  • Sony Nixes Smaller Capacity PS3

    Here's the article:
    http://www.technewsworld.com/story/56858.html

    ------------

Can't say I exactly seen that coming, but it definitely doesn't surprise me. People will always want more HDD storage and WiFi capabilities as opposed to simply not having either. Usually a person's bank account is the only deciding factor in those kinds of decisions.

I kind of expected this, I mean there's no real reason to have ever gotten the smaller, unless you just -had- to have a PS3, and didn't have an extra $108(including tax) to spend. I mean if I had gotten one, I would have just pawned something or borrowed money to cover the rest so that I can get a 60 GB.

That's my take too. Firstly, I wasn't exactly pumped up about getting a PS3 ASAP (still don't have one actually), but I knew it'd be the 60Gig model if I did get one.

I did sort of lawl at the reasoning behind actually launching a 20GB model in the first place:

The 20 GB PlayStation 3 (PS3), priced at US$499, was the cheaper of the two models Sony released in November. At the time the game manufacturer believed that the less expensive model would attract gamers who could not afford the pricier model...
Ha. Words like 'cheaper' and 'less expensive' don't sit well with me when the figures used are $500.

lol...yea, I assume they just copied Microsoft and was hoping it would work out where they failed...

But same here, I've yet to get a PS3, and I only plan on getting one when FFXIII is closer to coming out...or I'll just be at my friend's house everyday and play it when he sleeps. >_>

Well it was cheaper than buying a car.

I am going to wait until FFXIII and Killzone to come out before I purchase mine.

Honestly this game is the only reason I haven't picked up the PS3 yet, I spend most of my small amount of free time in Vanadiel so haven't had a need to pick up the new system, Im sure this has been addressed before, does FF XI work on the 3 yet? Might be kinda cool to play it on the 62" vice the 20" monitor

I think it works on PS3 now. And yes its more fun to play on large tv instead of playing on my comp.
              Thanks Kazuki.

Still looks better than my 17" monitor and junk graphics card.
                  Thanks Kazuki.

That would be the graphics card, if you configured FFXI properly.

Till SE releases somekind of upgrade for XI on the PS3 (so the PS2 version supports Full HD), your best bet to play XI at high res on a big display is the PC version.

Right now PS2 games are still 480i or 480p which does indeed make em look kinda crappy on bigger displays.

Although if the rumor is true and they are working on allowing PS2 games run in high res then games like God of War are gonna pwn on the PS3.

They should just take out the blue ray or whatever that expensive thing is. Blue ray players will come out cheaper and cheaper in years to come.

I was actually leaning towards the lower one. I don't really had a need for the 3 or 4 extra things in the higher priced one.

I knew right away I would want the 60gig version, but 6 bills isn't quite pocket change for me at the moment.

And I agree with Jei on the BR support. BR players will be hitting the consumer market shortly (at much inflated prices, I bet), so there isn't a terrible need for them. Although I think PS3 games are blue ray format, so I think that was the only reason it can play BR discs.
