What are you doin? You're going to confuse the kid with all of this current generation technology.

Start him off right... Have him play the great NES games like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, The Legend of Zelda, Contra, Megaman 2, Final Fantasy I and II (if you don't have the NES versions the GBA versions would be sufficient enough)

Then get him going on Genesis with games like Sonic 1 through Knuckles and Phantasy Star.

Then move forward with the SNES using games like Super Mario World, The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, Mario Kart, Megman X, Donkey Kong Country 1 and 2, F-Zero, Aladdin, Final Fantasy 4-6.

Then of course move on to the Playstation and Nintendo 64. Super Mario 64 and the two Zelda's are a must. Final Fantasy 7-8, Metal Gear Solid (of course this shouldn't be played until he gets older), Banjo Kazooie, Super Smash Bros.

Then once all of that is done he can finally enter current generation stuff... You can't have him running amuck in current generation stuff if he isn't educated properly.

Did you not get into any of those games when you were a kid?

It's practically impossible to not get into them when you're that young.

If I ever have kids that's how I'm going to do it...I'm going to have them play NES games for the first few years, then step it up to Genesis and Super Nintendo then when they hit the age of 10 or so move onto Playstation N64 and then into current generation stuff and then into next generation and then whatever generation they are in.

A shame that you don't have a Dreamcast. There was that game about mice.. What's it name? ... Chu Chu Rocket! Great game :D If you can get your hands in one try it

I think that's on GBA also. No, I wish I had a Dreamcast. Ikaruga on Gamecube just doesn't feel right.

I'm surprised nobody's mentioned Crystalis for the NES. A kid with purple hair wakes up in a cave, talks to bunnies, and saves the world from a..Computer. SNK is love.

Also, it might be a little bit above his reading level, but Secret of Mana is a good one for kids. It's bright and colorful and full of slaughter! >.>

Damn, I can't belive I forgot about Crystalis! Especially since that's my "bored" game.

But, yeah, all the old oens are good. Started my 7yr old out on all the old NES ones. Gave him the goal of playing SNES Mario after he had beaten the other 3. That was when he was 5.

Now he's getting ready to beat FF3 so that he can start FF7. Or Kingdom Hearts...haven't decided yet.

Okay, all the people without kids are going to lose all respect for me after I post this. Those of you with kids, just trust me on this one.

Serious Task, your kid will love it. The controls and Gameplay, surprisingly were great. Has a variety of styles. Goes from a Platformer to a semi-racing game with his *ahem* Patty Mobile. >.>

Anyway, seriously. We bought this for my daughter for her 3rd birthday and we scored on it. My daughter loved it and my wife and I had a little fun teaching her how to play it.

Also, this may be too violent for your kids but my oldest daughter has been obsessed with Halo 2 for a year and a half now.

kingdom hearts would be great besides the fact the storyline gets a little deeper then most disney movies (im playing KH2 right now!), maybe for gc that that mario sunshine game and whats his faces mansion those would be great kids games

Ok, ok. ^^ I'll start him small with Zelda, Crystalis, Megaman and Life Force. Those were my favorite games when I was a little nerdling. Anybody got a cart of the TMNT arcade game? Or maybe >_> some alternate method of playing it?

We'll move up to SoM later. I totally forgot that game had multiplayer. The midget black mage was such a totally broken bosskiller ... >_> {Hmm.}

I'll probably still look into Mario Party since that seems like a good family game til he gets the coordination to play Smash Brothers. (At which point he'll probably already be able to hand me my ass.)
