It's really not as black and white as that. Look at Metal Gear Solid 4. You think Kojima gives a damn about the user base? No. He just wants to put out the best damn game he possibly he can, and so he went to the system with the most power. While money may be the primary concern for the companies, the developers don't always care about it (not soley anyway)

Also, this in conjunction with other good titles like Heavenly Sword, should help to boost the user base considerably. This will in turn (hopefully) cause a chain-reaction encouraging other developers to make good titles for PS3 thus attracting more and more people.

It won't be enough to sway those who gag at the price tag of the machine, but it'll certainly help a lot.

Believe it or not there are a few developers out there (You will be missed Kojima ) who are in it to prove a point or show what they can do.

      OK, you're right.

Some developers still care about making good games, the O-Zone layer is fine, and social security is never going to run out. All is right in the world, thanks to the power of positive thinking.

Aeni,. Blu-ray Disc is not Sony technology. Sony did not invent Blu-ray Disc and they are not the company behind its marketing. They're merely one of its biggest supporters. Sony was losing over $250 per console when they launched the PS3. Seeing as how they posted around $1.9 billion in losses, I highly doubt they were aiming to rip people off. The value in the PS3 is far beyond $600 for what you get, and no one is pointing a gun to anyone's head forcing them to buy it for that much. That's why most people wait for price drops, so they can buy the console when its price reflects their perceived value of the product.

And Feba, I think you're being a little overly pessimistic. There are a lot of developers out there who really care about making the best game they can.

That's what I'm saying. So as long as the PS3 has a healthy player base we'll keep seeing games being developed for the console.

Some people enjoy the PS3, some people enjoy the 360. But one having a bigger playerbase doesn't make it better than the other.

And there are a lot of Japanese developers who actually believe in making good games as much as they care for them selling well, which is one of the reasons I'd choose a Japanese developer over one from this side of the world anyday.

It's Ozone, Feba. No dash. "O-Zone" was the Romanian band which wrote "Dragostea Din Tea," better known as the "Numa Numa Song," if I recall correctly.

Back on topic, you can't really ignore the versatility of the Wii. Red Mage being my favorite Final Fantasy class of all time, I hold being versatile in high regard.

Wow, that's a pretty ignorant thing to say. You think Bioware, Bungie, Naughty Dog, Blizzard, and numerous other US developers don't believe in making good games? You think Japan doesn't have its own gigantic list of shitty games made by developers trying to make a quick buck?

As do I. And Pai Pai is absolutely right btw. The PS3 could easily cost $1000 USD. But no one would buy it for that kind of money. I don't think it's as much a matter of being worth the money (because it is) so much as the high cost compared to other gaming platforms.

Seriously, Wii does not have a whole of good games for it IMO. Zelda is the only game on the system right now that feels more like a work of art than some gimmicky mini-game. It's really not as innovative as people say it is (not with what we've seen so far anyway) and it's flying off the shelves for 3 reasons:

                1) It's Nintendo. Doubt not the power of brand names.
                2) The Price. Since it's so easily affordable it makes a great gift for the kids.
                3) Most of the games are very basic and easy to pick up for some light fun.

To be perfectly honest I felt completely ripped off after I beat TP in a week. The virtual console is still missing god knows how many titles too. At least some of the really good stuff is finally on it's way (they pushed Prime 3 back another week the bastards. It's aug 27 now)

Nintendo's got some good stuff on the horizon though so I don't see them losing their position just yet; however that could change by next year if they don't stop putting out gimmick after gimmick title.

Also I'd like to point out that while the system itself is cheap, Nintendo has always been notorious for gouging people with add-ons. No one seems to take into account that for each player beyond the 1st you're spending $90.00 per controller (Wii Mote + Nunchuck + Classic Controller comes to around $90 Canadian and that's before tax) and they've got the mat, zapper and steeringwheel coming out.

At least Sony gives you everything you need in 1 package (I'm looking at you XB360 HD-DVD player >_>) save for the HDMI cable (Seriously wtf. The whole point of PS3 is to game in HD, and they don't even include the cable. Piss off Sony)

Bungie and Blizzad sure (at least that was the case for most of their games, barring WoW and WC3) but I'm not so sure about Bioware. KotR 1 and 2 were somewhat lackluster in retrospect. Mass Effect however, dear god I have to bow to them for that gem. It's looking pretty sweet.

And Naughty Dog hasn't made anything good in years. Crash Bandicoot can suck my balls.

Knights of the Old Republic was anything but lackluster. Knights of the Old Republic 2 was made by Obsidian Entertainment, not Bioware. Naughty Dog is currently working on Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which looks freaking amazing. I also can't believe you mentioned Crash Bandicoot. Naughty Dog has had nothing to do with Crash Bandicoot since 1999, before the PlayStation 2 was even out. Didn't you play Jak & Daxter? You can't tell me that wasn't a solid game with quality written all over it.

"The best is yet to come" works, as well.

There's just so much potential with that piece of hardware, I'm confident we haven't seen as much as one part of 100 of all it can do just yet.

Like I said, the Wii hasn't done much to really impress me yet aside from Zelda, but I'm not dismissing it. I'm just hoping the fall releases are going to be as killer as they seem ^_ ^ (I have Metroid and Smash Bros pre-ordered)

And sadly I didn't get to try Jak and Daxter. I've heard it was a really epic story, and I think I saw all 3 used for around $15.00 each the other day. I just haven't had much incentive to pick them up.

                          o. O and I wasn't aware that Naughty Dog had dropped Crash so long ago. Good move on their part I say.

The problem with KotR is it just wasn't as involved as it could have been. What I mean is, your actions didn't really influence your party as it could have (though it was different in KotR 2 it was still kind of lacking) and I especially hated the combat system. B-O-R-I-N-G. It was a nice story, but other than that I didn't care too much for it other than being evil.

Oh man the fun I had blackmailing various NPCs. Like this poor mother on Tatooine... She asked me to find some commemorative plates or something of her husband, which I brought back and sold to her for some ludicrous amount of money... and then I killed her after the shock set it. Ah, sadistic fun...

It was the few moments like that where I really enjoyed the game. Otherwise, fmeh. I'm just not a big fan of Bioware.

I haven't even seen Drake's Fortune yet, I'll have to take a look at that. My only gripe with Blizzard is battle.net. They really need to add some kind of Moderator feature to the games that use it to boot out assholes -.-

When I think of all the public Diablo 2 games I've had ruined because of some random jack off PK...

That's starting to change actually. In fact, a Sony rep said that they expected to be in the black for the PS3 within a year or so. But the loss they take isn't as bad as it was in the past. In fact, with Blu-ray picking up the pace, with a massive install base, they'll make plenty of money. Especially since Sony has published so many of them, they're making plenty of direct profit. as well as 15 Sony-developed heavy hitters, half of which were big-hitters at E3 (the other half weren't present), the gaming division will be making plenty of money. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if they did indeed go into the black.

I haven't even seen Drake's Fortune yet, I'll have to take a look at that.
You should. That game got rave reviews at the E3 demo.

You were impressed with Zelda? It was a gamecube port nothing more. I actually thought it was a fun game, when played with a GameCube controller. I thought the wii controls were just gimicky. With Super Strikers Charged coming out on Tuesday, I expect to actually have some fun with my wii, minus Madden 07.
