Katamari Canned for PS3? No Worries!

Sure, it wasn't awesome news for PS3 owners. It makes me glad I still have plans to buy a new 360 somewhere down the line.

Beautiful Katamari was cancelled for the PLAYSTATION 3 for unknown reasons, but it was obviously because Namco Bandai decided that they would be spending the funds and manpower better elsewhere at this point and focusing on a 360-exclusive title. Katamari has never shown up on the Xbox so there are probably quite a few potential buyers looking forward to experiencing its greatness.

However, Namco Bandai, and particularly Katamari-creator Keita Takahashi seem to be making up for it already, as they unveiled a brand new title called Nobi Nobi Boy for PLAYSTATION 3.

"Nobi" means to stretch, so from that and the artwork revealed, we can probably guess what the basic premise of the game is.

Nippon Ichi's DISGAEA 3 Coming to PLAYSTATION 3

Not much to it, other than NIS has announced Disgaea 3 for PS3, coming this Winter. According to them, these screens are "work in progress," although I don't expect to see much improvement on the sprites, I'd at least hope for some higher resolutions.

    LocoRoco Finally Coming to PS3

It was one of SCEJ's worst-kept secrets after GDC, but Loco Roco has finally been announced by Sony in Japan today. The game is titled Buu Buu Cocoreccho! by LocoRoco and is currently 95% complete according to the development team. Expect it to show up on the Japanese PlayStation Store very soon.

    New White Knight Story Screenshots

No exact details about Level 5's Shirokishi (White Knight Story) have made it out of Japan alive yet, but at least we get some new screenshots. As we can see, it's apparent that we might be able to customize the design of our main character...or something.

    New Tekken 6 Screenshots

-Rumour: Tekken 6 may be scheduled for a November release in Japan.

    Other PlayStation Premier Details:

-Dynasty Warriors 6 coming to PS3 this fall.
-Gran Turismo 5: Prologue coming to PSN in October, price currently TBA.
-Limited edition Final Fantasy VII PSP coming to Japan on September 20th, supply limited to 77,777 units (lol).
-New project Valkyrie of the Battlefield coming from SEGA's Sakura Tenshi team.
-Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops expansion coming to Japan in September, focused on reworking the online play and adding new characters, including Old Snake. Also includes a new storyline mode called Infinity Mission.
-MGS4: Guns of the Patriots gameplay was shown by Hideo Kojima.
-New FFXIII and FF Versus XIII footage was shown. Will be shown to the public at TGS in September, in addition to gameplay footage by the end of the year.

    Yay ^^

Portable Ops was great. I wasn't too keen on the comic book cinematics, but at
least they were well done with a wonderful story over all.

Even if MGS4 is the last metal gear game he should still do a movie. It would put
*so* many good movies to shame...

I really don't get Nippon Ichi's loyalty to Sony platforms, they could make sooooo much more money going multi and there's really no good reason not to. I'm sorry, but any system could run thier games at high-res.

This is the part where we start talking about what actor would be best suited to play Snake.

        Keifer Sutherland?

PS > Hmm... maybe Chuck Norris for old Snake?

There's a fan movie actually in production, I can't find the link (talking about Metal Gear Solid), and there's a 5 min trailer out for it right now, and I have to say, for a indi film, it's pretty damn good, I liked it so far.

          Edit: Found it, MGS: P

Hum, but yea, White Knight Story, depending on when it comes out, and the price of the PS3 at the time, that just might be the system seller for me.

There is a Metal Gear Solid movie in production. David Hayter has confirmed that he has no part in it. He wrote a script for the film but it was turned down, as he says he was going for something a little different than what Kojima wanted to do with the film.

Of course, 'a little different' from what Kojima wants to do means something completely normal and not ache-inducing.

Re: PlayStation Premiere Event in Japan -- Neato News :3

                  A couple more details...

SEGA's Battle Field Valkyrie apparently uses a rendering technique which makes the game look like a 3D watercolour painting. The game is a mix of action, RPG and strategy elements. The game is being directed by the creator of the Yakuza series, which has found success in Japan. Toshihiro Nagoshi is also working on another title, which he claims will exceed everything he did for Yakuza, Sakura Wars and any other game he's made so far, also for PS3.

Shirokishi was played live before the audience, and Level 5 showed off that indeed, players will be able to design the look of their main character, which is quite rare for a Japanese-style RPG. Level 5 stated that the game will be playable by the public at TGS in September.

Square Enix claims that FINAL FANTASY XIII is 13% complete, and FINAL FANTASY Versus XIII is 1.3% complete. Har har, SE. Very funny. You'd better tell us the real percentages at TGS, 'cuz we see what you're doing here.

Here are a couple of screens from the trailers shown at PlayStation Premiere, which are based on the original trailers but show a lot of new footage. We'll see more at TGS.

Also, Gran Turismo 5 Prologue currently features 15 players online. Enjoy some sexy GIFs.

All in all, it would appear this event was created to reassure Japanese PlayStation fans that there are actually Japanese games coming out for the system. I'd understand if they didn't know that so far.

Crisis Core: FINAL FANTASY VII comes to the PSP in Japan on September 13th. The special edition PSP is a FINAL FANTASY VII 10th Anniversary Edition. Also neat is the fact that it is indeed the Slim PSP model, and it goes on sale a full week before the normal models hit stores.

Crisis Core looks to be the only great Compilation of FINAL FANTASY VII project since Advent Children itself. Which, by the way, comes to Blu-ray Disc soon.

Some clarification on Tekken 6: The arcade version is out this November. Namco-Bandai assures fans that development of the home version on PLAYSTATION 3 will take less than a year, and will feature online play. Hopefully Namco will employ the use of updates for the PS3 version, so they don't have to rerelease the game every time there's an arcade update.

Another pretty interesting update from IGN:

Apparently during Kojima's live play of MGS4, he let it be known that Metal Gear Online will continue on the PS3. He did not, however, state if the latest incarnation of MGO, which originated in Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence for PS2, would be a standalone release or included as the multiplayer portion of Guns of the Patriots. Since he's already said that MGS4 will be the last MGS game he works on, my guess is the latter.

                              More at TGS, obviously.
