Re: HD TV recommendation? xbox 360 learning curve?

For a second I misread that as "Gamestop" and started to get an urge to maim him. Makes me wonder how many people i'd be pissed off with if I were actually dyslexic.

What the hell do you mean not-so-good english skill? 80% of the people you see here with horrible english are native to the USA, I still keep forgetting you aren't from the states.

listening and speaking are totally different than reading/typing tho D: When watching movies or TV shows, if I don't pay extra attention, I won't even understand half of what they are talking about.

Actually you might notice I only use simple easy words when I type in the forum too. That is all I can do very, very casual. When I need to write anything professionally, I can never do it the way Akosygin can.

Not really. Pioneer and Panasonic reign supreme with Plasma displays. You could argue LCD perhaps, as Sony, Sharp, and Samsung all have awesome LCD sets with arguable strengths and weaknesses between them. As far as DLP goes, the best set out right now is a Mitsubishi.

Also, HDMI 1.3 is the usual marketing BS. By the time HDMI 1.3 equipment reaches a price range reasonable enough for the average consumer, HDMI 1.4 will be making its way in. I seriously doubt anyone here is willing to spend the money needed to really take advantage of HDMI 1.3's improved audio and video that could go towards buying a brand new car instead... in cash.

Same here >_> it's TV, it just turns into white noise after awhile.

If you feel you're lacking, maybe try to get your LS or whatever on VoIP (Vent,TS,Skype, Etc) and just listen and practice. If you can understand and talk to strange people that came from the interweb over a mediorce medium, you can listen to anything, except auctions. Re: HD TV recommendation? xbox 360 learning curve?

Jei, setting resolution for PS3 is very easy and can be done at any time in the Display Settings menu. For the 360 it's roughly the same thing, and with the Wii, you can enter the settings menu and change from 480i to 480p very easily. I don't know about the other platforms but I do know for sure that if you have your PS3 set for 1080p and HDMI and you switch TVs to, say, 480i with Composite A/V cables, it will change resolutions automatically without you having to do anything. The 360 should be the same and the Wii most likely is. The PS3 has a list of "preferred resolutions" and if you switch to a TV that does not support your top choice, it'll automatically scale down to the next, and so on.

Jwalton, I apologize and I should have been a little more specific in my statement. I've heard fantastic things about Pioneer and Panasonic TVs, particularly their Plasma sets. From personal experience though I can say that Sony Bravias are among the best LCD HDTVs I've seen, particularly at full HD. I can't say the same about their Plasma sets however, as I've not seen many of them and, from the looks of the sales, Bravia LCD is Sony's #1 focus in the HDTV market.

As for HDMI 1.3, yeah, it can be pricey. I bought my TV late last year so it lacks HDMI 1.3, but my friend has his PS3 connected to one of the new 1.3 Samsungs and the difference is noticeable. HDMI 1.3 offers double the bandwidth of 1.1 and supports Dolby TrueHD, which is great for those with a fancy surround sound system.

I agree with you however. By the time the TV I wanted was affordable for me HDMI 1.3 was just around the corner. By the time an HDMI 1.3 HDTV shows up in my price range, I wouldn't be surprised if HDMI 1.4 or something was gonna be out soon. Granted, that won't be an issue for me, but I can see where it can be a problem for people who upgrade their HD hardware every year.

Since the PS3 still one of the only (if not the only) HDMI 1.3-enabled product out there, it's unlikely that I would need a TV with anything more advanced than that, as the platform will likely be around for at least another 7 years like its predecessors, which is probably around the time I'd be looking for a new HD set anyhow. It's actually pretty exciting to think about what kinds of HDTVs will be coming out around the time the PlayStation 4, 3rd-gen Xbox and new Nintendo platforms (and the Phantom?) are coming out.

Sweet. I'm currently 360-less, but I'll be picking up a 360 Elite in another month or two, if my work gets some soon. They only got two on release day and haven't had any out since then. >.>; Microsoft hasn't released sales or shipping numbers yet for the Elite Model, so I'm hoping it wasn't a failure and they're planning on phasing it out or something. It's everything I could ever ask for in a 360.

Uck, so I have a pending 360 request? Blah.

BTW, BoomBoom Rocket.. Fun game, but really really shitty for the price, only 10 songs, 3 different levels... not worth 800 points.

I bought one circa December to complete the next-gen trifecta and it promptly died on me a week later. After I had it replaced by Microsoft (quickly and for free, at least) I sold it as rumours about a new version of the 360 became more numerous.

The 360 Elite is practically everything I could ever hope for in an Xbox system, so once Microsoft gets around to implementing their 65nm processor in their productions I'll grab a new one.

I'm really dying to get a new one as soon as possible but I'd like at least attempt to hold out on it a little while longer, at least in hopes of getting a system that runs a little cooler and quieter.

Why do you care about the processor? what is it going to change?

EDIT: I mean, 360s should be fine as long as you keep them in an open area anyway.

At 20-25" you don't have to spend a bundle, and 1080p is a waste of time.

For portability at that size, I'd definitely recommend LCD technology. It's cool, compact, and at smaller screen sizes, offers the best value for your money.

                                ---

I can't speak about the Xbox 360 since I don't own one, but I do own the other two. The Wii is dead simple: it has only one resolution - 480i/p. The PS3 will auto-configure via HDMI (it's part of the HDMI protocol so the PS3 will know what your TV can handle), or you can force it to output only a specific type of signal.

You can always force the PS3 to down-rez to its default factory settings using a manual powerup reset by holding down the power button after startup.
