There are patents for the littlest things and if you use something that resembles it in your product you can be sued. They used a feature the closely resembled a patent that another company had. It went to court, the judge said "Yep that sure does look like your patent.", and Sony had to stop using it or pay BIG bucks to use it. They also had to pay a nice fine, restitution, and court costs. They lost their asses. But thats why you're seeing this new controller with this new feature. They had to replace rumble with something! Or what were they going to do? Go back to the lowly PS1 controllers? LOL

Yeah but dude, they could of just made it vibrate a different way.

Don't you get how stupid this is?

      EVERYTHING NOWADAYS VIBRATES

      Cell phones
      Other game controllers
      Baby toys
      "Adult" toys
Hell there's games in arcades that shake
      And a hell a lot a other a stuff a too.

      I mean, SERIOUSLY.

Sony, unless PSM lies, said themselves that they took the vibration out because it interfered with the motion crap.

Shit, they're just stealing that idea from Nintendo anyway. Why doesn't Nintendo just sue them?

Actually, it's not like the Wii's the first thing to have motion sensing anyway. Why don't the garage-door-remote people sue Nintendo? Hell why doesn't Tron just sue everyone? Hell, it was out before that anyway! Tron's a movie so it has nothing to do with it, I just thought I'd throw it in.

You see where this is going? It's just plain stupid, and I'm not getting the PS3 because they totally ruined it.

Besides, PC's got everything the consoles got, and more, like mods and porn.

      I mean seriously.

      Double Post Edited:
I totally just came up with a new monster concept, I'll post it in my monster concept topic.

Yeah, it is stupid, but when there is money to be made, someone is going to sue.

Perrin, Xband was an addition to games similar in the way Game Genie was used.

I'm too tired to comment on the other aspects but there is bullshittery going on in all the major companies. Nintendo is the most passed over victim of this, and the gaming majority still accepts Link, Mario, Samus and Fox as their personal favorites.

As to why Nintendo won't truly take a risk, I don't care to answer.

Microsoft rips everything from Sony, puts a nice sheen on it, talks down on Sony and tries to pass off shit as shinola.

Sony is heavy-handed, proprietary centric and ultimately makes consumers pay the most for ideas that aren't implemented to the fullest.

Nintendo keeps hand-feeding up rehashes, and no one calls them on "innovation"

I don't care how much "fun" you "thought" you had with Mario Sunshine, Mario has been around since the mid-eighties.

It's ironic that the same people who complain about sequels and follow ups of FPSs, Racing games, Action Adventure games and even RPGs will be the first in line for the "new" Zelda or the "new" Mario.

But then again, it's also sad that without the same rehashed icons, Nintendo won't be able to relate to their fans, so they wouldn't move units. Nostalgia, it seems, is s gift and a curse.

But I have Square-Enix to keep me warm at night, so I don't really mind either way >.>

Eff the consoles, I'm buying based on SE.

yeah I did forget to mention that I am NOT on a fanboy fence. Was just stating that there were a lot of ideas in the past that just couldn't come into full fruition back in the day. Now they are being tried again.

I really do hope the Wii succeeds. I'd hate to see Mario on XBox only, because truth is... I'd buy one then. The only reason I dislike the XBox is because they with held games that were hyped up for us PC gamers to sell more units. Sure it worked, but I didn't like it one bit.

With any luck we will get down to 2 consoles again eventually. Its time for innovation. I could care less if Barry Bonds has 42 more active sweat glands in this years incarnation of MLB or whatever. I want a fun game. PERIOD.

Hopefully Nintendo delivers, if they can win with lower graphics and cheaper games, that would be great. The other 2 would be forced to drop the price points for software and hardware that much quicker. It would also ensure that future consoles won't spike as high.

I don't think people are tired of those kind of games... and if they are that's fine. I enjoy those games becaue generally they are awesomely made and contain alot of great gameplay. If you haven't noticed Nintendo is taking the most risks with their consoles outside of the graphics department. The Wii will use new motion senesing technology and other innovative things like Connect24... This will bring MMORPGS to new levels.

But then again, it's also sad that without the same rehashed icons, Nintendo won't be able to relate to their fans, so they wouldn't move units. Nostalgia, it seems, is s gift and a curse.

            1. Brain Training, Animal Crossing, and Nintendogs all say hello. Sure Mario, Zelda, and Pokemon are cash cows but so are the ones listed above... They all have sold over a million copies in Japan alone. 2 million plus around the world I believe. Nintendogs has sold 6 million copies around the world. Nintendo easily creates new and fun franchises and sells the hell out of them.

            2. If you want to talk about Nostalgia usage and rehashing things look no further then your precious Square-Enix. I love Square-Enix just as much as everyone else on these boards but they do know how to milk their series. They have re-released pretty much all of their Final Fantasies... They had the Playstation versions and now the portable versions... then they had all those international version of FFX in Japan. Look at Final Fantasy XIIi that sucker is going to have 3 different versions. The Final Fantasy VII Compilation series is another perfect example of milking something. Their games might be fun but they still rely on the Final Fantasy series as well as Dragon Quest...

I wonder why they didn't just pay for usage of the patent like microsoft did. They could have had both tecnologies.

Example. Aiming like in Metal Gear Solid. You would fisically have to aim, but the vibrations would try to mess you up.

I guess the changes from Mario 1 and 3 is just all in my head. The overhead map, the flying, inventory for your power ups to be used later. Being able to back track and non-linear stages, the puzzles.

                All in my mind.

Mario Party being a seperate series from the main one, with the Party part denoting simple mini-games for a Party?

As for remakes.. well it IS a remake. The explaination is self evident.

Or maybe the Zelda game where you collect a mystical item at the end of a dungeon. until you have a full set of 8.

