I think I may already know the answer, but are PSPs region specific when it comes to movies and games? Will this console's software be in Japanese, and only accept Japanese games?

I'm crazy for actually considering purchasing this, but I'm considering it nonetheless.

UMD games are not region encoded. UMD movies are, but those are pretty useless.

Well, import shops probably have their units secured but they are probably very low in quantity available for those not purchasing one in a Japanese retail store tomorrow.

I'd say just be ready to purchase as soon as they're available, because this is far and away the PSP's biggest release so far.

I'd have grabbed one if I hadn't been lazy and sold my first PSP by now.

I'm still hoping for a special edition Gran Turismo or God of War PSP Slim next year, so I can hold off 'till then.

The game launched today to great fanfare (pun intended) and massive lines.

Famitsu reported on the launch of the special edition PSP Slim (which is available before the standard issue model launches next week), Crisis Core: FINAL FANTASY VII and the new FINAL FANTASY VII 10th ANNIVERSARY Potion.















Stay tuned for a US release some time in 2092.

Holy cow, it looks like the line for a wii here in the states.
Never really messed with a psp, does the basic firmware interface have the ability to change languages? Like change it to english?
And oh yeah, we're never getting those.....ever.

UMD movies are worthless, yes, but are Japan and the U.S. different regions? I remember hearing that U.S. and Japan are the same region for BD.

I remembered both PS2 and 3 did the same thing with languages, thought it should be the same with psp.

So X and O do the opposite of what they do in the NA versions? Is that why ff7 on PS1 did that too? Going back and playing that still screws me up until I go and manually change it.

Did they ever improve the battery life on this new model or is it actually still worse than the original PSP? I don't think I have it in me to spend money on a downgrade.

some jp psp games have an english mode too. not all, just some. I have a jp ff2 from that i picked up when i was in taiwan and it has english mode. ff:tactics on psp doesnt though -_-
