Re: The Catalogue of Lost PS3 Exclusives

Ohhh, totally forgot about XI for 360. Although I've never considered XI to be part of the series, personally. I know it has the title, but it's just not similar, although that may just be my opinion. If you consider it part of the series then that would make sense I guess.

Although...my comment was mainly supposed to be a joke. A friend and I joke about dishonouring your family often, but no one seemed to take it that way.

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

Re: The Catalogue of Lost PS3 Exclusives

People who say exclusives aren't important. Look at the system you own right now, I'm better a big reason you have an Xbox 360 isn't for Madden 2008, its for Halo 3, PGR3, Mechassault or (if you're here) possibly because you can play FFXI on it.

If you have a Wii, you have it for Nintendo's games, I'm happy when third party titles come, but I buy Nintendo systems for Nintendo's game.

Now when I get to PS2/3, its pretty much the third party exclsives that move a Sony console, to deny otherwise is to give Sony first party titles too much credit. You're there for GTA, MGS, DMC and FF, amoung others. If another system gets those game, what does a Sony system have to offer over Wii or 360?

      Not much.

GTA was a given due to its high popularity. I garuntee you it will move more 360s than PS3s this fall. MGS4 isn't a system seller, I'm sorry, its just not. GTA3 stole MGS2's thunder big time with its all its sales and only word of mouth to support it at the time. No one's eyes are on Metal Gear as a system seller unless you're a big MGS fan.

But are you a $600 dollar MGS fan? $500?

      I don't think I'm a $400 MGS fan. I can wait.

For me, it all depends on where the RPGs go. I think many of them can easily go to PSP and DS over current consoles and I think Wii will see a considerable amount of genere attention thanks to is lower development costs. Notice SE hasn't mentioned another PS3 exclusive beyond FFXIII, and technically, its not really totally exclusive as there will be other FFXIII games elsewhere. I think that's very telling.

Where will the other RPG devs go if SE doens't put big support behind PS3? They'll go where SE went, that's where. DQIX is a big sign of where things are going for RPGs.

Dark Cloud sucked, Dark Cloud 2 was alright, and Rogue Galaxy was mediocre. Dragon Quest VIII doesn't count since Level 5 just provided the core game engine and graphics, the rest is still Squeenix's thing. They're very, very good with graphics, but that's it.

Given their track record, I think White Knight Story is going to be another round of unbalanced gameplay and generic storytelling with beautiful visuals. A turd with a thin candy shell if you would.

As far as PS3 goes, there are only two games I'm interested in... Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, and Final Fantasy XIII. Not enough to make me throw out $600, that's for certain.

Re: The Catalogue of Lost PS3 Exclusives

You're in luck for next week, then, since everyone on Earth is expecting Sony to deliver their much needed price drop.

And Malacite, you're mistaken about BD-capacity. Kojima has confirmed that he's using a 50GB Blu-ray medium for MGS4. It's not that 50GB isn't available to developers as yet, it's simply that they haven't needed that much so far. As far as games that aren't crammed in with extra features go, the highest capacity games otherwise have been in the vicinity of 16-22GB. Lair, with it's uncompressed 7.1 audio and full 1080p visuals, will probably be the most high-capacity PS3 game we see for a while, and it's likely that only first-party titles will contend for that until MGS4 comes around. So far, the high-capacity PS3 games haven't really done much different than games we see on PS2 and 360, so their size is most likely more credited to the leniency that the capacity allows for, since developers don't have to push themselves to compress the games enough to fit on the disc. As games become more advanced and more expansive, we'll probably begin to see more titles that actually use all that space for more useful reasons, such as uncompressed audio and FMV.

Third party titles are extremely important and Microsoft has shown that they're prepared to do what it takes to grab them away from competition, but do give Sony's first and second party studios a little more credit. They continue to pump out bestsellers like Gran Turismo, Ratchet and Clank and SingStar. March's best-selling game of the month may say enough to support my stance alone.

I thought FF started at as "Phantasy Star" on Nintindoe? I dont know but if it does go to 360 I will be mad...I have played one and to be honest the only good thing that 360s have are shooters (Halo 3 wich sucks and Gear Wars just to name a few.) Basides that the rest of there games are really nothing specail to me in my opinon and I also think the only reason 360 is doing such a great job right now is beause 1) Windows is doing really good right now 2) the ps3 still has alot of bugs to work out..so people are turned off buy it, that and the price tag...for the console and the games. But yeah I never played MGS (accept for the first one) Didnt really like it either lol. Now DMC I have played and I like those games, not really mad about it not being on the ps3 though.

I would've agreed with your entire post if we were talking about the last 2 console generations. But as weird as it may sound the PS3 is the first console I've bought for the console itself rather than specific must-play games; PS/PS2 backwards compatibility, Blu-ray, hardware capabilities, Sony brand etc. were the main reasons why I bought a PS3.

Granted, XIII and MGS4 are very good reasons to buy a PS3, but if both games had become 360 exclusives before I bought my PS3 I would've just skipped the games and buy a PS3 anyway.

And fortunately as long as the X360 doesn't replace the PS3 in Japan there's no reason for developers to stop making the games I've come to love since my PS days; which are 95% Japanese developers (FF, MGS, etc. ^^) and 5% First party (God of War, etc.).

