OK, now there maybe be very few like me, but personally, I was growing very tired of the standard RPG system. Run around a dungeon and do random battles, wait for tiring load screen before each fight, stop and select minor attacks and such for advance ment in combat and dealing with every minor detail of each fight, hear the same cliche battle music, etc. I was also growing very tired of the rehashed theme music in general.
Then FF12 comes out. Now I could be slightly Biased. I used to be an avid FFXI player, I'm a Huge fan of the Vagrant Story and Final Fantasy tactics, and I absolutely love Akihiko Yoshida and Hiroshi Minagawa's artistic styles. May I say, what a powerful, and well balanced walk on the edge of taking a franchise, that in my opinion was severely suffering from overly used tired themes and systems, and creating something that can truely be considered, a great homogenization of what truely great and compeling games are made of.
The plot is filled with powerful undertones, and creative plot twists. The music is very well suited to the games image and style. The characters are well thought out and very easy to understand and the voice actors, in my humble opinion, were very well chosen for the english adaption. The European, accents are kind of niche but hey, what would you rather have, a Jamaican, or Asian accent? how about nice southern accent and we can have all the imperials running around screamin " Make way Yall, the govner's a comin!" I've read alot of reviews complaining about the voice adaptions and I simply fail to see what there complaining about. The empire appears by all looks and Appearances to be very European.
and now for my favorite parts "The battle System" and "Class Development System" aka Liscencing. Awsome, well thought out, challenging and great for all types. It's has a slight learning curve but anyone with a recordable IQ can figure it out with the ver, easy to understand tutorials. Your characters are completely customizable with the liscencing system, allowing you to have complete control over your play style. The battle system is also very fun and unique. Gambits allow you to focus actions in the party, and can be changed on the fly, as the menu system can be accessed at anytime during battle. Some will find this reduces the challenge, as you can fix any errors, in equipment or character AI, durring battle rather than tediously prep all your characters before each fight. My favorite use for gambits right now is LP/gil/level grinding. Just plunk your characters in a zone you know they can handle and just let them go to town. No more annoying hours of grinding, having to watch every minor repetive event unfold as you, pretty much, just tap X over and over, telling your character to attack over and over, and having to heal outside of every battle "over and over". Also if you want the extra challenge of micromanaging each and every character, you can just simply turn the gambits off.
This was definetly worth wait, and in my opinion truely lived up to it's hype.
Anyone else get thrashed the first time they fought the flaming horse boss?
