I've heard people complaining about the beta for a number of reasons, but your take on it seems to be an issue with the things that should be present in a beta: bugs.
When something like what you've mentioned happens, you're supposed to report it so the developer can figure out what may be causing the problem and how they can fix it. It's essentially the point of a beta test. Betas aren't meant solely to give everyone a chance to play the game and build hype before release. They're also meant to get the unfinished build of the game out to as many people as possible to get the best possible playtesting done to clean out all the bugs and polish the game before release.
