Re: MTV- The Real Price of Virtual Gold
I saw it on TV...and keep in mind, that was WoW. I don't know how RMTing works there, but as I understand it the biggest problem in FFXI is NM claiming. The WoW farmer said they just killed the same monster over and over.Originally posted by Thott View Posthttp://www.mtv.com/overdrive/?id=154...ve/?id=1545907

Also, it sucks that they get ripped off by IGE. I don't support RMT, but these guys don't have a lot of options and they're barely getting a fraction of what their hours of work generates."In just refusing to retreat from something one gains the strength of two men" -Shungaku

Re: MTV- The Real Price of Virtual Gold
I was able to watch the video from Taipei, though it was choppy... It took about 1-2mins before the splash screen cut to the actual video page. The translations were pretty good in the subtitles. It's a very interesting look at conditions over there, assuming MTV is honest in their filming and journalism.

Edit: I found the last interview a little annoying. He's basically saying, if you see a GS, just leave them alone, since they won't leave the little area they're farming in. Unfortunately, I think that often interferes with "legitimate" farming. It would be even more ironic if the "little space" he was talking about were an NM camp.Character: Bricklayer

Re: MTV- The Real Price of Virtual Gold
interesting how their primary game is WoW tho. Because I heard a lot from WoW players that 1) Blizzard bans gilsellers almost immediately 2) money is almost useless giving gilsellers no reason to sell gil in the game. Apparently, those are not true it seems. There are painters who transform the sun into a yellow spot,

Re: MTV- The Real Price of Virtual Gold
#2 is true to a large extent, particularly for class-specific tiered equipment, of which 90% binds on pick-up and the other 10% is relatively cheap. In the past, the better mounts were (I believe) 900G. Since then, they have dropped the price to 90G, which dramatically lowers incentive to buy gold. Some enchantments, however, are VERY expensive, simply because the materials are in such high demand (Righteous Orb anyone?). Some consumables sell for a lot. But really, if you're running instances frequently, money should be the last of your problems in WoW. What I have started seeing on the TW servers is /shouts for buying leveling. For a certain amount of money, someone will level a character for you to 60, and leave you with about 1000G to start end-game with. Not sure if they provide tiered armor sets in the meanwhile. Probably not. Regardless, RMT is lame no matter how you slice it, be it in WoW or FFXI.Originally posted by Jei View Postinteresting how their primary game is WoW tho. Re: MTV- The Real Price of Virtual Gold
How many dollars did they say the industry is worth? What was that statement at the end of the segment? Eventually, RMT will be worth more than the games themselves. That seems fairly important.Character: Bricklayer

There's also supposed to be a group that does this for Xbox Live Achievements and the online Leaderboards.Originally posted by Bricklayer View PostFor a certain amount of money, someone will level a character for you to 60, and leave you with about 1000G to start end-game with. It would also explain how some pennyless noobs in this game - who claim to work 40 hours a week on top of college - can muster up 3 jobs to 75 in less than three months time with said jobs and college in play. And then somehow they've become really successful with gil.
