Re: Best RPG's of all time!

I remember Legend of Gaia, but Seiken Densetsu III blows it away, IMO (SD3 for the unfamiliar is the JP Famicom sequel to Secret of Mana). In fact...I think I'll take a break from FFXI and play that...right now!

Re: Best RPG's of all time!

Lol, I played at least 90% of the games mentioned here, loved them all equally.

A few I think not mentioned:

        Robotek
7th saga (highly underrated for it's time imo)
kungfu bros? I think it was lol
        Swords and Serpents
Wizardry V: Heart of the Maelstrom
        Wild arms
        Bards Tale
        FF: mystic quest
Originial DW is still the greatest classic of them all, along with FF1 and ultima.
        Mario Rpg (oh yeah baby!)
Princess tomato and the salad kingdom? (lmao)
        Rygar
        Adams family: Festers revenge
        Ogre Battle
        Star Tropics

        Then the repeats:

        Chrono series
        FF series (all)
        Phantasy Star series
        Lunar
        Secret of mana
        Legend of Gaia
        Kingdom Hearts
        Shining force serieis
        Suikoden series
        The Magic of Scheherazade
        Valkryie Profile
        DW/DQ series
        Zelda series

Grrrr there's so many I forget them all. When I was young, I had this infatuation with beating a game before it was allowed to go back to the rental shop. After some time, the rental stores had no more RPG's available for me to play that I hadn't yet. All I listed I played and 99% certain I beat. It's been so g/d long.

I rarely if ever purchased a game, let alone rpg. Generally I would beat them in a few days to a week, then move on to the next. There was no use purchasing any games playing like that.

However, I did purchase DW 2, 3, and 4. When they got into semi customization mode (character job customization IE sage job), I started to dig that. That gave some replay value.

IF I had to pick a shortened list, which is hard for me, I'd say that FF2 original SNES with drk cecil, FF3, 7th saga, Zelda 3, and DW 3/4 where the landmark classics for me.

This list of course excludes the strat sims I got into like:

        Gemfire
        RTK series
        Shogun Shin something or other
        Aerobiz series
        Ganghis Kahn series
        Nobunga's Ambition series
        Inindo
        (I"m sure there's a ton more I can't think of atm)

Tactics Ogre has always been one of my favorites, Let us Cling Together and The Knight of Lodis being tops. The Seiken Densetsu series also stands out in my mind as being consistent WIN. So glad the original creator got the rights to it from SE so they couldn't butcher it. Has anyone managed to get a copy of Star Ocean for the Super Nintendo? I found a translated rom a long time ago and had a blast with it, almost as fun as SO2.

Can't believe I forgot that one. One of my favorites from when I was a kid. Spent almost an entire summer with it back in the day, never managed to get all the jewels though. D:

                  1: Planescape Torment.
The game was just the bomb...

After that.. in a kinda more random order:
                  - FFVIII
                  - Fallout
                  - NWN
                  - Zelda - Ocarina of Time
                  - Hired Guns
                  - EoB series
                  - Dungeon Master/Chaos Strikes Back
                  - Captive

                  That'll do for now. ^^

I only got a chance to play Suikoden IV, and couldn't stop making fun of the main character's bike shorts long enough to really enjoy it. I did want to play the third one though, because I saw a few screens of it and there was a duck named Sergeant Joe. Ducks win. Other than that, I haven't been able to find any copies of the games anywhere. Most of the gamers where I live are Halo 2 fanatics, so the inventory of the local game stores reflect that.

Re: Best RPG's of all time!

FF7-11 and 3 from SNES and tactics
                        Diablo 2
                        Resident Evil 2-3
Mario RPG (SNES) my first ever rpg played
Zelda: A link to the Past
                        Kingdom Hearts
Wizardy (NES verisions) at one point, this was all the rpg that I had to play. Its fun as hell when its all you got.
                        Shining Force
                        Disgaea

Throughout the ages these are the most enjoyable RPG games I have escaped to like an ostrich with its head in the sand. I enjoy RTS about as much as I like playing RPGs and some of them are very RPG like. I most enjoyed the Dune, Warcraft/Starcraft, and Command and Conquer series of all.

Right now I am playing VP: Lenneth on PSP, its really cool.

lol...you only played Suikoden IV, IV is easily the worst game in the series, if you want to try it at any time, check out II or III if you can find it, and V if the other two are unavailable...lolIV

                              For me, my favorites are;
                              Chrono Trigger
                              Final Fantasy Tactics
                              Final Fantasy X
                              Suikoden II, and III
                              Kingdom Hearts I and II
                              Shin Megami Tensei:Nocturne
                              Persona
                              Zelda
                              Grandia II
                              Star Ocean 2 and 3

And I know there're more, but those are the top ones, cause they're what I thought of first :3
