      Re: MMOG Chart

I played WoW for about 4-5 months, and had a level 60 paladin. The game was ok, but end game stuff gets kind of old unless you like doing the same raid OVER AND OVER AND OVER for 5 hours a day to hopefully get 1 item out of ur 40 raid members. Plus, the game is so buggy, alot of people never really get to play it. There is so many stupid errors that happen after patches that mess some peoples games up, and others have no problems. Blizzard always blames it on your hardware, but some people will play it for 2 years, and then a new patch come out, like the most recent one, and a couple of thousand of people cant play. So why do people still play? I just sold my account and copy to a personal friend, and im hoping to pick up FFXI....Blizzard FTW

just for the record, i never played a MMO before FFXI - lol.

Neither had I. I'm not sure that it was necessary to bump the thread to say that though.

I wasn't trying to bump anything. I was simply stating something.

was that worth bumping this topic!?

It's not called bumping an old topic when the last post was 10 minutes previous.

Anyway, I wasn't really trying to start anything. I just don't see the need to bump older topics when you aren't going to add anything to the conversation.

Whatever! Any topic I post something in, you have something negative to say about my post.

And I fail to see how this:

adds to the topic besides "bumping" the topic.

And for the record, I added something to the topic by stating that since you said most people that havent played a MMO before chose wow, i just wanted to say that i chose FFXI.

This is not true. If you have some links to post where I'm commenting negatively on everything you say, please send them via PM. Otherwise, don't make slanderous comments.

And I was replying to you. But you didn't get my meaning, so I spelled it out for you. And you still didn't get it.

In the end it doesn't matter. We've wasted several posts discussing a completely pointless topic. If you have anything further to say, send me a PM, thanks.

                              FFXI > WoW

                              There's no argument really.

But since Neighbortaru already warned people about XI vs WoW discussions it isn't wise to talk about that.

                              Oh, crap!

This is an interesting look at the current state of MMOG marketshare. Some numbers are very surprising (runescape over FFXI) while others are not (WoW). Though I suppose since this is global marketshare something could be immensely popular in Asia and I'd never hear about it.
WoW has gotten a lot of popularity due to the reasons outlined below:

-Area specific servers. While FFXI is unique by allowing different regional players to play on the same server, the world is not ready for this idea just yet (You can immediately find complaints of racial discrimination on any thread about this subject) You can bet many of the Japanese players playing WoW on their specific servers are a lot more happy overall than the players playing FFXI...

-Accessibility. Opening up the game with a gradual curve makes it easy for both 60 year old and 10 year old players to get into the game. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing from a social perspective, but from a mass-appeal game perspective, that's a no-brainer win-win solution in my book.

-Casual Friendly. Yes, it's nice to actually log in, do something for only 10 minutes and log out. No need to LFG for 5 hours and be disappointed with not finding anything else to do. No mine points camped 24/7 or some exp party camping on you (At least not on PvE servers w/o the worry about corpse camping like on PvP servers) Crafting is less of a pain (Gathering mats for a recipe is the more difficult challenge) Bottom line, it's what majority of the working class family in America is looking for when they need an "escape" that does not interfere with their IRL.

-Cheap. $15 for a plethora of characters across different realms for a flat fee. No hassles with having to pay additional money for muling.

Many Koreans and Thai players are playing WoW and it's also popular in China, Taiwan and Singapore as well. The appeal doesn't end there as it goes into both Americas and Europe. It's even starting to penetrate Middle East as some players (Like Israel) are playing WoW.

Someone said that the number of 5.5 million is fake. Get a grip. It's real enough and I think Blizzard's being conservative. The subscription is up near 7 million I believe.

Also, most of their money went to Vivendi, their parent company and Oracle, that maintains their massive databases. Kinda sucks having to be at the mercy of your capital investors and data manager. >.>
