LittleBigPlanet looks awesome. Home looks like it could be cool, but I'd rather just play an MMO. =P

Konami has to take it down because there's no longer revenue from that game to support it, that's not their fault. Had this title been on Xbox Live, MS would have hosted the servers themselves, done the work for Konami and used the Live fees to continue support for the game.

      Which brings us to...

Sony's leaving it up to the developers again
That's the whole problem with Sony, its basically what Nintendo did last generation - thier stance is apathetic. Part of the reason games that could have been exclusives on PS3 are now also going to Xbox360 is because MS just has a more supportive network for thier online games. MS will pick up the tab on servers and maintain the online experience - that is the benefit of subscription fees and that's good for all gamers on Live.

Sony's approach works fine for a behemoth company like SE, but other third parties, especially the smaller ones, can't do what SE does. That's why Live's system works, smaller devs have a better chance. And same thing with a Wi-Fi network where players host - no risk.

Your point is true, not all developers can host their own servers for a free network, like with the PlayStation 2's online system.

However, this is no longer the previous generation and downloadable content has become the biggest money-maker for this generation.

Developers can easily make more than enough by selling content on the PlayStation store, as opposed to not being able to pull in any revenue from a game after the initial sale, in the case of the PS2-generation.

I'm not saying we'll never see a PS3 game go offine. It's going to happen to a lot of games. It's happened to Xbox games. However, do keep in mind that there are still quite a few PS2 games still running online. MGS3 is going down for some reason which I can't explain; the game isn't even 2 years old. Perhaps Konami's found that more people are playing Portable Ops online? Perhaps they're devoting their resources to MGS4 online?

I can't explain MGS3's situation for you, but I can tell you that most of the online games in my PS2 library still run online with the exception of a few, and a couple more like Amplitude going down some time in the near future.
