  • Theories: The FF MMORPG you always wanted

I figured it would be fun to share ideas about what you think would make for a good FF MMORPG. I like the idea of an FFCC MMORPG very much. An FFT MMORPG would be cool as well. It's certainly got the makings of one, as FFCC does, as well.

What do you guys think would make a good FF MMORPG and why? Perhaps it's not based on an FF that's already been made. Perhaps you have a whole new idea. Feel free to share.

To be perfectly honest, FFXI is pretty damn good as it is. There are a few things I'd like to see though...

    - Interaction between the nations that affects gameplay (beyond who controls what region via conquest)

    - More cities (Still waiting for an underwater city and a floating city in the sky)

    - More jobs (there are a still a lot of classic and unique jobs we're missing)

    - Drop the skill rating system. It's because of the skill system that certain job combos like say SAM/BLM just won't work. It'd be great if we were more free to mix and match job combinations. It would help to add a whole new dimension of fun to the game I find. Either that or break all game balance @. @

    - Mass (and good) PVP. Something like an arena or colliseum (not the one we have in ToAU that's for monsters) where people could participate in mass LS vs LS or 18-man battle royales would be freaking awesome. I'm not sure about spectators betting on the event.

    - Merchant districts. Wouldn't it be awesome if there were designated stands that players could rent for so many hours/days to put their bazaar wares on display? Maybe these stations could offer additional items or discounts or just anything at all really to attract customers. Our current bazaar system is just fine, but I still think it'd be neat to be able to view what your browsing at a fully rendered store instead of just a list of items some person is carrying.

    - Specialty Shops on Airships/Merchant Planes. Why are there no high class ships yet that offer rare/valuable goods onboard an airship? Yeah, this would be a fairly pointless addition I suppose, but it'd be neat if nothing else.

I like FFXI too, but I didn't want to limit discussion to only FFXI, so it's more general.

I totally agree that there should be more towns. In fact, that's part of the reason I stopped playing, other than it consuming all my free time. It seemed like there was so little interaction that I became bored. But that may have something to do with the pace of the game in general, as well.

Jobs are definitely the key to creativity. Although I think the job system needs room for improvement.

And the dominance of a country over a particular region should be felt a lot more. It feels like it almost doesn't matter.

But who here would like to see an FFCC or FFT MMORPG?

        The nation thing I like.

A Floating city? Like Tu'lia? Next you going to ask for a sand city and forget about Quicksand Caves.

More jobs is a plus but really only for the Artifact.

I also quite enjoy the skill system. That was the main problem with jobs in FFV (which was great). I ended up giving monks max black magic and making any situation easy. Even worst was when I had mime's go xshot(barrage), black, and GP toss.

Just give FFCC online play, no need for a MMO since it wouldn't be similar to the game and not based off of the mythology. Oh and no FFT MMO. Without Matsuno to direct I don't want the place whored out anymore.

I always fantasized about an old-school FF online. Like getting to deisgn a 2D sprite character and going into the old "bird's eye view" type of towns, joining 4 person parties and gettting into random battles in the old battle formation.

The game could be gigantic and on a crapload of systems.

          Meh.

I would totally play that. Well, as long as it was free.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was already made. I mean things like that Pokemon MMO isn't even new.

Oh yeah. It would have to be free. Any system that could connect to the internet should be able to download it free.

Well I know someone's gonna say it... So it ought to be me...

A entire MMORPG based on Naruto.

Your "class" or "job" is based upon your clan. Unfortunately it's not like FFXI where you can easily change clans, etc.

But damn for some stupid reason it would be fun.

Or stupid. Either or. I just hope some Korean company doesn't pick it up like K2... it would really suck then...

That doesn't sound much like a FF MMORPG to me.

My idea: I always thought it would be cool if the Map function had a MS-Paintesque application where instead of the crappy markers, you could actually draw on your map, as well as the maps of others, to mark paths, camps, spawn points, etc.

I played a free Korean online MMO very much like that, can't remember for the life of me what it was called though.

I'd have liked the battles in FFXI to be less rigid. Somehow 6 vs 1 doesn't seem very FFish. Mobs in groups (but treated as one unit for gaining exp etc.) might have been more fun. Or maybe it would have been rubbish, dunno.

                          Tu'lia isn't even a city. And Al'tieu is long past it's prime.

What I meant was a city in the sky that you have to airship to and acts like the other nations where there are NPCs, an AH, etc...

That pretty much exists, except for the EXP portion. They're called links and you usually try to avoid them.
