Re: I suppose Jack won't ever learn to quit...
You should know that there is a lot of forces in the US that are switching their guns out for nonlethal alternatives such as tazers, or at least carrying tazers in addition to lethal force. This applies to both our police and security guards. A lot of our law enforcement, be it rent-a-cops or armed forces, would MUCH RATHER chase a suspect for 15 minutes than shoot them. Honestly, the average person watching cops could realize this. PLEASE don't assume things about us unless you've actually been here. The picture people paint of America (and honestly, pretty much any country on the planet) is not what it actually is. We don't walk around waving guns around and threatening anyone who thinks we shouldn't have them anymore than you walk around drinking tea and crumpets and playing croquet, or an Aussie would be anxious to get home and put some bangers on his barbie.
You CANNOT make the situation improve simply by making things illegal. Look at prohibition. Do I think that alchohol should be legal? Depends on circumstances. Do I think it was a huge failure? Of course. Making things illegal can honestly hurt more than it helps. The majority of people that are going to shoot and kill another human DON'T REALLY GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE LAW, do they? If I wanted to go out with a band, why the hell would I care if I'm breaking the law? If I want to end someone's life, what the hell is needing to be a couple years older, or get a permit going to do to stop me?
Unless you propose we start searching homes on a whim or create a Thought Police, killers will be killers, you just can't stop it.
