  • EU PS3 game compatibility guide

    Sony has released a list of PS1 and PS2 games that are supposed to be compatible with the EU PS3

    http://faq.eu.playstation.com/bc/

    FFXI is not on the list.

    This might have something to do with there is no EU/PAL version of FFXI for PS2. You know, it were never released in PAL format.

    And since the PS3 still has region encoding as far as it comes to PS1/PS2 games there is no FFXI version that would work on an EU version of the PS3 to start with.
    Keep in mind, sig might be outdated I just update it a few times per week.

      Yes, that's true and it does explain several missing games. However, since the EU is not the only part of the world where the PS3 will be using software emulation, they are still noteworthy exclusions.

      Yes I know that software updates to the emulation software will probably be available for those connecting their PS3 to Sony's online services, but not everyone will be connecting their PS3.

        Didn't FFXI not work for the NA/JP PS3s when they first came out also? I feel in time sony's backwards compatibility problems will be fixed via updates, but then again by that time the PS3 will finally get some new games of it's own worth playing. But still, the basic rule applies, never be the first to buy new tech as it's just gonna get better in a few months anyway.

            Now the big question is, how is the actual emulation? For their sake, hopefully it isn't as lousy as the 360's hilariously bad emulation.

              From what we've see so far of PS3's BC, I'm not holding out much hope (I've seen the side-by-side comparison of FFX on PS2 and PS3 and all I can saw is... ew.) I might as well just get a new PS2 if I want to play PS2 and PSX games. Kinda sad that after so long it seems like these companies almost want to forget what games built their customer base. As much as Nintendo whores out their characters, at least they don't forget their roots.

              And hell, Wii is rumored to be picking up Saturn games soon. How much console emulation can they stuff inside a Wii? I wonder if Dreamcast is next, maybe Sony could pitch in and start putting PSX games on Wii. I'm sure it could handle them better than a PS3 could

                Ew, the backwards compatability for Australia's PS3 is pretty bad from looking at that list. There's a lot of noticable problems in all the games I have (all FF games for PS1/PS2, and a few others). ><;
