    And what's on the PS3 that's a must-have as of right now?

    Nothing.

So, your point? Just because there are games doesn't mean they're worth having. If I'm shelling out $60.00 on games on a $500/$600 console, they damn well better be AAA every time.

But its Sony, so I know otherwise. They release more garbage on thier systems than anyone is willing to admit.

At this point, there is still nothing to want a PS3 for, not even virtual console games, MS and Nintendo locked down the VC side of this gen down. 360 gets PoP Classic and Castlevania, Wii gets like every console ever made one it... PS3 gets lolQ-Bert.

Re: Yoichi Wada calls the PS3 and 360 pieces of crap.

Last I checked, the Wii has already almost moved as many units as the 360. The wii could very well be this generation's PlayStation, that is a generic console with a lot more games than the competition. The Wii is cheap, fun, and popular... not to mention something other consoles don't have: sleek.

When Nintendo ramps up production, I wouldn't be surprised to see it boom again when everyone can find one at a decent cost (I still occasionally see people selling a box for 300$+)

Heck, if Nintendo price cuts the Wii before MS can cut the 360 down to be even cheaper, they've pretty much got it in the bag. I get the feeling a lot of this is going to come down to the holidays this winter, since there should be a lot of good games coming out, it's a matter of which consoles people buy, and given that most people aren't going to spend 700$ (PS3+two games) on an xmas present, when they could get something for 300$ (Wii/360+One or two games, depending on price cuts) that's essentially the same.

Right now, the Wii's biggest problem is that nobody really bothered making a killer app for it, the closest thing to that would be Twilight Princess, and that's really a gamecube game with tacked on controls. Once companies start treating the Wii as a new console and not gamecube with a different controller, things should improve.

I saw some number yesterday: 8.17 million Wiis moved, 10 million 360s moved.

And, there's a difference between wanting to see just how much you can squeeze out of a powerful system and liking the system.

Yep, I imagine a lot of developers would love to see what the PS3 can do at it's peak, but they don't want to put the effort into doing it themselves.

That sounds about right...and remember, the Wii is still hard to find in some places, and the 360 has been out for what, an extra year?

Don't take that as a sniping comment; I own a Wii. There's just absolutely nothing much to buy for it at the moment, and not a whole lot on the horizon that looks enticing either. Who cares if it costs somewhat less if you can't develop titles that people want to buy?
I'm not disputing the fact that it's easier to develop for the Wii since you don't have to do HD resolution (which simplifies a lot of things, such as models, shaders, not to mention engine source code itself), but there appears to be a hidden tradeoff of learning curve buried somewhere since the vast majority of Wii games are so milquetoast it's not even funny.
            Icemage

there is a learning curve; the cross console titles suck because they don't adapt the control schemes efficiently and rather than develop for the wii graphics, they just low res the textures and drop the AA. (halving texture resolutions without cleaning them is a good way to make *anything* look like crap)

look at the studios who are actually attempting to develop for the wii and what titles have come out so far. most major developers with 'poor' (non-movie titles) are getting hit on either a) lack of content (easily attributed to wanting the game out as close to initial launch as possible, all console launches are like this - wii's ease of minigame design didn't help it.) or clunky/unresponsive controls (and nintendo titles demonstrate what *is* possible with this control scheme.) it's just that nintendo's in house teams have a leg up since they've been developing since early betas rather than after the development kit was finalized. - they've got a year to two year jump on learning how to work with the control scheme.

and most of the big 3rd party houses have hits now: sonic is good, ssx blur is good (and incredibly intuitive, my grandmother is playing it) red steel was good (especially considering when it released relative to the console).

and the stable of titles will grow, considering how well the console has been selling (to gamers and non-gamers alike)

Actually, I'd seen a video at one point of a dev kit for Wiimote controls, it looked like it was fairly easy to program the controls. It basically went down to doing an action a few times, and the program would recognize it. I'm sure it could use a bit of fine tuning afterwards, but it looked pretty simple to get it to work most of the time

I kid you not, if you ask any store employee (at any store that sells games, but game stores even moreso) if they have any Wiis in stock, they will laugh at you in an ass-headed way. 2 of my friends just finally found one each after weeks of active searching.

Honestly, I think a Killer App for Wii might just be a DS player >_> If nintendo can pull that off somehow, the DS's huge market could really help them, especially in Japan. I suppose it would be something like, point to aim, A to touch, up/down/left/right are abxy, B is R, Z is L.... nevermind, I think nintendo's pretty screwed there :p

I haven't had someone laugh at me, but I did have an employee at best buy try to guilt me for buying one of the few they had left in stock, since they wanted one.

I guess they're just that damn rare here. They act like you're an idiot for even asking.

Your little story reminds me of my cousin at Best Buy after getting his Wii (at WalMart): There was a man with his kids, he says "There's that Mario game ya'll were talking about..", he reaches for it, and my cousin swipes it out of his way. The guy looked up at me like somebody slapped him in the mouth.

I haven't seen a shortage of Wii games at all. Hell, the Best Buys around here must have like 50 boxes of WiiPlay out for people to buy.

My Wii has been collecting dust since a week after I bought it (about the time I beat Zelda)

While it's a cool console, Nintendo was to wake the hell up and smell the coffee; They keep releasing crap after crap title. I don't even want to look at the vast majority of Wii titles out there to be perfectly honest. A couple have perked my interest at best.

Meanwhile you've got the 360 with Halo 3 over the horizon, and PS3 has Lair, Metal Gear 4, Warhawk and Crysis on the way. All I can say is Smash Bros. Brawl and Metroid Prime 3 better damn well be good >. >

I love all 3 companies/systems, but ever since Gamecube I've been reluctant to support Nintendo very much.

EDIT: For the record I freaking loved Twilight Princess

Like was said, the wii's best titles are from Nintendo, because the only other devs that got interested in it were crappy movie deals. Nintendo can't control the games made for their system (they tried, and failed horribly)

It's not a matter of waking up, people have already done that, it's a matter of companies making wii games now that they know it's a popular console.

PS3 has several titles that are worth owning. Resistance: Fall of Man is a pretty good shooter (and arguably the best console shooter in multiplayer on any platform). The PS3 version of Oblivion looks, plays and performs better than the Xbox 360 version. Motorstorm is a pretty good racing game that's visually and viscerally pleasing, if a bit short on tracks, and it's also great in multiplayer.

What does the Wii have? Super Paper Mario, Twilight Princess (both from Nintendo) and...?

I agree about the online downloads though. Nintendo is making a mint on their Virtual Console sales.

Nintendo can't win on the strength of their traditional market alone. We saw what happens when they try with the GameCube.

Color me dubious about the buying enthusiasm of the casual market that Nintendo's trying to cultivate. It could work, but unless they start putting out something less trashy than Mario Party 8 (and yes, MP8 most certainly sucks), the current buying habits from the casual gamers is probably not going to be sustainable.
