  • The Last Weeks of August = Awesome for All Gamers

Screw console wars. This month sees a killer title for each console platform.

Bioshock on 360 on August 21st, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on Wii on August 27th, and Warhawk on PS3 on August 28th.

Awesomeness across the board. Discuss. What're you grabbing this month?

Bioshock might tempt me to pick up my new 360 finally, but I would really love to hold out until there's confirmation of Falcon chipsets in retail consoles. We'll see what happens. I can't wait for this game and I don't think I can hold out until the eventual PS3 version some time next year. I highly doubt my laptop will run it very well.

Warhawk's a must-download and a great value in addition, and naturally as a Metroid fan I will be grabbing Corruption, my first must-have Wii title which I've been desperate for since launch.

Been a Metriod fan since the very first one, and I cant wait for this one......

Funny how they where able to keep the "platformer" feel while making it first person view.

After the first Metroid Prime, the sequel reeked of mediocrity, but Corruption looks to improve on everything that made the first one great.

Only thing mediocre about Echoes was the multiplayer, which was a forced into the project due to fucktards on the internet demanding it without any prior reference to the series before Prime. Thankfully Nintendo dropped that nonsense and let Retro just make a single player experience again.

Metroid Prime Hunters is a game I can safely rate below Metroid Fusion as the worst entry of the series. Too much Unreal, not enough Metroid. The boss fights were hideous, too. MPH proved FPS could be done well on DS, but that's about all it could prove. As a Metroid game, it failed on every level.

I wouldn't mind a true Metroid Prime game in DS, just without the multiplayer nonsense, its not what the series is about.

I'm more or less in the same boat as your Paipai.

Bioshock looks awesome, but I already have Metroid Prime 3 pre-ordered and I'm going to wait a little on Warhawk. There's so many good games out now, or coming soon at least.

Final Fantasy 1 &2 (PSP) - Already Out
            Halo 3 (360) (Pre-ordered ^^) - Sept. 25
Wings of the Goddess (PC for me) - Early December I'd wager
Final Fantasy Tactics: War of the Lions (PSP) - Oct. 9
Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) - November
Super Smash Bros. Brawl (Wii) - December 19 (I think it's the 19th)
            LAIR (PS3) - Already Out
            Heavenly Sword (PS3) - Sept. 12
            Mass Effect (360)
            Eternal Sonata (360)
Dracula X Chronicles (PSP) - December
            Silent Hill Origins (PSP)
            Metal Gear Solid 4 (PS3) - March 2008

and the list goes on @. @

It's like an orgy of good games... dear god finally. Normally I rent most titles (since I blow through games easily in a day or so) but finally, a list of titles I actually want to buy. Goodbye bank account >. <

EDIT: About Prime 2: Game Trailers summed it up quite well in the retrospective. Prime 2 failed because of the high difficulty and often annoying interactions between the light and dark realms. While it certainly was cool, the game kinda dragged on for entirely too long.

I agree, Prime 2 was medocre. Game started out great, and then just got annoying. Switching from the Light to Dark worlds was fun at first, and then just became a chore. I couldn't put down the first Prime, I wanted to go back to areas and try out my new abilities. In Prime 2, you had to follow such a narrow path to get certain places it just became a hassle. I enjoyed it, but not nearly as much as the first one. I'm excited about the 3rd one. It's the reason I'm buying a Wii.

This is a great list! FFT: War of the Lions will likely get me fired (Playing it while talking to customers on the phone.) New Mario game, MGS4, LAIR, Heavenly Sword, the list goes on. It's coming up on a pretty damn good time to be a gamer.

Re: The Last Weeks of August = Awesome for All Gamers

Don't forget Fire Emblem: Goddess of the Dawn in November. I was actually suprised it would hit the US that soon. Even more surprised its almost a direct sequel to Path of Radiance, something the Fire Emblem series doesn't usually deal in.

I'm kinda iffy about FFT: The Lion War for PSP. Reports say it has some major slowdown and only two new job classes were added - Dark Knight and Onion Knight. Dark Knight actually was in the original ten years ago, it just wasn't a playable character. They could have stood to add a few of the remaining untapped classes, like Gambler.

