Re: Which console do you want?

In fact, I think this is a VERY smart move by sony. why, well given the broad PS brand loyalgy, and especially in JAPAN, sony is betting all its moneh that the PS3 will be the host that will push the blu ray to success. As far as I know, and plesae correct me if I an wrong, Japan does not embrance the XBOX that much. So, that situations gives sony a nice gap over MS in terms of console establishment for the upcomming generation. If, the PS3 does at least half as good, in terms of console sales than what the PS2 did, then id say it will pretty much define the standard in next gen players.

I am sure that many of you, as me, would hate to live that BET-VHS drama all over again. It will always be more convenient to have one standard format. This will also benefit consumers, since many people wont be able to afford both players, and ohters simply wont see the need to. It will be a pain to dee in best buy, circuit city etc... 2 verions of movies, one in BR the other in HDDVD.

Or this "hi, im looking for 'smallville season 7 on br" "sorry sir, we only got the HDDVD" that will be a very very bad thing.

Re: Which console do you want?

Nay believers laughs at a 300-400 mp3 player.

Hahaha, they said, who would need 30 gigs of storage, Apple putting out over price stuff as usual.

      Then the revolution came.

Hahaha, why would you pay for a 4gig mini, when you have a 30gig for the same price. Don't need something that small.

Then the it became the hottest item on the market.

PS3 is PS3, it has a bunch of things in that case, and it's not over priced, it's under priced. We know that, heck everyone should know that by now with all the press runarounds after these yrs.

Now all that needs to be determined is if sony can pitch it to the developers and consumers.

Also the fact that since BR player is not an economic of scale component, it can rapidly price drop in the next yr if it sells.

Unlike 360 DVD player, which can't price drop. DVD players is as cheap as it's going to get at this stage.

If the 360 can drop $100 in the next 2yrs, PS3 can drop $200+.

So if you decide not to buy it, fine. You don't have to win the battle to win the war, but don't be supid and predict something so easily.

Same could be said of expensive Computer Gamer rigs. WHo would pay 2k+ for games? Apparently we do.

The war between formats will be decided by the big dogs and not us little people. The movie companies will have a HUGE say in the format that comes next. I imagine there will be some people in the background wooing execs and padding pockets to get theirs to be top dog. For us, only time will tell who will be the victor.

I believe too many people take into consideration of what the Ps3 really is. Yey they put 60g in it, hurrah, would you ever need 60g? ever? And the graphics Arn't really good, if you do any reasearch they are worse, in pluss on E306, wich everyone is mistaken about, the only game trailer played in "Realtime" Was the Hawk game, and that game looks worse then a friggen Duel Screen game, im serious. Another thing about sony, that "I" ( yes i can have an opinion so shut the hell up ) Dont like is they're games. Yea they have the sequals to manya games such as GTA (wich is coming out for 360) and medal gear solid (another 360 game) but then all you're left with buying is poker games, and need for speed games. I gotta hand it to sony on how much money they spend on the dummest games i've ever seen. Some named *Shooting gallery 05* *Megaman X* and *Bomberman* as some of there games, with graphics matching a friggen gameboys, and use none of the potential the system can offer, and they "will not do it" People think they will, but they never do.

A word of advice, Research you're games before you make a decision. Not just because it has 60gig and you have about 1mill saves. But think about the games you will be playing too. I dont see any point about paying 600 $ and having no games to play.

TGM, dont you share the idea that by penetrating more PS3 on the market, and having a wide userbase, SONY might cause some sort of pressure for a BR standard?

First of all, the thread isn't about the console war, it's about what sytem you want. And with $600 pricetag to take a bet on a format that will not be used for years later, if at all, alot of people aren't going to be buying a PS3 until it's MUCH more affordable.

Come launch day, people will be standing with a innovative new system that could revolutionize the way games are played for $200(or less) on the right and a $600 Blu-Ray player with only a handful of interesting titles on the left.

