      Re: FF12 first impressions

All of my characters are 26 or 27. Penelo rocks at that level. She is may mage, blm, whm, time, green. She does it all. And she seems to have the highest MP of anyone. THey are all good in the areas that I have them in. Vaan and Basch tank, Balty and Fran are ranged, and Penelo WHM. Ashe is all around, she can tank and does a lot of curing when necessary. I am constantly switching party members to keep different people working together, so I don't get complacent with only 1 order of people. This seems to help both in leveling and boss battles, cause you never really know who is going to die and need quick replacement.

I haven't lost a boss battle yet, though not sure if it is because of everyone but Penelo having level 3 quickening, or I am just lucky.

The quickenings are seeming to get harder as time goes on. Hoping to get some really killer damage some day.

I definitely agree...as far as everything but armor goes, I believe the License board makes sense...like who wouldn't know how to just put on a piece of armor? But being able to use a weapon correctly makes sense, along with abilities/magic...but armor...yea XD

They can give you things as non-sense as the red cards in FFTA. License isn't too bad compare to that.

I really didn't mind the whole law thing, until I got one of my best Characters jailed an boss fight and wasnt playing attention to the laws at the time.

I guess that's true ._. I wish I could've just turned off the penalties in TA like I do when I play soccer games. ; ; And licenses really aren't too bad, but just after reading the above comic, it does make them feel quite silly. XD

                  Re: FF12 first impressions

I love FF12, but I wish there was more customability as far as characters. I HATE Penelo's hairstyle, but meh. I have my characters set up like this:

Vaan: Paladin style with 3 Black Magick spells and Haste
Balthier:Dark Knight Style. Plenty of Black Magick, and strong ATK
Fran:Red Mage style, balance in everything
Ashe:Long Range Healer, uses a Bow and Green Magick as well
Penelo:Same as Ashe, execpt she uses a Gun
                  Basch: Pure melee with Cure

I like how you could customize your character's roles, but I wish there were more cosmetic changes.

                    Re: FF12 first impressions

The License Board only really matters for the first 50 levels or so. After that, you basically have all the points you'll ever need - my characters are level 55 now, and on several occasions I've found that I wanted them to wear something different, and just opened the License menu to buy it for them.

All my characters have 2000+ extra points banked and nowhere significant to place them now, since they have all augmentations, most spells, most armor and all of their weapons of choice. I expect if I push them up to level 60, I'll have enough points to buy every available license grid box on every character.

You're all so lucky as to actually have your hands on this game. I still have to wait 3 months or so to be able to play it. /sigh However, I've been kinda naughty and looked ahead at a lot of cutscenes and FMVs (damn you youtube!) - I definately like the look of FF12 - seems pretty much reminiscent of FF11 of course.

I'm not too sure if I will like the battle system that much though - watching the videos of some people it looks fairly hectic and unorganised, but maybe that's just the player. I don't know what to make of the gambit system either, I guess I will just have to wait and see.

Oh, also, I've seen quite a few boss fights, and they've all seemed to go down relatively easy and much faster than I expected (having heard 12 was supposed to be a very hard instalment). Is this true for you guys?

It always looks a little confusing, but when you actually play it, the battle system is very intuitive and fun.

And the difficulty of the bosses can vary. Early on, they're quite tough, because you don't have much in terms of spells and augmentations. After a while though, you can cast Haste + Bravery + Berserk on your characters and end some boss fights in under a minute. I just had Basch kill a boss almost singlehandedly, without losing more than 1000 HP. Although these have mostly been smaller bosses; I haven't fought a big, end-of-dungeon boss or Esper in a while.

Oh, and once again: This game is beautiful.

There's a lot more to armor than wearing it. Try putting on some half-plate, picking up a nice sized shield and fighting.

There's not as much technicality with armor as with weapons but you still have to learn how to fight in it. It requires proficiency more than knowing which limb goes where.

Many tanks to Trita/Tagi for the signature.

I play my fantasy RPGs for the realism too.

Not that I'm saying I disagree with the License Board. I think it works for the system they have in place.

Anyone else had to deal with bombs? I thought I was okay setting gambit on Fran to use Fire ... but then a second bomb aggro'd (I guess from casting) and then the first one self destructed and almost wiped the party (But Balthier lived) That was a serious pain in the rear.

I'm in the Barheim Passage. Like, only level 8 and these bombs come out to play. OMG

Turn off your magic gambits while you're near arcana (bombs, elementals, etc.). Just as in FFXI, they won't aggro you as long as you don't use magic near them. If you have to heal someone, set a Potion gambit instead.
