I found this game a few days ago, and at first I couldn't believe it. It has a direct in-game currency to US dollars conversion rate (10 to 1) and you can directly deposit / withdraw money into / out of your virtual account. They're even coming out with an ATM card where you can withdraw real cash from your virtual game account from any ATM machine.

In the game, you can get PED's (the in-game currency) from a variety of different things including killing monsters and mining minerals. The game seems really in-depth, with a lot of skills to level, weapons to choose from, and clothes to wear, among other things. This week, one guy found an in-game copper ore deposit worth 158,000 PED's ($15,800). That's a CAR.

One guy sold pretty much everything he had in real life and scraped together $100,000 to buy an asteroid. He developed this asteroid into a resort complete with 1,000 apartments, mining areas, and hunting biodomes. He now gets an estimated 120,000 PED's ($12,000) a month from this resort alone, which adds up to $150,000 dollars a year. Quite a nice income from a video game.

No, not all stories are of success, but there's plenty of people who haven't invested a penny in the game and are now easily worth $10,000. I just started yesterday, and I plan on playing it until I can get ToAU.

This reminds me of Second Life, also reffered to as Yiffy Life, where you can trade in your real money for their virtual currency. With that currency you can buy a plot of land, and sell stuff like virtual clothing, virtual architechture, virtual modes of transportation, and the like. Although in Second Life the exchange rate wasn't so static.

I wouldn't risk any real money with anything like this. So many people are scammed out of their cirtual currency as it is, I'd hate to see what kind of people this game breeds.

Yeah, you do have to be careful in the game. But the game also has its share of trustworthy and helpful people, a few of which I've met and have helped me a lot. It's all about finding the right people early on and sticking with them.

I remember when Second Life first came out, it was pretty big for its time. Is it still going strong? I haven't heard much about it recently.
