  • Tales of series

How many here have played these sorely underplayed games? Incase you don't know, here's a few examples:

    Tales of Destiny (PS1)
You assume the role of Stahn Aileron, a traveler with big dreams to see every corner of the globe. However, he's not exactly rich, so he happens upon a Draconis (Airship basically), and hitches a ride. When caught and being sent to see the captain, monsters attack and Stahn meets the living sword, Dymlos. After escaping from the doomed ship, Stahn meets Garr, another swordian user (What the living swords are called), along with Rutee, a lens hunter who also uses a Swordian, and Mary. They go on an adventure and eventually stop a mad man from destroying the world, with help from various friends.

Tales of Destiny II (Eternia in Japan and Europe, orginally for the PS1, ported to the PSP)
You control a hunter named Ried Hershel who wants to live a normal life, save from the looming world of Celestia and their "savages", with his friend Farah, and his not so much a friend, more of a guy who can use giant fireballs, Keele Zeibel. When a ship crashes, they find a girl named Meredy who speaks a strange language, and ends up actually being a Celestian. After finding out about the "Grand Fall", in which the worlds of Celestia and Inferia (Ried and Farah's world) collide with eachother. Which is obvious apocolyptic. With the help of a few other friends, including a leader of a rebellion, a wannabe pirate, and a mysterious swordsman, they stop the god, Neredid and MEredy's mentor, Shizel.

If these don't seem familiar, then try thinking of Tales of Symphonia for the Gamecube, Tales of Legendia for the PS2, and recently lost in the hype from FF12, Tales of the Abyss for the PS2. These games seem like average RPGs, but are different in many senses. First, they use an action based battle system similar to fighting games. You control the actions of one character. Wanna act like an idiot and jump around while your AI controlled teammates kill everything in their path? Go ahead. Wanna make your party members sit around while you own everything solo? You can. You can use any strategy that you can think of.

There are also anime-based cutscenes, with fully voice-acted characters. These scenes do things impossible to do with ingame graphics, and they are chock full of extras, which differ from each game.

Anyways, which one is your favorite and why?

    Re: Tales of series

I've played Tales of Phantasia, Destiny I and II, Symphonia, and Legandia. I'm gonna play of the Abyss after I'm done with FFXII.
