid of that atrocious hardware failure rate and I'm practically sold on getting an Elite.

PS3: Proper online community functionality. It was bad enough that Sony ignored functions that make XBL great such as cross-game messaging and invites, but it's even worse that we don't have that now that Home is delayed to next year. Once they get their next price drop down to $299/$399, the platform will be what I would say is proper pricing for the mass market. Third parties are Sony's biggest problem; very few Western developers know how to properly use the hardware (Infinity Ward and Bethesda have proven themselves as the few that do) and even fewer have shown any effort in learning it. PlayStation Edge and Sony's closer relationship with Epic were two big steps towards solving the problem, but SCEA needs to get out there to more third parties and assist them with learning the development environment of the CELL+RSX. There's a massive amount of untapped potential there, and not enough devs are taking advantage of it.

I love the "PS3 doesn't have any games" drivel. People don't seem to understand that 85% of all games are now cross platform. Of those cross platform games, a vast majority of those are PS3 and X360 games. PS3 is now getting into it's exclusive games library, but let's not play like it's the only console has gone 6 to 8 months between worthwhile titles, or that there aren't any games to be played there.

                      As for the original post.

Wii: Seems to require quite a bit more space than the other consoles. I like that the game encourages people to get up and be active, but some of us don't have a lot of room for this. TV's like 4" from the couch and you're trying to play bowling? lol Perhaps we all just need bigger apartments, but that's only gripe I've ever though up of the Wii. I do however really like the idea of demos on the Wii, and more Wii-ttachments(??). One thing I love about the PS3 is the PS Store and the demos. I've decided against games because I went and downloaded the demo and hated it. I've also bought games because the demo was amazing.

PS3: I don't really need more HDD space, but that should have been a non-issue. Even with FFXI on my PS3, I have 20G worth of space left. But in the day and age of 750G HDDs, that just seems retardedly minuscule. No clue what I would do with more space, but damn it I think I should have it.

HOME - Hurry up with it! And make sure in-game XMB is added. Tired of the fan boys bitching about it, and I'm tired of logging out of a game to find out if I need to switch games to play with friends.

I think the DVD was a huge selling point for the PS2, and the PS3 is trying to do the same thing this round. X360 is attempting to do the same thing with their HD DVD push, just they're tacking that additional cost on AFTER you've purchased the console. In the end I think that's a complete after thought for the X360 and you have to think, "what's the point?" Just stick with your DVDs and spend that (Don't know the actual price and too lazy to look so I'm guessing this number.) $200 on an actual player who's prices coming way down.

Recently saw an Ars Technica article talking about Toshiba making much smaller cell chips and cutting the costs for the PS3. My Google Reader search skills suck right now, so I'm unable to link it. But I think before long they will be able to reduce the size of the chips to make it cheaper and more popular for the casual buyers - the ones who run the industry.

X360: Bad press. Bad press. Bad press. Law suits because of failing X360s. Halo 3 speculated to increase X360 crashes. It's become a joke. Talked to a customer the other day and the topic of online gaming came on. He asked me what I played and when I mentioned my PS3 titles he commented on how X360 was where it's at. My response? "Yeah, I hear that Red Ring game's a lotta fun." He was silent for a few seconds, chuckled and then said "that's a low blow man!"

Personally I think the games on there that are worth playing are now available on PC, or there are better games out there to be played. So even if I didn't have my own personal Microsoft boycott still in full force, I don't believe I would purchase one. But I think that's what's killing them right now. They have a huge bulls-eye on them and a lot of what you hear is bad press.

Seriously though, I just wish the Wii suported higher resolutions, playing in low-res is a crime for today's standards.

erm i think you may be getting the ps3 confused with a 360 here. since the 360 is the one with a limit on harddrives. the ps3 uses basic laptop hardrives meaning. you can go to the store. buy a big HDD for the ps3 and stick it in o.O and it wont void the ps3 at all. it explains how to do this in the manual. somewhere

Trust me, HD-DVD is not a selling point on the 360, and there is no "push" from Microsoft's end. Microsoft doesn't give a crap about Blu-Ray or HD-DVD. They're trying to keep the two formats in a stalemate because they're more interested in making digital distribution the format of choice, and so they're doing just enough to maintain customer confusion on which format to choose. If Microsoft really cared about HD-DVD, they would have done a lot more to support it. It's a war to prevent Sony from dominating the living room in both movies and video games.

Of course the PS3 has games. It just doesn't have that many GOOD ones that lots of people are going to want. Only exclusive games really count when you're looking to buy a console, and the only exclusive right now that a lot of people are going to want is Rachet and Clank. The Wii and 360 have very strong first party titles.

Seems to require quite a bit more space than the other consoles.
Do you actually own a Wii? Every single game for Wii (excluding special games like Guitar Hero and DDR), including Wii Sports, can be played sitting down, just like any other console.
