Smash Bros. Brawl Confirmed Online, Nerds Explode

Today's SMASH BROS. DOJO update consists of a nice treat for Smash devotees: Online WiFi play has been confirmed. Brawl will allow players to play online with friends registered with Wii Codes, or online against anonymous worldwide opponents.

I've never really been a Nintendo fan, but SSB has always been an awesome game. This could be the game that forces me to purchase a Wii if my friends feel the same way. We'll see...

Online play is the only way I'd be able to enjoy a game like this, since I don't know anyone locally who plays.

Nintendo is still confused by Online.

Took me forever to get me, my brother and my cousin registered on the three MegaMan games.

And I'm a damn CCNA and a Junior in the Network Engineering program at college.

WTH Nintendo. Are you telling me I need to CALL my friend to get his Nintendo Code (Wii and/or DS) or write an email or something, and we both have to be online at the same time?

That said, Pokemon DS really worked well online, and Megaman is pretty fun actually. Once you get over the ridiculous "Addressing" scheme, Nintendo's own flavor of online is OK.

Brawl is going to be good fun. Let me not be a baseless hater against all things Nintendo for at least the end of the year. I do own a DS and enjoy it immensely..

Nintendo seems to want players to form their own networks, sort of a "speakeasy" kinda thing where only people you know get in if you want them to. As frustrating as that is, I somewhat agree with it after dealing with too many children in PS2 and Xbox Live.

My enjoyment of Metal Gear Online's first iteration on PS2 plummetted steeply as soon as the kiddies started segregating it into VC users only (i.e. mouthbreathers only) and keyboard users ritually getting kicked from games. Hell, people on Live kick you from games for winning.

I would go around and destroy all comers in games like Soldier of Fortune II with just the throwing knives and get kicked for that.

Nintendo is aware of Gabriel's Greater Internet Fuckwad Theory, at least that's how I see it.

No communication can be good at times, in instances you mentioned (nice reference to "shitcock"). However, the Calling All Cars!-esque smack-talk between buddies makes many multiplayer games more enjoyable, especially Smash Bros. and MarioKart. With voice chat available in a few DS online games, it's surprising Nintendo hasn't released a microphone for Wii.
