Sorry if this was posted already (I tried to find previous posts about it) but I was lurking around another forum and found a thread about a new Final Fantasy MMORPG.

The source of the info was from http://www.ffinsider.net/post/final-...----again.html and it had the following:

Final Fantasy goes online... again
Not satisfied with Final Fantasy 11's success, Square's dipping Final Fantasy into the online sauce again!

Apparently, this new Final Fantasy online will (at first) be only for PS3 and X360, and isn't related to FF11. Rather than a brand new world though, the team has decided to set the game in an already established world from a previous Final Fantasy...

The possibilities are endless.

Most likely though, is that this will be a new entrant into the Ivalice Alliance, as I can't see Nomura directing a new online entrant into the Compilation of Final Fantasy 7 world (see previous article). No word on when it will see release, or members of the team, or even if the PS3 and 360 version will interact, but we'll keep you updated.

I really hope this is true, I would love to be playing an MMORPG on my Ps3 (not just playing the Ps2 version on Ps3), although it would be tough to leave my character behind...

Any thoughts or other info about this?

Keeping with the true cross-platform success that SE has had with FFXI, they should also make this game for PC (maybe even Mac/Linux)

If it is another FF related MMO, then Ivalice would be the natural choice. I will not play an MMORPG set in FF7's world.

But I really do hope it's true. I've been looking forward to what SE can do after all the lessons they've learned from FFXI, and with new kickass graphic capabilities.

Well even though they are not quoting a source, this rumor has been out for awhile, did they still target 2008 for the release like the previous rumor?

I wasn't saying this was true or untrue (I assumed that this was clear when I said "I hope this is true" in my initial post), just asking for thoughts about it or if anyone had any info on it. (Possibly some "real" sources).

well the trail of the source cites gamefront which claims (i think, my german is level zero) it's a blurb from EGM. there's nothing on the online site that i can see, but maybe it's in the print version

Dear god do not let it be the FFVII world, I will not play it.

FFVI or FFIV and you've sold me on it.
Invalice? Maybe. In fact, just call the game "Invalice."
Spira, FFX-3? That might work.

I think the world of Invalice or FFVI would bring in the broadest range of jobs.

Just not the FFVII or even the FFVIII world, no thank you. Let it be a classic world.

Also, don't do that Star Wars Galaxy shit, set it after the events of one of those games. Setting it during the events of one of those games simply limits expansion potential.

I think its rather obvious there would inevitably be a PC version, given Sony's historical blunder with the PS2 HDD.

One a side note, I would very much like to see a reverse happen to FFXI, I'd love to see a single player FFXI that takes place during the events of The Great War. We only are allowed to see snippets of the past through AF quests and allusions in mission storylines.

Lets take some of those heroes, the original battle with the Shadow Lord, the Northlands incident, the fall of Tavnazia and tie up those loose ends. Perhaps as a subplot, save the world from some hidden machinations of the Zilart even if its not a direct encounter.

I think its just that FFXI being online only, but it won't be something you can just go back and play years and years from now and get nostalgic about, I'd like to see the game have some legacy to it that can be experienced again like the other games.

I will not play an MMORPG set in FF7's world.

It's ok. Even if the game took place in Ivalice, 1 out of every 3 players will still run around with a name that's some variant of "Cloud" or "Sephiroth".

I'd of course love to see it set in FFVI or even FFIV's world, but I figure that's not likely. They'd go with one of the more recent, recognizable worlds. Given how much they're pimping FFXIII's world, that might be a possibility.

I also thought it'd be nice to have an offline component to FFXI. I don't see it happening, but it would be fun.

That's way too soon. If it was coming out next year, we'd have more than vague rumors, I would think.
