Then they rush to Allakhazam to get the latest guide on how to beat Obscure Quest X and what CHR does or doesn't do for Paladin.

Don't get me wrong... World of Warcraft wasn't my thing either. But you're not being objective here at all. World of Warcraft's mechanics are deeper than Final Fantasy XI's. Usually someone will rush in the game's defense and reference skillchains, but just about everyone plays TP burn parties these days so that's kind of moot anymore. Besides, skillchains are neat, but really not that big a deal. I mean, combining skills/spells for extra damage was done as far back as Phantasy Star IV on the Sega Genesis back in 1993. Granted, it's not an online game, but the concept isn't exactly "WOW" by any means. It was possible to combine photon blasts in Phantasy Star Online, but that didn't make it any less shallow of a game.
I guess "vague" could be correct. I like to figure things out sometimes, it makes games interesting.

Re: Ugh. Someone talk me out of it.

In World of Warcraft you are what you're wearing, and I believe that's because they do tell you every little thing about what you're wearing. I think FFXI is a little too specific as well. I'd like to see the equipment be descrbed as "Enhances Strength" or "Enhances Accuracy", rather than Attack+# or Accuracy+#. It'd really take a lot of heat off equipment debates and people in general. Who knows if it would actually work any better though.

and more simplified crafting system (however I haven't tried the FFXI crafting system yet, it seems more detailed from what I've researched).
I guess. If by "more detailed" you mean "unnecessarily frustrating, and devoid of logic," then sure. I don't personally regard FFXI or WoW's Crafting models as any sort of ideal.

FFXI is for people who have more time to do things and thus I believe you get more of a feeling of accomplishment.
That's entirely subjective. Just because you didn't like WoW, and you like FFXI right now, doesn't really mean anything except that you didn't like WoW and you like FFXI right now.

There's also less hatred between factions/races. In WoW, you have morons running around saying "lol HORD IS TEH WINZ" or "Horde sucks ass Alliance is way better!". And from when I PvP'd a little on there, people get too into it really. They're acting like it's before Black Rights in America, and they're killing each other with actual hatred. Really weird. There also seems to be more WoW 'nerds', and 'nerds', in the definition of 'completely obsessed and obnoxious with the game' are NOT a good thing to have in a game really.
There is less hatred between factions because there aren't any factions in FFXI. The faction system is at the core of WoW's mythos though, so yeah, kind of prominent.

Sorry, but from playing, I personally believe it's more statistical than WoW.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

Well, on the perspective of "If you had to choose one". Yeah, you can like both.

You have to admit that you need to devote more time to FFXI than WoW a day. I don't know about some people, but me + more time on something = better feeling of accomplishment.

There is less hatred between factions because there aren't any factions in FFXI.
Which is my point. No factions = less hatred, which usually builds a better community.

I see a lot more numbers in FFXI. Theres a lot of stats involved to build an ideal character in FFXI. WoW relies on stats of course, but I feel that it's a lot more exploited, I guess, in FFXI.

Heh, sadly... I'd say it'd probably make things worse as far as the fighting goes. Even if it did resolve such debates, people would just focus on another subject to yell at each other about.

But you don't have to choose one. No one does. Especially not in the context of this thread, because WoW has a free trial.

I don't have to admit anything. More time on something doesn't necessarily increase my sense of accomplishment. And I spent a heck of a lot more time per day playing WoW than I do playing FFXI, but that's me.

Which is my point. No factions = less hatred, which usually builds a better community.
You can't hear what the other side has to say in WoW anyway. So what are you talking about exactly?

And there is plenty of stupidity and mean spirited people in this game as well. I'm just saying.

Of course, your experience in FFXI amounts to about a week, so you really don't know, and are basing this feeling on what you'd like to be the case as opposed to what is really going on.

I'm basing this feeling from what I've experienced personally. Don't shove words into my mouth. I'm done debating on this because you're basically saying I don't know jack shit because I'm a new player. I read up on the game, and I play the game. I'm even comparing both of my beginning experiences from the games. I'm enjoying my beginning experience on FFXI more than I enjoyed it on WoW.

EDIT: I even enjoyed Knight Online more than I enjoyed WoW.

                  Inconceivable!

The sad thing is, most of the FFXI-playing vocal haters of WoW sucked so badly they never made it to max level and ended up experiencing the sheer crushing demand on your time that is endgame in WoW. The tactics to beat the bosses in one zone in WoW shame the strategies required for every single HNM in FFXI. Now, I myself grew tired of the timesink of reputation grinding, material farming, and endgame raiding in WoW so I'm by no means attempting to champion the game. I just find it highly ironic when people claim the game is weaksauce and then go on to mention they failed to make it to max level and yet somehow feel their uneducated blanket statements are going to be met with anything short of derision.

Do you have an actual source for that? That's kind of a big assumption that most people who play FFXI that don't like WoW suck.

Yeah, the last few years reading moronic posts on FFXI boards, this being one of them. The board and some of the posts that is.

I agree pretty much entirely. I'm hardly trying to champion WoW's cause, but I can't sit idly by while people malign it for stupid reasons. If you're going to say something bad about an MMO, at least base it in fact.

All strategies in WoW require a disproportionate amount of luck over skill.

Most of my friends that left for WoW and came back did so because they got bored. In their words more or less- it lied to you. It gave you a super easy casual trip to level cap, and then a lifesucking grind for endgame EQ

That pretty much sums it up. You can casually level to 70 at your own pace but once you have that final ding the only way to advance is through gear and then the game you knew ends and you come to realise the true grind is about to start.

Your kidding right? This game has more hatred for another shell then Wow does with its factions.

I never came across that problem because i was too cheap to buy the expansion. I just took my time playing, not really trying to rush for any type of endgame items, or situations. I did that in FFXI for a long time. My goal was to quit when i hit 60.
