Recommended PS3 games?

Ok, miraculously I was able to pick up a PS3 today. Glad I was able to get one, but now I have no clue what game(s) to get. Most of whats listed on Best Buy's site isn't released yet. I've heard Fall of Man is supposed to be incredible (on par with Gears of War), but other than that I genuinely have no clue. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Also, they had MGS4 listed as debuting in January and FFXIII Vs. in March. Did they just pull those dates out of regions unknown, or are they really coming out that soon. (I can kinda believe MGS4, but it seems REALLY soon for another FF.)

Resistance is certainly excellent. It's personally my favourite console shooter ever, and overall I'd rate it just behind Half Life 2 and Unreal Tournament 2004. If you like either of those PC shooters, then Resistance is definitely a good bet.

Software is fairly dry otherwise on the PS3 side. There are definitely plenty of sports games (even if you don't normally play them, I'd recommend Fight Night Round 3).

Other than that, the next month or two is all catch-up for developers to port their existing Xbox 360 games from the last year to the PS3 library. February/March is the first big wave of post-launch PS3 games, with titles like Virtua Fighter 5, Motorstorm, Lair, Heavenly Sword, and a couple other notables making way. Late summer is when we'll be seeing titles like Assassin's Creed, Hot Shots Golf 5, Virtua Tennis 4, and Warhawk. In the fall and late winter of 2007, Metal Gear Solid 4 and Grand Theft Auto 4 take the spotlight, and Final Fantasy XIII is currently anticipated for a very late 2007/early 2008 release in Japan.

There are dozens of great looking PS3 games coming out next year and plenty more that have yet to be announced. I'd also highly recommend trying to sign up for a Japanese or Korean PlayStation Network ID so you can access the Eastern Region PS Store and grab the Gran Turismo HD demo that comes out on Saturday. It includes one track and 10 cars from the now-cancelled Gran Turismo HD, which uses a prototype of the next-generation Gran Turismo 5 engine.

If you want a good RPG, try Elder Scrolls 4:Oblivion. Good game, though not as good as number 3, Morrowind.

I recently obtained a Ps3 also. I have Resistance and I agree with Pai Pai, it is one of the best FPS I have played. I am not a big FPS player, but this game has a cool mix of old and new, the game has a great look, and it is really fun. I am almost done with the campaign mode and I am enjoying the story alot. Pretty safe purchase if you like FPS at all.

Last night I got Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I haven't had a chance to play it yet though, but I enjoyed Xmen: Legends, and Baldur's Gate ps2 games, and comic books, so I am sure to enjoy this one.

My internet has been down forever and I hope to resolve that today, but once I get my Network ID I will post it if some of you guys are down for some Resistance online games. I am not too good at FPS so you can have fun shooting me :p

Thanks for help guys. I bought Fall of Man last night and played it a little bit, really enjoying it so far. Also bought Black Hawk Down on BD. Looks fantastic, now just to force myself not to buy too many BD's for awhile until we know more about the format war.
I have Oblivion for 360, so I'm not sure if I'll get it for PS3. I know they're adding some content for it though, so I may get it anyway, since I never played it much on 360 (that was my roomate's job). I figured it was too soon for MGS4 and FFXIII, just wanted to hear from someone who knew more about it than me.