Balthier and some character from FFTA2 are also supposed to have appearances in the game, deepening the story. Thing is, the FFTA games and FFXII have Viera, Nou Mou, Bangaa and Moogle as races. FFT just has, well, hume and they don't seem to be merging it into the full universe that well.

But then, Vagrant Story didn't have these races and it took place in Invalice, too. Maybe places like Rozaria are predominantly Hume.

Echoes wasn't hard, it was just pretty discouraging that Retro took the lazy dark/light world route. It wasn't nearly as inspired as the original...that game truly made great usage of the Metroid universe. Everything I've seen of Corruption so far looks like they're trying to make the best one yet, a feat made difficult by the perfection that was the original Metroid Prime.

To answer your question about the hardware, the Premium 360s in stores with HDMI have the Zephyr motherboard revision that's used in the Elite with the added heatsinks. The Falcon chipset isn't going to show until around November.

Also, Bioshock = Holy Shit. Best water effects I've seen in a game to date, short of Crysis on PC that is. The atmosphere is unbelievable. I don't even like first person shooters and I'm seriously considering picking it up anyways after messing with the demo.

Yeah, I just read about those new Premium 360s using Zephyr, bit of a bummer. It sucks because I need all the willpower I can to wait for those new Falcon chipsets to buy my new 360...but Bioshock isn't helping.

I have to agree this is going to be a great month for games. From what i have read you can also download the first Metroid on the Wii. But i haven't seen if it's true or not. Come to think about it. In the next few months were gonna get a huge supply of games.

As for myself I can not wait for Halo3, Assassin's Creed and Medal Of Honor.

Nin75, Bst75. Drk61, War61, Rdm40, All other jobs are 37. All 3 starting city missions completed. All Zilart missions completed. All CoP missions completed. TouA completed.

Re: The Last Weeks of August = Awesome for All Gamers

I recently beat SM on my emulator. 3:58 was my time all in 1 sitting @. @

screw the people who can get 100% item rate and finish in under 3 hours (have to do it under 3 to see Samus in her bathing suit)

Prime 2 was pretty hard IMO, in contrast to the 1st game especially some of the bosses. I almost went apeshit over the spider ball boss, and I rarely get pissed at a game ('cuz I'm hax)

Didn't know the new fire emblem was out so soon, woot! I'm still playing the GBA one with Eirika and Ephraim (Sacred Stones or something like that?).

FFT for PSP will be awesome. My only gripes are lack of new jobs (only 2? weak) and the multiplayer isn't online. Very lame SE, very very lame.

Also I believe FF7: Crisis Core for PSP is due out soon as well! ^^

There's also heroes of mana (why can't SE make a decent Seiken Densetsu anymore? ; ; please put 2 and 3 on the virtual console ><)

                            and what else... oh yeah.

GTA IV in 2nd quarter of 2008 (okay so it's not too soon but hot damn) and the new Burnout game...

@. @ WTF 4th quarter '07 and 2008 are looking to be bitching times. FF4 for the DS should be out in Japan by December, not sure about north America or Europe.

Re: The Last Weeks of August = Awesome for All Gamers

I can honestly say this is the best fall/winter lineup of games on every platform I've seen in many, many years.

PS3 exclusive games arriving in force, with Lair, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk, Ratchet and Clank, and SingStar.

Wii exclusive games arriving in force, with the trifecta of Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3 : Corruption, and Super Smash Brothers Brawl.

Xbox 360 games arriving in force, with Halo 3, Bioshock, and Mass Effect.

Multiplatform titles kicking everyone to the curb, including Assassin's Creed and Unreal Tournament 3.

It's a great, great time to be a gamer.

As far as the August releases, I have Metroid Prime 3 preordered and paid for. Still on the bubble with Warhawk.

Regarding the Xbox 360, I'm not buying one until the 65nm chips are confirmed to be in production; and the following commentary by a supposed Microsoft insider suggests that they're not here, and may not be coming soon either... (read the posts from MRCUR)

                              http://forums.xbox.com/56/14636616/S....aspx#14629524

NOTE: Take the above as rumor until it's confirmed, but I'm not seeing the sort of flood of attacks and counter-responses that you would normally expect if the claims were false.

As such, I'm still wait-and-see on a 360, and won't be picking up those titles this winter.
