At least you have a good chance of not having retailers screw you over.

Right after launch day when retailers supposely sold out of stock suddenly online bundles are being announced.

Everything from HDTV bundles to 13 game/movie bundles.

And let's not forget the phantom counting that dropped somehow in the middle of it all.

Sure employees can't buy ps3s but a certain person standing there can, which just happens to be a friend or family member.

(I know, that's how my manager got his 3am in the morning)

Sony can't make enough to make it fair, but apperently we can't play fair as well.

Backwise. I'm not sure how the site counts, but definitelly not through public channels. Even the internal numbers aren't out yet due to the problem with 20gig and 60gig.

People that wanted one was offered the other, and if not, bundled in online distro, and vice versa. Basically numbers are screwly even internally among the retailers.

First-holiday launch numbers are never any proper way to judge the success of a console. It takes time to build up the library and get enough consoles shipped.

In one year, the Wii will have its major first year titles out of the gate: games like Metroid Prime 3 Corruption, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. At that time, the PS3 will have titles like Motorstorm, Grand Theft Auto IV, Devil May Cry 4 and Metal Gear Solid 4.

That's when we'll see which one is the real winner...even though I expect all three consoles to be quite successful this generation. My guess on the final sales? PS3 #1, Wii at a very close #2, and Xbox 360 at a slight #3. I don't think any console this generation will see massive PlayStation 2-style sales.

It's awesome to hear that the Wii is so good...I definitely will get one, but I'm buying a car right now...so can't worry about Wii atm. XD Zelda seems awesome, as does even Wii Sports...Trauma Center(on DS), so I should like it on Wii as well. Once I get some random extra money, I'll be buying a Wii with my employee Discount at work. :3

Why not buy a bunch of Wii's and attempt to build them into an actual working car? Seems cheaper. *shot*

I'm seeing very good signs for the Wii in the past few weeks. A lot of my friends, coworkers and acquaintances are unusually attracted to the Wii - even the ones who aren't typical gamers. Whether that attraction translates into sales remains to be seen, however.

I think it's still too early to do a projection for the winner at this point. I think we'll have a clearer view of who is winning the console wars in mid-2007, once supplies catch up with initial demand. It's not really initial sales that will win the battle for these consoles - it's how much of the overall market outside of the die-hard fans that each console will capture.

Xbox 360 has a lot of momentum, with a significant number of units already shipped. Feature-wise, it doesn't really have anything going for it aside from the (very cool) XBox Live! Marketplace.

PS3 remains an unknown quantity. There's really not enough of them out there yet to get a good read on how many will find their way into homes. I think Sony dropped the ball a lot in delaying the launch date so late into the year, but I think in about a year we'll be seeing some games rolling onto this platform that the other consoles won't be able to match technologically. Whether this is enough to convince the buying public that it's a superior product to the competition is the question.

The Wii's first and foremost strength is the unique controllers. It doesn't really have a lot to set it apart otherwise. Whether the appeal of unusual control styles turns into visible sales will depend greatly on what the public feels about long-term use of the controllers. While the control schemes are cool and fun now, will they remain so after we've seen 20 games that use them? Time will tell.

Don't know all I've got to say is the more I read of the PS3 the more I'm loving it. I mean the Sixaxis Controllers just seem awsome can use them wired or wireless. Unlike the XBox 360 controllers were when the battery goes dead have to replace the batteries, the PS3 if a battery is dead then you go wired with the controller and can keep playing and the controller gets recharged at the same time.

Then being able to use the PS3 to copy old PS1 games on it's HDD and then copy them over to the PSP to play on that just seems really cool to me. Or even have the PS3 feed the information of the currently running game to the PSP so instead of the TV and PS3 controller you are just using the PSP.

So many different possibilities to do with it. I personally can't wait till I got the money for it. Not to mention PS3 can run 7 controllers vs. XBox 360's 4 controllers. (Wouldn't think it by seeing the Sixaxis controller having only 4 lights at top, but past 4 controllers it lights up 4 and another. For example 4+1 = 5, 4 +2 = 6, 4+3 = 7).

Can just imagine what kind of madness my friends and I could do if we got 7 players going instead of 4.

Forgot to add can stuff the 8th somewere in the closet with the PSP to have fun playing some PS1 game too. >.>

This is untrue. The Xbox 360 will recharge the batteries when you plug it in while you are playing. We have had a 360 since the day it was out and never had to replace the batteries. We just keep having to replace the games because most of them aren't very good!

Lol, then I'm missing something on my brother XBox 360. We've been constantly replacing the batteries, haven't seen and didn't notice anywere to recharge it.

Maybe I should refrase. If that open slot in front of the controller is were it charges then you're forced to propriatery piece of **** cord to connect it to power it up. The PS3 Sixaxis makes it very clear that a standardized USB cord can be used which I personally like a lot more since the cord isn't stuck to a single use function (Also I have like 20 USB cords sitting around hooked to printers or other devices that are hardly used I can borrow it off of easily).

Even more intresting aspect is the potential the PS3 controllers could be used on PCs too. Devices that are more module like that I really like a lot more then ones trying to propriaties.

It's mainly because the Wii doesn't cost half of the human anatomy to purchase.

Unfortunately, all my PS3 controller does when I connect it to my PC is charge.

I guess that's still a good thing, since I can charge my controllers when my PS3 isn't running. The PC recognizes the device but does not detect any input, so I'd imagine it'd take a driver of some sort to allow the Sixaxis to be used on a PC.

I guess I'm left with just a quarter of my anatomy now that I've bought both, but the Wii and the PS3 are definitely worth the money they cost.

Needing a driver is something I did expect would be needed. The fact that the PC recongized it as a device is proof enough that the potential is there. The driver would tell the PC what to do with the device, otherwise the PC is receiving info but it has no clue how to translate.

The only other thing about the Sixaxis controller that I don't quite get yet, is the description makes it sound like it operates in 3D space like the Wii controller does. Which is a surprise to me I hadn't heard that part about it anywere else before.

There are drivers and adapters for the Dual Shock 2 controller so I wouldn't be surprised if someone came up with drivers for the ps3 controller.

At some point, I would like to buy all three systems. The Wii is probably at the top of that list, but the wife and I plan to get a DS Lite or two before we get a new console.

In all honesty, if you're not dying for a PS3 right now, it's certainly not worth it at the moment. There are plenty of people like me who'll certainly buy and love it for the next few months, but the first major wave of titles comes in March, and by Winter 2007 it'll have enough AAA titles to make it really worthwhile.

Personally I'd say focus on grabbing a 360 now. The PS3 may be getting some good titles in March but in Spring/Summer 2007, it's the time for the Xbox 360 to shine. After that, focus on grabbing a PS3, since Wii is fairly inexpensive and really doesn't take much worry to pick up as a result. In addition, unless you're a huge fan of the casual style games that have been showing up on the DS lately, the Wii doesn't really have that much to look forward to next year aside from first party titles like Mario Galaxy and Smash Bros. Granted, not much has yet been announced, but I think it's safe to say that the Wii will be seeing a little bit of downtime in terms of major blockbuster titles during the spring/early summer.
