PS2 HDD and FFXI kits

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
I don't know of any retailer that would have them consistently. I still have my unopened PS2 HDD + FFXI kit that I received from Square-Enix for participating in the NA beta (unopened), but I doubt there's many people like me with them just sitting around collecting dust. The PS2 HDD hasn't been supported at all by Sony since late 2004.

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
Ya i know. I would like to find one as that will be the cheapest way to play when I have free time as opposed to getting a 360 or building a PC.
Looks like Walmart is advertising the HDD and FFXI/Zilart base. Amazon seems to have some CoP and ToAU PS2 media.

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
OK, so I'm now setting my PS2 up for FFXI and would like some suggestions for peripherals. Specifically a wireless keyboard and a wireless bridge for the network.
So, um, suggestions?

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
I'm not sure of any wireless keyboards that work with the PS2...as far as I knew, you had to buy the PS2-specific keyboard...which probably won't be easy to track down. If I'm wrong feel free to correct me...been a while since anyone I knew played FFXI with their PS2.
As for a wireless bridge, I'd go with the one Linksys puts out. I'm not sure of the model number or anything, but co-workers of mine have said they were pretty good. I have a Linksys router and wireless adapters for my desktops and they've served me well for the past 2 years.I'm a slow motion accident, lost in coffee rings and fingerprints...

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
unless you want to set directly in front of tv and play, wireless i do not think has the range. any usb keyboard will work and a usb cable extension helps alot. as for wireless internet there are a couple of different bridges but linksys makes one works well with their wireless routers. can be bought at walmart and works really well.

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
I have a Logitech wireless combo for my PC. I hooked up the keyboard to my PS2, and it DOES work, so you CAN hook up a wireless keyboad to it. I just can't think of any off the top of my head that is sold without the mouse.

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
Wireless periphials? One word, Logitech.
Go logitech, they make the BEST keyboards and mice that I have ever used (what is the plural for a mouse anyway, meeses?)
I use a Logitech LX 700 system, the mouse and keyboard are just, superb, I really love the feel of the keys and the button layout. It has an operating range of about.... I'd say 20 feet, assuming that there is no wall between your keyboard and the PC/PS2 you are using it for. It also depends on thickness of wall and some other stuff, but with a wall I'd still say you could safely operate your keyboard/mouse within 15 feet of your PS2.
I would highly recommend the logitech LX 700, or any of the other logitech wireless mouse/keyboard combos, they make damn good stuff. Their gear feels nice and is highly durable and compatible with alot of programs as well.
Still though, that is my preference, I would also recommend you go down to a Best Buy or some other computer store and check out their wireless keyboards. The feel of the keys are really important to me, they can't be too springy or mushy feeling while I type, you may have a different preference, or you may prefer a different keyboard layout.
You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be misqouted and then used against you.

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
Ditto on the LX700, that's the keyboard/mouse set I use, and I love it...I was looking for new sets when my old Compaq keyboard started acting twitchy, and got it for a steal (It's discontinued now I think so you can prolly find one for cheap somewhere). The software that comes with it is really good, too, so if you wanted to use it with your PC too I think you'd be happy. Lot's of option for programming the hotkeys, which is nice, my old keyboard refused to accept that my music wasn't in my C:\My Documents\My Music folder, so that was a big plus for me.
My brother bought the MX5000 about a month ago, and he likes it a lot. I'm not crazy about it myself (the media controls are all touch pads which irritate me, and it's bluetooth, never have too much luck with bluetooth myself, maybe it just hates me?). But as far as functionality it's pretty close to the LX700, just a little more pricey since it's brand new.I'm a slow motion accident, lost in coffee rings and fingerprints...

Re: PS2 HDD and FFXI kits
20 feet sounds like reasonable range. Why would anyone want to operate a keyboard more than 20 feet from a TV/Monitor anyway? Optimal viewing distance from a screen is basically 3 times the size of the screen. 20 feet away would be optimal viewing distance for... an 80' screen!
And having a wall between your wireless keyboard and your PS2... is that for people who like to play while they're around the corner?Lyonheart

I don't know if the LX700 has been discontinued, I picked up mine within the last 6 months or so I believe at Best Buy, and I saw this model at several office supply stores that I checked out, so I think you can still get it.
