  • The grasp of MMORPGs.

I am sure many of you (ok, more realisticly one or two) will remember my farewell post back in the middle of June. I confidently stated that it was highly unlikely I was comming back, as I waas so fusterated there was no way the "FFXI Withdrawl" would hit me. Well it did, and I spent around a month trying to get FFXI to work again on my pos computer, mabye a few will remember the stream of troubleshooting posts about my HDD errors.

Well, I finally got a new computer. I re-installed FFXI. I spent a few hours downloading the updates. And I exited PoL.

After all that time, It seems I have broken away from the withdrawl. I actually realized I didn't really want to play FFXI after all. At first I did, but now...

    I'M FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

I still am a normal RPG addict though. In my absence I have gone through FF V-VII, Oblivion, Twilight Princess and another bout through ADOM.

Anyone know of any other good RPGs?

I personally suggest the Wild Arms series if you can find 'em. They are a great series that don't get enough light in the rpg world. I'm still hoping Sony or someone else releases Wild Arms XF for the PSP in the US.

Yanno, I said I wouldn't come back to XI.

Then I did, about a month ago. My brother laughed said, "I give it a month and you're done again."

..You know what? I think he's right. It doesn't have the draw it once had, and I'm just as annoyed and bored with it as I was before. I'm not sure I foresee me staying much longer.

have to agree, same thing happened to me. I just got bored with the game.

Came back in month... and within the month, already decided to let my content ID expire again, and haven't regretted it since.

FFXI does that I guess, it draws you back, makes you want to do it again... then you realize you still don't like it. EVE did the same thing to me too.

which leaves me in the incredibly annoying position of being addicted to MMOs, but not actually liking anything out there.

Lufia II, FFXII, FFIV, Chrono Trigger, Super Mario RPG

I am partial to the older RPGs if you couldn't tell.

I play PSU actively, but it's mostly a placeholder for when Square Enix's next-gen MMO ships. They keep making coming back to FFXI attractive with various updates, but I've come back so many times that I know it'll just be the same old song and dance.

So yeah... PSU and various other games keep me busy for the time being. If you have a 360, Mass Effect ships in less than two weeks and it is going to be awesome.

                  Re: The grasp of MMORPGs.

Yeah, I haven't played for around 7 months and came back the other day. I doubt I will stay that long, but I wouldn't mind checking out the expansion.

I also recently obtained a heap of PS2 games. Mainly RPG's...

                  Dirge of Cerberus
                  Grandia III
                  ICO
                  Persona 3
                  Psychonauts
                  Radiata Stories
                  Tales of the Abyss
                  Xenosaga 1, 2, 3
                  Tekken 5
                  Street Fighter EX3
                  Tony Hawks Project 8
                  Shadow of the Colossus
                  Odin Sphere
                  Ratchet and Clank
                  Kingdom Hearts 1, 2
                  Suikoden V
                  Digital Devil Saga 1, 2

Anyway, check some of them out. They are all fairly awesome games, imo.

What's Grandia 3 like? I loved one and two but haven't played three yet. I've been meaning to pick it up at Gamefly since I'm sure they stopped producing copies of it.

Honestly, I thought it was awful. It started off so well and had all the charm of the other two Grandia titles. Then all of a sudden, the characters and plot take a tremendous nosedive less than halfway through. It's a never-ending downward spiral from that point on.

The gameplay's decent, and GameArts was making a big deal out of the air combos, but you quickly come to the conclusion that it's a really annoying gimmick after a few hours, as the difficulty continues to spike and it seems to be centered around the idea that you're going to be doing air combos all the time. I could go on and on about how disappointed I was with Grandia III, but it couldn't hurt to rent it since you have Gamefly and find out if you like it anyways. Like I said, the early bits are great, but later on is an entirely different story.

I've only played the first bits, so I can't really comment on what jwalton has said. So far it's pretty good.