Secondly, 2k for a computer rig is hardly the norm. Computers are upgradeable, noone buys an entirely new computer everytime the latest model is released. Comparing computers to consoles is a poor way to argue for a $600 machine that CAN'T do as much as a computer can nor be upgraded.

Sony doesn't actually buy games, because if anything developers are buying their way onto the market by spending so much time making sure their games meet the TRC checklist and get the final approval by Sony before being published. This is true for all companies that sell consoles. They each have a strict checklist in terms of "completeness".

I don't understand how you can misdirect your anger at Sony, when Nintendo is standing right next to them publishing sequel after sequel about the same dried up characters. EA is the big publisher that greenlights anything that sold more than two copies in the past. You wonder why there's so many different sports games? EA is to blame. Rockstar is just riding the green wave of dollar bills after dropping every new GTA into the ocean of gamers. There are some companies out there that could sell shit in a tin can and still make millions.

Each console targets a different group of people, whether they know it or not, and it really isn't necessary to purchase them all. I can safely say you can skip the Xbox 360 unless you're playing FFXI on it.

                    As if.

I'm sure we all remember way back when we had that awkward sibling or friend who wasn't at all accustomd to video games, and would wave the whole controller around in the air in a vain attempt to move the actual character. Well it seems Nintendo might have actually turned that awkward dance into a legitimate strategy. A lot of people saw DDR as goofy and for hardcore geeknerds even though in the privacy of your own home with all blinds closed and all doors shut it could be a rather addictive game. I just don't see this whole controller being taken to very quickly, if at all.

Please Waru, go back to the 9th grade and take another grammar course.

                      Except this time, pay attention.

Everyone has their own perception and opinion, but what no one is realizing is that no matter what, the PS3 will sell out at launch, in Japan or in America.

If you believe otherwise, then you're underestimating the install base afficianadoes.

My cousin's god-brother has 360, the kid is only 12 and he has one game, which is NBA Live or some other basketball game. The 360 is not a console for kids, neither is the PS3.

And do not underestimate price. When kids wanted the 360, parents were paying upwards of 1000 dollars for the system off eBay.

The point is, the price point of the PS3 is a moot argument, since it will sell out and be in high demand way into Fall of 2007. Sony gets away with this simply because they slap Sony on a console.

The difference between Sony and Microsoft is that Sony sets the pace and Microsoft follows it. Microsoft is the thermometer, registering what thet market wants, and Sony is the thermostat, setting the temperature.

"DVD Drive in a system!? Preposterous!"

Who was the company to put an expandability slot in their system, with the intention to go online from as far back as 2000?

Who later installed a Hard Drive in every system?

Who was the company to introduce something as wacky and wierd as the Eye-Toy, a generally luke-warm received contraption?

Who is the company to bash that company on not being innovative, but they themselves are releasing a camera addition?

Who is the company that had the 18-34 market tagged, and who is the company that realized that since they couldn't compete with a household name that had been in games since the mid-80s, they'd go after the former?

If anything is to be said here, it is that Microsoft is jealous of Sony's marketshare, so of course anything they say/do will be to target Sony. Don't feed into the hype of these CEOs who get paid based on the sucess of their systems. They don't care about us, and they'll tell us the half truth.

Peter Moore unfoolishly acknowledged that Sony would have to do some major slipping up to lose. That was the smartest thing he said, because he realizes that the sheer power behind the Sony name will be enough to sell out units at Christmas.

In all fairness, I plan on getting a HDTV that will give me the best resolution for my games. And in all fairness, I'm only getting one so I can appreciate my system more.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but please, do not make that opinion into fact. Argue your preferences, but at the very least, recognize market percentages, developer and publisher intentions, and then state who do you think would win.

I'd buy an Xbox360, but I honestly feel that in 3 years, games on the PS3 will be so far ahead that it won't even be worth the investment.

And besides, games are coming to both systems (MGS4 will stay a PS3 exclusive, hence, the trailer at the SONY Conference. . .) GTA4 is on both systems, so I don't know why Microsoft and fans are making such a big stink. . .

