Charged Special Moves

Mastering the chargeable subset of special moves is important.

Take the following moves, for example.

Link’s Standard Special Move: The Hero’s Bow

Pikachu’s Side Special Move: Skull Bash

These moves can be charged up by holding down the special-move button, increasing both speed and power. If you press the button down firmly and then release, you’ll unleash the move at full strength! When you first try out a character you aren’t familiar with, this should be the first thing you try.

But, there are also some moves that continue charging even after you release the button... Huh???

DK’s Standard Special Move: Giant Punch

Samus’s Standard Special Move: Charge Shot

...among others.

For these moves, when you press the special-move button again, it unleashes the move at the power level you charged it to.

Also, with these moves, you can move around while charged by charging the move to the maximum limit or by pressing the shield button to cancel the charge.

Look! Smoke shoots out from his head when he’s reached maximum charge!

Do your best to build up the maximum charge, then unleash it at just the right moment! These are superimportant techniques for characters like DK and Samus. Don’t forget them.

Yeah, well, I hate Charged Special Moves in the first place, but even more so when I'm a Pikachu player and one of those moves is . . .



****ing Skull Bash!

Pikachu can't even use Skull Bash in any of the Pokémon games in the first place, and for a good reason: it sucks!

Something like Slam, or maybe even Light Screen would have made better Side-Special options!

(In fact, I'm really liking the Light Screen idea. Something that lessens the power of projectile attacks against Pikachu. Sort of like a last resort wall against certain attacks. Heck of a lot more useful than Skull Bash, anyways; this is not even mentioning it's far more canonical.)

I wouldn't say they've sucked. I mean, I got a good kick out of Lucas's Final Smash, Saki Amamiya, Smart Bomb, Ice Climbers' Final Smash, Meta Knight's Revenge (!), and the fact that they fixed Handicaps. Sure, they're pretty underwhelming compared to some of the previous updates, but there's been interesting updates nonetheless.

I'm reeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaally happy they're fixing the Handicap. In Melee, handicaps would actually change the character's weights and the strengths of their attacks, which made it incredibly inappropriate for teaching inexperienced players how to play.

I'm not going to go through the trouble of posting them all here, but did anybody else notice that the majority of the Pokémon had graphics that seemed relatively pathetic?

Otherwise, Sakurai gave me no reason to necrobump this. Keep up the good work, Sakurai-san!

"Friend codes" are generated from an identifier unique to a copy of a game and the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection ID of a DS or Wii system. Using a different copy of a game, or loading the same copy in a different system, generates a different Friend code.

The point is if I find someone online that I like, I can't request to add them to my friends list.

If I play Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection on my PS3 online and I find someone who's a good match for me or fun to play against, I can send them a friend request. If I play Rock Band and find a drummer who kicks all kinds of butt, I can send them a friend request. If I play Eye of Judgment and find someone who has a really awesome deck, I can add them to my friends list.

PSN's friend list not only lets me see when my friends are online, but it tells me what they're playing - so if someone is already on Rock Band, I can hop in and send them a request to join me.

None of this is possible with the moronic setup that Nintendo has conceived.

I believe with Nintendo's system, Griefing is going to be a lot less, since you'll never know who just smashed you. I think that may be what they were looking for. It'll just be like fighting against 3 other computers, but you don't know what the difficulty level of those computers are.

Moving back on topic . . .

Dedede's Final Smash.

I imagined the self-proclaimed king of Dreamland being in ever since the first trailer, but I imagined his Final Smash (not knowing what it was called at the time, of course) to be something much better. Like, Idunno, a Giant Hammer slamming down on the entire stage.

But, no, we get another army of minions (see Pit's Final Smash).

Great charactors, Pit and Dedede, and I look forward to playing them both (though, Dedede will be a tad awkward as I'm not used to heavy charactors), but both their Final Smashes happened to fall in the worst category, as far as I see.

Oh, well, at least we also get the occasional Spiky Gordo suprise in there. If it's any compensation.