Or 3 in the first world and 7 in the next.
You just described pretty much every game. I guess you should quit playing now, you played it once you played it all right?

The most innovative thing Nintendo did in terms of gaming was Metroid FPS and Pikmin. Mario, Zelda, Starfox. . . all the same games we've been essentially playing since our wee ages.
You're right, Pole Position on the Atari, Ridge Racer on the Playstation. all the same games we've been essentially playing since our wee ages. Ferrari, Hyundai.. same thing, they both have 4 wheels.

And I, for the record, remember Mario. I remember my mom getting the UBER NES PACKAGE that came with Mario 3, the light gun, 2 controllers and every goddamned thing you required to play at the ultra-super level.

I remember watching my sister duck down and hide behind the backgrounds and get 3 whistles on the first stage and instantly warping to the end. It's not hard to remember these thing, especially when we revisit them every 5 years.
And this has any bearing on the subject of innovation.. how? You were born in 1987, you'll never understand the innovation because you'd never had the chance to experience these games as they were in the context of the era when they were released. Just like you'll never consider Pole Position to be a realistic racing game, but we did when it was a new game. Yes, we did believe Pole Position to have realistic graphics at the time.

Maybe the formula works for some people: Familiar and rehashed characters, revamped worlds.
REHASH: To bring forth again in another form without significant alteration

THIS IS NOT PHOTOSHOPPED FOLKS! CLEARLY THERE IS NO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES.

I, for one, get tired of seeing Link save Zelda. . . from Ganon. . . Over and over.
Ah so innovation is changing names.

Not the actual game play, new puzzles new world to explore etc.

                Silly me.

Let's change Zelda to Sally and Link to Bob and GANON to Steve.

                BOOM! INNOVATION!

Must be very hard for you to watch a movie knowing the protagonist always wins at the end.

The boy was the Hero of Time, you'd think he'd learn his lesson and move to a different nation.
Or he can just change his name to Bob. BAM! INNOVATION

DC had online services. As for your origianl question...NES, Genesis, SNES and N64 all had expansion capability.

Nintendogs, Brain-train, the nun-chuck controller. Ah, those aren't risk, those are gimmicks.

Microsoft rips everything from Sony, puts a nice sheen on it, talks down on Sony and tries to pass off shit as shinola.
And Sony rips everything off from Nintendo. The VB controller, the diamond layout, the crosshair, shoulder buttons, analogue stick, force feedback...The Dog Happy Life.

Maybe you should look up the definition of rehash and innovate?

Your point being? And the micro-computer has been around since the 60s, cars have been around since the early 20th century.

I agree with Sokarr on a good amount of that, except on a few things.

I'm not even going to bother to argue, I just got one thing to say for now...

Why bother arguing? I mean what I'm about to say might offend some people, and the people it offends are the fanboys:

We didn't make the stupid consoles, so why go out of our way to defend them?

I mean really, Sony stole from Nintendo, Microsoft stole from Sony, they all stole from the George Foreman Grill, Nintendo has a patent on gay, Microsoft's money hungry, Sony shoots for the sky but then gets shot down, Martha Stewart is a gangster, no consoles let you make mods or do anything PC does so SERIOUSLY.

I care about the upcoming console wars. Not because I want any particular side to win but it will be a good time in general for gaming I hope.

Reminds me of the old SNES vs. Genesis console war, alot of good games came out of that.

Oh and I hope the other systems will play FFXI as well so we can keep getting a steady flow of new players, breathing new life on to the servers.

FF is the same game. It's always about some king or emperor who wants to control or obtain elemental based crystals to rule the world. Or some madman who wants to be god-like. You lvl up go to the main villain's secret dungeon base and save the world. Same ole same ole, right?

FF is the same game. It's always about some king or emperor who wants to control or obtain elemental based crystals to rule the world. Or some madman who wants to be god-like. You lvl up go to the main villain's secret dungeon base and save the world. Same ole same ole, right?
I'm sure you never meant to be referred to as a fanboy, but using your very own method of generalization I can easily label you as a fanboy, as well as several other titles. It's alright if you played through the Final Fantasy series and couldn't pinpoint the subtle differences between them. I remeber the first time I ran around Balamb Garden and thought to myself "Hey! There's that machine shop where you get Tifa's final weapon!". To my surprise, Squall never did become a Guardian Force in an attempt to appease a decades old tradition. Maybe I missed that part...

To state that I was tired of remakes and then state that I love SE was obviously cynic sarcasm. I'm sorry you missed it.

But if you want to get technically, every iteration of Final Fantasy has been fundamentally changed in one way or another. I can post a screen shot of FF1 and then post a screenshot of FF13, I know how to use the img and url tags, good job, so do you. We can all use BBCode.

To argue that the leap in technology = innovation is a moot idea.

The idea of moving pixels around on a screen was stolen from Pong, Asteroid and whatever mid 70s game you want to throw around.

                              Notice the redundancy.

You can enjoy Nintendo, I can enjoy Sony. I'll just resolve to never be misfortunate enough to team up with you in Socom.
I like hoW you throW out the sarcasm card when you have no arguement left.

If you haven't noticed, each Zelda has been different and each Mario has been different... Sports and Party games don't count because they are not part of the main series...

and did you just equate the wii-mote to Atari and Pong? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

                                I WAS gonna say alot of things about how retarded in general this is but i just want to say that people are only defending Sony these days because they are #1, very rarely do people post these days arent totally biased on one side. The main deal is....i see people bashing Nintendo for things that Sony did as well, yet they totally overlook it just because is Sony even if they done the same things(or similar). Yet they dont admit its true or try to diverge the point of things when people bring it up >_>;

Being a fanboy is ok, but being one for no reason is...yeah @_@
