  • The new trend: Sueing SONY

Seriously wtf is up with these California-based companies and SONY?

    http://ps3.joystiq.com/2007/07/31/ma...wsuit-demands/

California-based Parallel Processing Corporation has filed suit against Sony, alleging that the Cell microprocessor infringes upon a 1991 patent licensed by Parallel Processing Corp for "synchronized parallel processing with shared memory." The lawsuit cites "irreparable harm and monetary damage" and seeks a pile o' cash, attorney's fees, and um ... immediate impounding and destruction of all Sony products that utilize Cell technology, or simply, PlayStation 3.

If anyone, it's IBM they should be after. This is pretty baseless anyway.

    I love that picture though

Posted by Psaakyrn on page 2:

Solution: countersue for defamation, and get this originating case throwing out of court since the Cell doesn't belong to Sony. Once they're bankrupt, IBM can buy them for a negligible amount of cash, settling the deal. The end.

Sony deserves all the legal bullshit lawyers can possibly do to them after what they did to Lik-sang.

        Quoted. For. Truth.

Sony just can't develop anything by themselves can they?

MCV's prediction that Sony may be soon unveiling support for terrestrial digital broadcast service Freeview for the PLAYSTATION 3 is looking spot on following comments from Sony Computer Entertainment New Zealand boss Warwick Light. He told Kiwi outlet The Press that the company is "hoping next year... to release a digital tuner for the PS3, turning it into a programmable TV recorder."

Meh Lik-sang was always in legal troubles.

Didn't MS, Nintendo and Sony sue them years before they (Lik-sang) pulled the stunt of keep re-selling PSPs to the UK even after Sony told them not to?

A company has to protect their official distributors and Lik-sang seemed to be selling way too many units illegally to let it pass. Unless I remember things wrong.

The lawsuit won't really stand. The demands are too high and the proof is too low. They won't even release information about exactly which patent is being violated.

Not yet at least. We'll call it a tie.

Anyways, I'm going to bet that you have to pay for this 360 DVR. But the PS3 service is called Freeview. Now, if you ask me, that sounds like this DVR will be free.

In all fairness, Sony announced their DVR and turner plans for the PS3 long before Microsoft announced their IPTV service for the 360. Props to Microsoft though, for getting their IPTV service out the door sooner...if it does come this fall as originally planned.

This is Sony ... since when was "free" in their vocabulary?

I just shelled out $100 for something that SHOULD'VE BEEN INCLUDED in my brand new hard drive camcorder ... like I said, this is Sony we're taking and putting the word "free" next to them is like trying to associate Mother Theresa with Adolf Hitler.

erm why are companies sueing, well they are all greedy and making tiny claims as they want some of the money sony is making from the console. Next they'll be a lawsuite for the shine of the plastic, the colour of the led. Yeah sounds sureal, though there is alot of sureal court cases being filled against companies "doing well" Its greedy people trying to make money by the most absurd ways again.

I believe you can record already through Windows Media Center. I'll have to double check when I get home.

Edit* You can select which TV shows to record/watch through the 360, but the actual recording is done on the Windows Media Center server you are connected to.

Yar, I think I linked the wrong article.

Also, if you have Vista, you can do it that way also, but the DVR service I'm talking about will be a small little addon you have to buy (about 20$).