In addition, the stellar PS2 library that beat Xbox 5 to 1 will be playable on my PS3.

                      It's a win win. That's my take.

500 not 600 since you assume that things have to be realised before they enter the market, thus, a bigger HDD, wifi, HDMI, memory card slot, etc, are not "realised" and thus you contradict yourself by putting a $600 price tag when it should be $500, since only currently proven ideas, "core", should be sold on the market.

So before you even go ahead with your arguement, you must assume the $500 not the $600 just like assuming "Blu-Ray player with only a handful of interesting titles", when we don't even know which titles are BR yet.

To take a quote out of Mr. Ken's mouth at Sony, "the 1st year of PS2 90% were CDs. The 2nd year that almost reverse with 82% DVD"

2nd You don't upgrade nearly anything on a Computer. Especially a Gamer's rig.

If you want a new graphics card, then you must take out your old. The old thus is fallen.

Add to the fact Gamer's know that a game is as powerful as it's least common denominator in the Computer world. Take a 4yr old system (PCI, ATA, DDR, CDR, etc)

If you buy a new CPU(AMDx2) you would need to get a new board(Socket 939), you would want to use new ram(Dual channel 533), which would want to use a new GPU slot(PCI express) which would want a new HDD(SATA) and to run all that a 660w much higher power suppy just for the sake of it .

In the span of 4yrs a gamer's rig is in fact changed. Upgrade is a pointless arguement, it's a gimick if anything

Even if you can somehow convince your mind, that you're reusing some semblence of resuablity(your Floppy?), then PS3 is even more "upgradable" then a standard computer rig. PS3 can play: ps1, ps2, libary which can date 12yrs of upgrade.

So most likely even my FF7 will play on a PS3.

Simply put, choosing to buy is one's choice, but in terms of pricing. It is what it is, a robust product that cost more then production, with many functions.

Sony's job like ever other consoles is to convince you, you want those functions.

If you boil everything down, they sound incredible dumb, and not worth their price tag.

Considering the Wii's graphics. It is no different, if spinned differently. You are paying 250ish, for a motion sensor, and a GC in a different box. "It's fun because it moves where you point, for $250!"

360: We have PC games and...Halo! for $400, oh and you can pay us extras for Arcades, which are remakes of stuff you can probably find for free, oh and don't forget the faceplates! you should by those too, they're totally worth your money, shinny colors~

If you boil everything down, they sound incredible dumb.

As if what? You weren't even born when the first one came out. You were 3 years old when Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World came out. So how would you know? Comparing other companies shovelware to Nintendo's constant refinement of the gameplay mechanics for each successive sequel is laughable.

Maybe Sokarr thinks that innovation is still alive after Mario Party 8?

Or maybe the latest side-scrolling Mario remake.

Or maybe the Zelda game where you collect a mystical item at the end of a dungeon. until you have a full set of 8.

Or 3 in the first world and 7 in the next.

The most innovative thing Nintendo did in terms of gaming was Metroid FPS and Pikmin. Mario, Zelda, Starfox. . . all the same games we've been essentially playing since our wee ages.

And I, for the record, remember Mario. I remember my mom getting the UBER NES PACKAGE that came with Mario 3, the light gun, 2 controllers and every goddamned thing you required to play at the ultra-super level.

I remember watching my sister duck down and hide behind the backgrounds and get 3 whistles on the first stage and instantly warping to the end. It's not hard to remember these thing, especially when we revisit them every 5 years.

Maybe the formula works for some people: Familiar and rehashed characters, revamped worlds. I, for one, get tired of seeing Link save Zelda. . . from Ganon. . . Over and over.

The boy was the Hero of Time, you'd think he'd learn his lesson and move to a different nation.

On another note, the Paper Mario Arc of games are very fun to play.

If we don't like something, collectively, if our hatred for it throbs like an abscess beneath every thread, does that mean that they're doing something right?
