Re: Xbox 360 v2 with HDMI Input

Shoudn't be bad if you trade in your current one.

I'm excited, as my TV supports HDMI, even tho it won't make a big difference with FFXI.

The 120GB is awesome as well. 20GB (~13 out of the box) doesn't cut it, especially when just FFXI takes up 5GB.

Considering right now they are charging $100 for the 20GB add-on, it isn't so bad. Sure it would have been nice to have it in the first place, but I think they made the right move getting out before the competition (even though I've had to return mine THREE times for repairs/replacements)

    Thanks for the sig, Selphiie!!

I swear they did that on purpose. Rush out a crappy/decent console to get people reeled in. Then finish off the good console knowing people will drop another 400$ for one.

This is pretty amusing. Sony releases the PlayStation 3, which has HDMI and 1080p support right out of the box, now Microsoft is trying to follow suit to keep market share.

I suspect this won't go over well with the consumer base that has already purchased a current 360, and especially not well with the people that have already bought the HD-DVD attachment (which, frankly, doesn't work very well anyway).

It has been known since before the 360 launched that there would probably be newer models made. But no one would have guessed it would be so soon.

Still, if someone has bought the seperate drives, they have options. There was a HDMI cable on gamestop.com for the 360. It was made by a 3rd party and was like 60 bucks. It plugged into the regular AV input in the back, but who knows if that port is capable of transmitting in 1080p.

I know a lot of people that planned on trading in their launch consoles anyway with new ones. So this could be a good thing that they can upgrade. Every console needs bugs worked out after a launch, and they produce them better afterwards, and it is common that people that do get the launch consoles trade in new ones just in case. This time they are just adding some extras if you'd like them.

          Thanks for the sig, Selphiie!!

If Microsoft lowers the price to Wii's price next then I'll buy a 360.

This is the Microsoft way, and it's been very successful for them. I'm not really digging at the boys in Redmond. They're very good at gaining initial market momentum with a --- shall we say -- just-functional-enough initial release, and then following it up with a robust delivery.

This also screws anyone over who bought stuff off of the marketplace if they DO choose to get a new console. (I won't be one of those people....lol...)

I think its funny that the posts about this on the Xbox.com forums are getting locked.

                  No it doesn't.

Anything that you DL off the marketplace stays with your gamertag, not your console. You can delete anything off your 360 now, and redownload it again with no charge. Or if you happen to get a new console, you can just DL it again as long as you paid for it originally on your previous 360.

To me this just looks like the regular M$ method that I'm so sick of and had expected. Like I'd been stating for so long the XBox 360 is crap, it boast being the most powerful system but they neglect to say that it's only in the CPU processor and even further it's by none other then making it a powerhog drawing 3 times the power yet only getting about a 55% perfomance boost over a single core and like 5%-15% perfomance boost over a dual core computer.

They hyped up the one area that is likely the consumers will be to ill-informed about to realize how much crap their boasting is. That being the technology, really the XBox isn't much better then a Dual Core computer with 4GB RAM and a GeForce 6 Series 256MB Video RAM system. The only spot it ends up excelling is only in that 5%-15% perfomance boost other wise is power consumption is far worse and the rest is pretty much on par.

I'm assuming you are a PC gamer?

There isn't a snowballs chance in hell you'll see me on a PC after working with one 8 hours each day.

I LOVE my 360. It is plenty powerful enough for me. Games look and feel insanely awesome on it. I've never seen a game look so good or feel so fluid as Gears of War does. Oblivion was amazing (as it is on the PC and will be on the PS3). Call of Duty 2 and 3 were done near perfect on a console. Project Gotham 3 looks real pretty, but I'm really really looking forward to Forza 2. I'm currently having a blast with Dead Rising, and am even thinking about picking up Viva Pinata

But really it doesn't matter what my opinion is, because just the way you worded your post you hate it, always have, and will probably be nothing that happens that will change your mind.

