I already have 360 and I'm planning on getting the Wii when it launches.

What Sony is doing with the PS3 is ridiculous, they haven't shown anything that is worth paying $600 for.
That's not even the real price because when you go pick it up you are going to want at least an extra controller and a game or two and with taxes, look to spend nearly $800 because they wanted to use PS3 as a trojan horse for their Blu-Ray technology.

And that's just in the States look at what the UK is going to have to pay for the system alone.

Here's a highlight for those that can't see it:

Sony Computer Entertainment UK has confirmed that the retail price of the 60GB PlayStation 3 is currently planned to be £425 ($799) in the UK

There is no guarantee that the cheaper 20GB console will be launched in the UK. "The lower-end 20GB version of PlayStation 3 has no Wi-Fi, no HDMI, and none of the other slots in it, so it's really a question of where we would position it. It's more likely that we will only launch the 60GB version"

It's blantantly obvious that they don't care about what Blu-Ray can do for games and are more interested in making a profit.

They are arrogant enough to say that 5 million will buy it even if it didn't have games.

Everything about what they have been doing recently is stupid, I find myself having a hard time getting excited over Sony's new "game" system.

That's what I was talking about when I said they are using PS3 as a Trojan horse for their Blu-Ray technology. By having a Blu-Ray player in the PS3, that helps ease Blu-Ray into the mainstream where they are hoping to topple dvd as the next widely accepted form of media storage.

Sony is thinking about itself, not about gamers by adding this in. What does a Blu-Ray do without anything to play? No Blu-Ray movies out and by the time it becomes mainstream, and if it becomes mainstream, by that time the regular players will cost less then a PS3.

Why would anyone want to pay for something they can't use for years later anyway?

The only thing Blu-Ray has over dvd is better compression, dvd still has quality visuals and sound, Blu-Ray won't improve it by much. Even if it did, you'd need a better and more expensive tv to utilize it.

Sony is trying to use their popularity and the PS3 to jumpstart the next leap in storage media in order to get huge profits from manufactures using their HDD technology for media. That is how they are going to make profits, and they want to do it at our expense.

I had enough of a hard time paying $400 alone for a damn game system and Sony wants me to pay $600 for a system who's main reason for such a big pricetag is a feature that I won't even be able to use until years from now?

wii doesnt interest me. remote is a gimmick. its like buying a toy rather than a video game system

as lame as sony is for their ps3 controller, the ps3 is exciting. ffxiii, mgs4, madden 07, all look amazing and the blu ray player, "playstation live" service for free, ect. for those complaining about the price, you have alot of time between now and november to save up money!whining wont lower the price

I stopped buying Nintendo consoles when they stopped producing quality. Wow, another Super Smash Brothers, a new Mario Party, and a new obnoxious way to play them. ADHD has never been so fun!

And the Xbox 360? Let's have this neat network where players can join up in multiplayer fun, but release games that aren't worth playing online, and then charge them for it! We'll give them this BS number called a Gamerscore that's somehow supposed to earn them more street cred on the back alleys of the internet!

You're lucky to be living under your parents house with a disposable income. Between home, medical, and car insurance, paying for my house, the water bill, the electric bill, the gas bill, internet bill, cell phone bill and the cost of GASOLINE, car loans etc etc etc.

$200 is a good price
$300 is acceptable
$400 is getting there
$500 is hard to swallow
$600 IS JUST TOO MUCH

And not only that but to get the most of of the next gen systems you'll need an HDTV add in the cost of games, and accessories.

No matter what you do to get the money, whether you're saving from here until launch day, or if you choose to blow your entire paycheck on it. It's STILL gonna cost that much. Most young adults who game are living paycheck to paycheck as it is. I'd consider myself to be well off and even I think $600 is expensive.

Fact of the matter is there is virtually NO LEAP IN GRAPHICS CAPABILITY between the PS3 and XBOX360. NONE. The GPUs in PS3 and X360 are based on ATI and nVidia GPUs and in the PC GPU market the performance difference between an ATI and nVidia card is less then 1%. Anyone here with any knowledge of PC gaming can back me up on that.

What we're paying for is Blu-ray. The size of the media has no bearing on the length of the game. So why the need for it? FFXI is 6-7GB which can easily fit on a DVD-9. Anyone want to make an argument that FFXI is a short game?

DVD is still going strong and at this point in time no one knows for sure if Blu-ray or HD-DVD will win out. You could very well be buying Beta-Max 2 in the PS3's Blu-ray function.

Susurrus and Sokarr are my heroes, they echo my thoughts completely about this. We are paying for things that we dont even need and probably wont need for a while. i mean really 50 GIGS? What the hell are you gonna put in there thats even gonna near 10? The prices for other places outside America are even more expensive, and with that you rather get a new computer or upgrade your old one...and i mean totally upgrade it.

I look at my credit card bills every month (thats excluding cash transactions and other MISC stuff) and i already throw up...why the hell wouldnt i looking at the PS3? Thats like 1/3 of our family's spendings...*commits seppuku* :x

EDIT: To the above post, while we do not know how well these new unreleased consoles will be, there is one general language that we all can understand, and thats the green dollar bill, and its universal to all consoles released or not :x Everyone has gotta admit that 600 dollars is not a small ammount of money and its a real downer for most.

Yeah, I know how you feel. I almost posted an entire thesis length post based on how video games are being systematically dumbed down for the mainstream market, but then I realized I have an important cup of coffee that needs to be drank instead.

never thought I'd see it, but a few of the game mags actuall think Nintendo has a chance to be number 1 again with the new system.

I'm buying a Wii first and later on a PS3, I could care less about the XBox unless the hoard up all the new Mechwarrior games.

I think the Wii has a possibility to do better than the PS3 but only for a limited amount of time. Eventually people will see the games that come out for the PS3 and want to play them. Then they'll dig deep or whip out those credit cards and finally cave and buy one. I think the PS3 will come out on top eventually but remains to be seen is if its Blue Ray does or not. I personally think that is where the real "war" is at.
