    Re: Hmm I'm kinda converted....

Are you sure Jei? I mean lets look at your history here:

Jaza-Titan, RDM70 WHM50ish? Deleted to start an HNMLS on Bismarck

Jerith-Bismarck, RDM75 and whatever else. Started the HNMLS Lunarians then eventually quit and later moved to WoW. Lunarians remain as a top HNMLS on Bismarck to date.

Jaza (taru version)-Titan RDM75 and whatever else. Returns from WoW and takes a vast interest in fishing. Obtains one of the first Ebisu Rods.

You seem to have a history of coming and going. At least save your character this time in case you change your mind XD.

Heh, Jei sounds like me. At least I've stopped deleting my characters when I leave though. And giving all my gil/items away. Big mistake, that. :/

I hope you enjoy the new game, Jei. But I also hope you do someday migrate back to XI. We're not even on the same server, but there's always a sadness that comes when someone I've met on these forums decides to move on. There's something of a bond we all share on here and I condsider you all friends. Anyways, I'm getting all sappy. The game sounds really fun and I hope its what you're looking for right now. So long as you don't quit posting here, otherwise I'll just have to track you down and force you to log on here.

Good luck in Vanguard Jei. =) It does look like a nice and interesting game. And I absolutely love the 'new car smell' of an MMORPG. =P

For me, I think I'll continue on with FFXI for now. I have built up my Tarutaru a lot of the two years (been playing for 3, but deleted a few characters). That and I've still got a few friends left, though I'm faced with a huge problem of being in the same time zone as JP, so I can't really do much end game at all. =\

I really love the look of Vanguard though, and you make it sound really fun. Except the character models are pretty ugly, and they don't look like they fit into the environment too well (which is what FFXI has done perfectly, IMO).

Just out of interest, would this computer be able to run FFXI:
            2.8GHZ P4
            2GB RAM
            ATI Radeon 9800 Pro

If I were to play this, and those specs ran it great. I'd just have to buy 1GB of RAM, and if the graphics card's not too good, I could spend a bit extra to get a newer one. (Plan to do this later down the track anyways, until I need a dual core processor / 64 bit).

"... and so I close, realizing that perhaps the ending has not yet been written."

              Jeiiiiiii don't go D:

Well, have fun in Vanguard, it seems like a solid game from what I've seen. I won't dwell on it too much. They all come crawling back to FFXI sooner or later.

                Re: Hmm I'm kinda converted....

FFXI HAS dungeons that you can't just sneak through, that are immersive and give you a great sense of exploration. Promyvions, Riverne, Sacrarium, Hu'Xzoi and Ru'Hmet, Salvage areas...

Those areas have one thing in common aside from true sight mobs - players avoid them like the plague. Nobody goes there except if they can't help it. There's maybe 2 LSs per server doing Salvage, and all the other zones are deserted except when someone's doing a mission or looking for an NM. And that's *with* the fact that although sneak/invis don't work, in most of those areas you can still avoid most mobs by moving when their backs are turned or some equivalent.

Most people don't want to be forced to fight every goblin, beetle and worm in the area to do what they're trying to do.

You're also conveniently ignoring the moogle charm, fleeing and other ways to avoid time-wasting encounters in "classic FFs" - not to mention the fact that most of those encounters would still be able to give you significant exp, ABP (in games that have it or an equivalent) and/or valuable drops and therefore not be a complete waste of time the way they would be in FFXI. And since those games aren't MMOs, there's few reasons to go back through early dungeons again and again to help newer players with a quest you've already done.

Now, granted, at this point in Vanguard's development there hardly are any newer players, and you may or may not have ever helped one with a quest you'd already done that was in an area significantly below your level. But I'll bet if you did it would be a tedious pain in the ass, just like it is in WoW. That's what happens when there's no way to avoid nuisance mobs you don't really want to fight, just get past.

                  Re: Hmm I'm kinda converted....

... do you seriously have fun fighting through prommies to the boss? I didn't. Not even on my first time there. We still avoided as much monsters as possible on the upper levels where aggro means you find safe spot to die and get raise.

Rivern, Sacrium, Huxoi, we HAD to clear the true sight and still sneak throug the rest.

Well, you can't really compare dungeon encouters with VG without trying it out really. It's so much different. So. Different.

Anyway. I can't return to FFXI anymore.

                    Slighty off topic...

You mean that red outfit was actually armor?

I thought she jumped into a vat of red paint...

Somewhere, there is a kid pointing to the arcade screen saying, "My Dad worked on the bounce algorithms for Taki's red outfit!" Just kinda funny to think about, because someone had to do it, damn that overtime

... do you seriously have fun fighting through prommies to the boss? I didn't. Not even on my first time there. We still avoided as much monsters as possible on the upper levels where aggro means you find safe spot to die and get raise.
Actually I did, we avoided what mobs we could and fought what mobs we had to, I wouldn't have minded a bit more fighting on the way up.

The 3rd floor though normally means you fight one mob, and get at least 3 other links/aggro, so yeah, not so much fun there. I still go back and solo/party with others there sometimes for fun and profit.

However I think the enjoying going back to an old dungeon and whether or not you have to fight your way through instead of sneaking through are more matters of personal taste. Some people will want to sneak through and some will want to fight through.

You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

                        Re: Hmm I'm kinda converted....

I'm managing to upgrade my computer slightly (2GB RAM and a new 7600GT or 7800GT AGP graphics card). I would love to give this a try, but I just wish they had some sort of demo...

I've been playing a bit of LotR: Online lately, in closed beta, and it's not too bad. But I may as well just play WoW, where I don't have to wait a few months or so for it to be established better.

                          Re: Hmm I'm kinda converted....

The more I play Vanguard the less I even want to look at the graphics of WoW. The game is still a little buggy and the joyous days of getting your ass trained by idiots is back. Despite all that it's exciting to be part of a game from launch, it's something I missed with FFXI and WoW. I still may back off a little and give Sigil time to finish their game before I consider quitting the other games fully though.

Yesterday, I was grouping at the buggiest place since I started the game.
Tons of disconnecting, tons of crashing, tons of death. Wasting so much time losing so much exp.

Quite frustrating. But still... I stayed at that place from 10AM to 5AM -.- It's just fun despite all the bugs and downtime.

There are 10 days free trial keys you can use to try the game for free. But only people who bought the collector's edition get those key. I wish they'd make it easier to obtain those keys really...

The game is OK, I guess. Its lack of telling the players what to do and where to go doesn't really sit too well with me. It seems to lack direction, other than, "These guys are being bad, so kill them." I just feel so overwhelmed.
I dunno. :s I really enjoy the Druid class, though.

FFXI doesn't exactly point you in any particular direction either, and it seems to do ok.

If I could justify paying $50 for a game that I know is going to be buggy, I'd give Vanguard a try (I do love when a MMO is just getting started), but I just can't.