Microsoft's done a fantastic job of pulling exclusives away from Sony and Nintendo in the last year. I think their greatest strength at E3 this year will be announcing a few more major exclusives from major developers, since they're definitely beginning to throw the cash around where it counts.
And yeah, Beautiful Katamari was on PSP, and it sucked. Hopefully Namco Bandai still knows how to make Katamari games with the director gone.

Re: The Catalogue of Lost PS3 Exclusives

Actually, Seiken Densetsu (one of my most beloved series ^_ ^) was almost SE's flagship title, but then it was shelved for a later date in favor of FF, and the rest as we all know is history.

I did say that some exclusives are good, mostly 1st party stuff and *maybe* a few third party games. Like I said, it depends on what the consoles can do with them and history I suppose. The reason PS2 is still one of the best systems out there (and why Sony "won" the last console war) was because of the multitude of exclusives they held.

Now that they're all going out the window (I personally want to skull **** Capcom for a LOT of reasons) they're in hot water. Sony unfortunately had no choice but to give up GTA IV. If I recall correctly, Rockstar was going to walk on them otherwise, since they were afraid they wouldn't sell enough copies.

And that's really too bad for Sony, because if anything would have gotten PS3's flying off the shelves, it would have been GTA IV.

I'm glad to hear MGS4 is going to use the full capacity of Blu Ray. I freaking love Kojima's works, the man is a genius. I'm not too keen on "Old Snake", but MGS is just a phenominal series. It's currently slated for a US release in November 2007 last I checked. Can't wait.

Lair and Warhawk are just bitching too. The title to watch out for this fall is Halo 3 without question. Even Wii is going to have a run for it's money once that game is out. I personally have mine pre-ordered and can't freaking wait to try out the new armor permutations.

EDIT: As a side note, Microsoft is probably the luckiest company out of the 3. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, had Halo not been released as an Xbox exclusive FPS as opposed to it's original RTS form planned for PS2, Xbox would have tanked as an utter failure. If one game was enough to kick start a (at the time) over expensive gaming console once, it can certainly happen again for PS3. More to the point, I wonder which will be harder to find come Sept 25; A Wii console or a copy of Halo 3 >_ >

Sony had a choice not to give up GTA IV, they just didn't bother trying to keep the exclusivity. Take Two actually approached Sony first about making GTA IV a PS3-exclusive.

Sony likes to deny developers free cash to sign exclusive deals, and that's all fine and dandy to raise in the air in the face of Microsoft doing so, but it certainly doesn't help their situation.

Re: The Catalogue of Lost PS3 Exclusives

I've always detested Xbox 'cause I just feel like Microsoft wants even more money, so they threw something together at first. Now they're an established console, but I still find it a rather disgusting one.
...And, what, Sony is doing it out of their love for gaming? Like Microsoft, Sony was a huge, established corporation before entering the console market as well. And, like Microsoft, their products haven't been exactly flawless.

I never bothered getting an XBox, but I love my 360. And though I admit I kinda want the PS3 to fail (don't know why, just because it'd be fun), I'd love to be able to play all the good games on my 360. Even if it means I lose a few pixels or the textures aren't as uber-crisp. It's not like I'll be getting my own HDTV any time soon, anyway. Unless the PS3 has games I can only play on the PS3-games like GTA, FF, and whatever the next big franchise will be-I'm never going to shell out $600. Blu-ray is nice, but I'm not going to have the funds to support an HD setup for a long time, so exclusives are the only way for Sony to get my attention.

About a month ago I was set on getting a 360, and I finally hung up and retired my Sony Fanboy Jersey.

Then the Halo 3 Beta ended. And I realized that I only like Halo for the story and presentaion, which I can get in books and on Wikipedia (I'm a geek like that..).

My friends are gonna get Halo 3 and play the shyt out of it, and I can just come over and single player by myself and enjoy the story all the same.

FFXI is the most experience I ever want with Social Interaction. I like online games, but people in general are retarded. Do a random Xanga search and pay attention as your soul leaves your body for the safer pastures of the 9th level of Hell.

I don't like the XB360 user interface. The Blades idea is ok, but In terms of functionality on the system and the ratio of what's available compared to how to access it.. in addition to the cumbersome nature of XBLive... I can't stay enthusiastic for the 360 anymore.

I like Sony's model (when they get around to it..) of user and developer created space and content that is organized and moderated by Sony. This generation, Sony is toying around with innovation from in-house and independent resources.

Littlebigworld(planet?) looks interesting, as is the Central Hub nature of HOME. Hell, even the XMB works well, even though that as it gets feasibly larger, it might be more difficult to scale..

Honestly, for me to invest in a system, I'll need at least 4-5 persistent games that'll grab my attention. FFXI is pretty addictive in it's own right.

This is the major problem with Sony's networking price structure. There's nothing comming out for the "common" man to justify a 600$ price venture (800 after tax and accessories). I'm sorrry, I have more important things to put money on (like, my car, house, and bills), then plunk that much down on a system. Much less, the only HDTV I have is about 3 years old now, and dosn't have HDMI, so that's not a feature for me yet (but, I will be upgrading to a nifty new 40" samsung from work that cought my eye here shortly).

I loved Dark Cloud, that's why I can't wait for White Knight, I thinkit looks amazing, and I'll love the gameplay just like I did with Dark Cloud, but it's still not enough to justify a price that they are trying to charge for the PS3. FFXIII isn't even enough to make me shell it all out. I'll wait 2-3 years till it drops dwown to about 300/400$ then maybe make the ps3 mine.