Re: Xbox 360 v2 with HDMI Input

Im just curious, but did anyone hear when abouts they were planning on releasing the new 360? I mean, is this going to be something soon or like a year from now you think?

I'm pumped for this. A friend of mine went to bootcamp and gave us his 360 and all his games to use while he was gone, and I became quite addicted to Fight Night Round 3. Anyways, bootcamp didn't work out for him so he ended up coming home and getting his 360 back from us...very sad day indeed...

Anyways, we bought some extra controllers for it, so we have 2 controllers sitting here and no console. I was planning on picking one up myself with my tax return, but if they are going to release a new version with HDMI, I'm obviously going to wait until that gets released. And a 120 Gig hard drive is nice too...I downloaded a few game demos and 12 gigs just aint enough space at all.

Oh well, guess I'm gonna have to invest in an HDMI switcher...
I'm a slow motion accident, lost in coffee rings and fingerprints...

Nope, not much of a PC gamer. Got maybe 3-5 games on the PC, I only got FFXI on the PC pretty much after my PS2 finally died. It was probably around the time that I decided I needed to get my own computer instead of just being a servicer for my parents and sibling's PCs.

Yes I did lavish on my system it's a very nice system and will be even nicer once I get that second GeForce 7 Series card and run SLI or just get two GeForce 8 Series card debating what I want to really do.

Outside of that I've been mostly a Nintendo and PS gamer. Bought an equivalent of about 30k in value of games for both those lines of consoles. I just don't like M$ doesn't matter what it is, if it has M$ brand on it then I know it's going to be riddled with bugs. All that next generation of it means usually is that they finally figured out how to fix 1 problem and think they've fixed the other 300.

I mean damn Microsoft Office has goning on like 10 years from when I first used and still those very basic problems it has are still there. I can not remember the count of times that they thought they fixed Access so it's database did not do crazy stuff like suddenly changing some information from record 1 and placing it in record 2.

They've done fixes for it over and over and each time saying it fixed it when it only reduced it's occurence. Hell even in Excel on the lastest one I recall using and it still had that stupid bug of not being able to path back to the file if the path had a space in it. Then the inumberal amount of times that the program has issues with properly painting the workspace, often just leaving a huge blank area.

It's why I've abandoned Microsoft Office for Star Office instead, may not be as easy to use but damit it's far more reliable and functional if that makes sense. It isn't only their software, Microsoft Brand Routers and WiFi devices I get such a headache having to fix and they can't stay fixed either they have to break like 5hrs later. Not to mention the recent BS of you tell the OS to change a setting and then it goes and decided you made a mistake and changes it back. Very frustrating when you have to battle with your OS for an hour because it changes a setting back and crashes what you were trying to do.

It's why if most of the stuff on my computer if I can find it for Linux for all the programs I'd switch it to a Linux OS in a heartbeat. I'm sure the games are fun I'm just extreemly disappointed in M$ that I'd rather not do business with them if I don't have too.

In a way I agree with this. But for any MMO that then charges you a monthly fee to pay the game, is where Xbox Live back-fires in my eyes. Pay to get your console online, and then pay to play a game that's online. All while other systems allow you to do that for less money. Even if you're only paying a flat fee for the year, if want to play any other game that charges you to play as well, this may be a problem. There was word about a lot of FFXI people who joined on the X360 who later quit because of this very reason.

My question is, are they upgrading the CPU for v2.0? It says a cooler 65nm processor, but I don't know what's in the current revision so that doesn't mean anything to me.

MS does have a track record of "get 'em hooked" and then later reeling them in with another upgraded item. I have no interest in the X360, but I've come across a few people saying the system appears to have been rushed. Perhaps there's more truth to that than some thought. Get a head start on Sony & Nintendo, and just as the newness to the new systems is starting to subside, drop an upgraded system on the market to shock more people back into their camp.

The only game in the X360 line up that interests me in anyway is Gears of War.
