Re: I suppose Jack won't ever learn to quit...

You should know that there is a lot of forces in the US that are switching their guns out for nonlethal alternatives such as tazers, or at least carrying tazers in addition to lethal force. This applies to both our police and security guards. A lot of our law enforcement, be it rent-a-cops or armed forces, would MUCH RATHER chase a suspect for 15 minutes than shoot them. Honestly, the average person watching cops could realize this. PLEASE don't assume things about us unless you've actually been here. The picture people paint of America (and honestly, pretty much any country on the planet) is not what it actually is. We don't walk around waving guns around and threatening anyone who thinks we shouldn't have them anymore than you walk around drinking tea and crumpets and playing croquet, or an Aussie would be anxious to get home and put some bangers on his barbie.

You CANNOT make the situation improve simply by making things illegal. Look at prohibition. Do I think that alchohol should be legal? Depends on circumstances. Do I think it was a huge failure? Of course. Making things illegal can honestly hurt more than it helps. The majority of people that are going to shoot and kill another human DON'T REALLY GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THE LAW, do they? If I wanted to go out with a band, why the hell would I care if I'm breaking the law? If I want to end someone's life, what the hell is needing to be a couple years older, or get a permit going to do to stop me?

Unless you propose we start searching homes on a whim or create a Thought Police, killers will be killers, you just can't stop it.

Rush might be extremely conservative and I really don't like him, but him taking this stand doesn't surprise me. Any Democrat or Republican with an ounce of dignity wouldn't pin this tragedy on a trifle.

I want Rush to get Jack Thompson on his show and I want to listen to it.

On April 18, NBC News received a package from Cho timestamped between the first two murders and the rest of the massacre two hours later. It contained an 1,800-word manifesto, pictures, and 23 videos.[49] In the videos, sent in QuickTime format, Cho discussed his religion and his hatred of the wealthy. He also said in one of the videos, "You had a hundred billion chances and ways to have avoided today...But you decided to spill my blood. You forced me into a corner and gave me only one option. The decision was yours. Now you have blood on your hands that will never wash off."[50]
From wikipedia. So yeah, the guy was just insane.

And yeah, when I lived with my grandparents for a couple months, I listened to NPR alot (It was Iowa, name something else to do. Play FF7 and listen to DR. LAURA "THE LEARNINATOR" SCHARTZENEGGER. Never agreed with him politically, but I have to say, when he's right, he's right. Wait, didn't I already say that?

Well, i'm saying it again, because it's true.

Re: I suppose Jack won't ever learn to quit...

God, I love how people need to blame something, anything, when tragedies like this occur. According to the media, you would think there's no way someone could just be psychotic, it has to be video games, music, religion, or drugs. Everybody was abused as a child, every child has ADD and must be medicated...it's disgusting.

Obviously this individual was severely disturbed, and that may be all the explanation we ever get. Based on the news reports I've been reading about this guy it's not like he was completely normal before this...lots of faculty and students at VA Tech have gone on record saying that there was just something "not right" about him; his Poetry teacher said that as soon as she heard there was a shooting, she knew it was him, and she would have been "suprised if it was anyone else".

For reasons like this, legality of owning firearms aside (he legally purchased all the guns he used), I'm of the opinion that anyone that wants to buy a gun needs to submit to psychological testing. There's no reason that someone with mental illness should be able to own a gun, regardless of the 2nd ammendment...if they want to blame anything, blame the ease with which one is able to buy a gun in this country...it's not as easy as it was 30 years ago, but obviously there's still improvements to be made.

            Just my two cents...
I'm a slow motion accident, lost in coffee rings and fingerprints...

And Hantz, I have no idea if there's even anywhere around here you could play. Thanks for finding the typo though.

The pictures were added by someone else, but the graph is precise. The "increase in gun violence" is bull.

I'd rather not get into the phrase "gun culture," because it's so sweeping and vast in it's assumptions and just plain idiocy.

On another forum quite a while ago when the whole Sims nudity thing was big, there was a "Chop Jack Thompson" thread. This was my contribution to said thread:

Not really a great chop but it's funny nonetheless. The guy needs to get a fucking life though and quit bothering about people who enjoy some harmless video game fun.

LOL ... I just thought he'd be pissed if he were somehow reduced to pixelated nudity. And besides, there aren't any fat Sims.

Personally, I think Jack Thompson is an absolute moron. The youth of today (me being part of it) are used to video game gore and violence, and are smart enough (if we have a basic sense of right and wrong) to keep the violence in the game. And getting mad because a small percentage of players wanted to play a sex mini-game in GTA or play with topless characters in Oblivion is pure bull. A VERY small percentage of players use these mods or hacks, and if they do, so what? If I wanted to look at a naked video game character, I will. (Not saying that I want to). Anyways... not quite sure what I've trailed on about. I still think Jack is a moron.
