The Arcana grimoire (the urn, right?) doesn't require all the others. I got it before I even unlocked a couple of the grimoires.
Personally I found quite a nice increase in drops with the grimoires in hand. When hunting the bird people in the Feywood, I get 2-3 windslicer pinions per enemy. They're pretty much required to get reasonable drop rates on the rarer loot, like gems and such. I got up to chain 50 on an enemy without one cancer gem drop; after getting the correct grimoire, I got three of them by chain 15. If you're tight on cash right now, just find out which grimoire is which online, and buy the one you need for the mob you're currently farming.
