Haven't played in 4-5 months. Looking for some friends or maybe even an account xD. My character is a 100 White Knight but currently, since I haven't played so long I forgot my info.

played for a while a looooong time ago. Only got to level 50 something. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,
but there are others who with the help of their art and their intelligence
transform a yellow spot into the sun.

Re: Anyone play MapleStory?
I played it once, I uninstalled it after about 2 hours of playing. I tried to give it a chance since a friend said it was really good...

Lol, no but seriously the game is terribly addicting and has many players. A lot of people stereotype and think only young kids play it. A lot of the people I know are 16-26. Not as young as people think seeing most think 12 year olds rule the game lol.
Anyway, hope some of you join in the fun because with the new update the game has a lot to offer.

Re: Anyone play MapleStory?
DirectX is a lot more then just 3d graphics. Thats why you can't just say "why didn't they just use OpenGL and port it to other platforms." It's not so simple.

A lot, if not all, third and fourth job skills are 3D.

Re: Anyone play MapleStory?
DirectX is a suite of standard ways to do input and output on Windows:
Direct3d is the 3d - OpenGL can do this and be cross platform, but DirectX is in general easier to write for.
DirectDraw is 2d - There is no real cross platform library for this. As I understand it, OpenGL can do some 2d glyphs, but that's not what it was created for.
DirectInput - Keyboard, mice and joystick input, again there is no real cross platform library for this.
DirectSound - Sound effects and music, again there is no real cross platform library for this.
That is why non-3d apps can still require DirectX. Without using DirectX, the designer will often be required to write their own libraries to handle it (which is no more cross platform then DirectX is) spending time on that development instead of game creation.
Not using DirectX does not magically make a cross platform game. So unless you have created a cross platform fully 3d game, I wouldn't go around saying what's stupid and what isn't.
More on topic, I've never heard of MapleStory.
