    http://sonyren.blogspot.com/2006/12/...rsus-xiii.html

Quick, watch the trailer before SE removes it like they removed the extra uber Final Fantasy Crisis Core trailer, lol...

If I can find that trailer, btw, I'll repost it, because that game is making me keep my PSP around for a bit longer in eager anticipation.

But anyway, the above link is my take on the FFXIII:Versus Trailer.

I wish it was longer. It definately looks interesting, but there's no action. It looks like they're taking the crystal theme into the future.

I see your 100 and raise you 1,000,000,000 that it doesn't matter if he's emo cause he looks so damn bad ass.

Looks quite awesome, and I had actually kinda forgotten about this game. :x But now that I see it again, I'm curious what the story is like, and how it's related to XIII in general, not to mention what XIII is like period. Btw, PS3 is awesome. @_@

Thanks to Roguewolf for the sig. :D

It looks.. I don't know I'm not getting excited about FF13, maybe it's the blah character designs shown so far or the whole fact that it's obvious Square is starting to reaaally milk the franchise with all these tie ins.

              Re: Final Fantasy Versus XIII

              I'm a big fan of Sci-Fi.

For instance, I don't care much for Halo, and the glaring inaccuracies presented in Halo 2 and all the reasons why Halo 2 is NOT a good game. (Oh yes, I wrote a 3-paged Essay on why it wasn't).

However, I did find myself awake for 3 unnecessary hours because I was on Wikipedia trying to find out as much as I can about the game.

It's very Sci-Fi rich, and the story is deep. They can do a lot with it aside from catering to the mindless FPS whores. It's a real shame that it'll never happen, but I don't envision Microsoft just letting a franchise die.

But aside from that, the music is very reminiscent of KH2, and I love Nomura's leather fetish (I'd have no shame cosplaying in what Cloud wore in Advent Children.)

After seeing SEs production mastery in FFXII, I am eagerly anticipating FFXIII (both iterations).

We can trust that the "graphics" will at least be on par with the .7 seconds of gameplay we saw of the FFXIII that followed the female lead.

Every FF has had crystals but FFVIII, I believe. Nomura - for whatever reason - likes to avoid that theme. Well except he calls them Materia or Spheres. Jewels all the same, they're crystals

Well, this will be yet another Nomura FF, so you can expect it to be emo. FFXI, FFXII and the FFIII DS remake were a nice break from Emo Fantasy.

FFXI just has players that are emo, the game's story itself... that's more in line with the classics. Only thing Nomura touched in FFXI was the original character design. Glad it ended there.

I will say this, though, at leas they're making these "sequels" closer to the release of the original game. I can't help but think of Crisis Core and Dirge as tacked-on cash-ins on FFVII. The movie was nice, but that's as far as it needed to go. We already knew what really happened in Nibelhiem, there was even an anime of it.

So we've got an emo kid with crazy powers, some soldiers, and sparkly effects. Sounds like another character driven story of a boy struggling to find himself while wearing stylish clothing while he does it, because his soul is so tortured. I agree with Jei, needs moar Amano. Nomura is made of lol.

Before this thread my knowledge about the newest Final Fantasy games didn't go further as FFXII, FFXIII and Dirge of Cerberus.
I did hear about FFXIII Versus before, but I have no idea what the difference between the two versions are, so what is it?
And when does Crisis Core take place? Too bad it's only on PSP, i'd get it for PS3 if it would be possible. ...PS3 can't read PSP games can it?

                        Re: Final Fantasy Versus XIII

Final Fantasy XIII is the next installment in the traditional Final Fantasy series. It's produced by Yoshinori Kitase (FFVI, VII, VIII, X) and directed by Motomu Toriyama (Final Fantasy X-2). It'll feature a traditional battle system (or as traditional as it can get, with it looking even more unconventional than FFXII's battle system) and is exclusive to the PS3 and is scheduled for a late 2007/early 2008 release in Japan.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is a part of the overall "Fabula Nova Crystallis" Project ("The New Tale of the Crystal") which includes Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII, and Final Fantasy Agito XIII, among other unnanounced projects. All games are part of a single collection similar to the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII project. Unlike the FFVII project however, each game does not necessarily share story elements. They all follow a similar mythos, that of a Crystal legend, but can take place in different times or even universes.

Final Fantasy Versus XIII is an action-RPG produced by Yoshinori Kitase and directed by Tetsuya Nomura (Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Kingdom Hearts, Kingdom Hearts II). The gameplay should be fairly similar to Kingdom Hearts, although it'll likely be tailored to an older audience. FF Versus XIII is also exclusive to the PS3. It's currently in the pre-production phase and is not expected to be released in Japan before late in 2008 or even 2009.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII is the newest title in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII project and takes place some time before the events of Final Fantasy VII, around the time Cloud joined SOLDIER and met a man named Zack. Zack is the main character of the game, what can be made from the story so far is that it's about the defection of Sephiroth from SOLDIER as well as another powerful member of the force, who is rumoured to be Sephiroth's brother. It's exclusive to the PSP and will be released some time next year.

Japan's Jump Festa 2006 convention takes place later this month. Final Fantasy XIII will see a new trailer introducing new characters, gameplay and story elements. Final Fantasy Versus XIII might see a new trailer but at this point it's just rumoured. Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII will be playable and we may see additional details on Final Fantasy Agito XIII and Kingdom Hearts 2: Final Mix. A new Dragon Quest game is being announced tomorrow; it'll likely be at the festival as well.

                          Re: Final Fantasy Versus XIII

I would LOVE a new tactics game, or even an Amano designed character. Honestly, one of the reasons I hate SE's latest games is the style and stories of their RPGs. And they always show promise too. Take Kingdom Hearts:Chain of Memories. It's story showed a dark, mysterious organization bent on ruling the world one way or another. They seemed like an interesting group with dark sinister motives. Then KH2 came along....and I was totally underwhelmed. The story was horribly bland, AND Mary-Sue. The character designs, especially for Riku, sucked, and they had this whole mystery about Roxas....and he wasn't even intergral to the story.

Basically, I want more games like FFT, FFTA, FFIX, or FFXII

Judging by the quote at the beginning, the character design, and an assumption that the different XIII games will be telling parts of the same overall story, (edit: oh, and the title) I'm going to speculate that FF Versus XIII follow the path of an antihero in the XIII world, either the villian or someone aligned with the "bad guys," exploring his motives and the idea that the concepts of good and evil only exist in relation to one's own situation. Imo, a story like that would be shit hot as we say in the bizniss. Of course, that's all pure conjecture. It may well be trite cliche garbage like what dirtyclown said.
