    http://www.mmogchart.com/Chart7.html

This is an interesting look at the current state of MMOG marketshare. Some numbers are very surprising (runescape over FFXI) while others are not (WoW). Though I suppose since this is global marketshare something could be immensely popular in Asia and I'd never hear about it.

And please don't turn this into a WoW Rulez, FFXI Suckz thread (such posts will be promptly deleted).

    Thanks Yyg!

Amazing...... I honestly dont understand how WoW has that Huge market penetration. I play both games, and i will not start that nonsense thing of what is better than what. I am just curious on how blizzard has managed to make this. I have been on "que" to play given the mass amount of people on the servers.

In an objective point of view, I guess it has to do with Blizzard being a US based company and SE being japanese. Blizzard has a larger potential market and Japan. what are your thoughts?

Blizzard games are IMMENSELY popular in asia. In S Korea, the Starcraft champion makes a salary of ~1 million dollars a year. It's brand recognition that peaks people's interest, then the nice learning curve/progression that holds them past the 30 trial. least that's my take on it.

WoW was surely easiler to register and play globally. FFXI is limited to 3 regions in a sense. north ameruca, japanese, europe. A lot of Thai players who important FFXI just had to use fake address as oppose to WoW where they can use their real addess. Not to mentioned credit card is easier accepted with WoW too.

Well... yes you guys are right. I am still shocked about the Starcraft champion!!! Wow!!!! I have been a huge blizzard fan ever since Warcraft 1 and i still play WarCraft III Frozen thone from time to time on battlenet! But when it comes to WoW and FFXI, i still prefer FFXI. and i honestly dont know why. WoW is easier and such, but that is another topic.

The question is.... does SE want to be as huge as that? How long will out community last? How do you forsee the future?

honestly, I don't see SE drawing in huge numbers like that with any of their current games.

                Thanks Yyg!

Yeah i agree...they need more games with online play but they also need to be good and get the players involved in the game(like FFXI)

I guess we can consider ourselves a "nich" market or a very loyal userbase for FFXI?

                          Re: MMOG Chart

Wow beats all others (or so they say) because its much more accessible, its much more "mainstream" than other games, FFXI is a bit too innovative and many players dont like how the game plays, the horrible grinding, the having to depend on others to achieve the simplest of tasks, most people want faster gratification than FFXI is able to offer.

I'm sure if Ragnarok Online was in the chart, it'd beat Wow by a long shot.

Then again maybe not.. but im sure it would surprise everyone.

agreed....i think even though it takes a long time to do many things this game is very much worth the time and effort....
