Re: Anybody know a good game a 4-year old can play?
give him the old school games that were from NES system. mario brothers, duck hunt, mike tyson, etc. my nephew beat mario brothers when he was 4 or 5 years old, and metroid about 8 or 9 years old. he's 11 now and into those complicated games.
for a small child, retro games are the best bet. expect to pay a good amount of money for any video game aimed for a preschool audience.

To my great dismay, I can't get him to hold interest in any of my old school games. He's already a graphics junkie.
He has worked up to beating the easy setting of smash brothers melee, so at least he's got some skills.
WHAT!? No old school! The oldschool games rock! Well i was going to recommend smash bros. until i saw that it was said already. but if he can beat atleast the easy level cp chars then thats one step closer to getting him into the newer more advanced fighting games and more advanced games in general right?

Personally, I think Super Mario 64 would fit the bill.
It doesn't require much reading skills, it's not too violent, and it's amazingly fun.
If you don't have an N64 around, you cold go for Super Mario Sunshine, but that's alot harder and not as much of a "pick up and play" game as Super Mario 64.
If nothing else, you could try Super Mario Advance on the GBA.

Spyro the Dragon if you want a real game. Unlimited continues, and its a game that little kids can enjoy - especially if they understand that Spyro is little kid, too. Comical violence, spit fire at things. Yeah. Its a blast.

Any Mario game would be great, honestly.
Good job..I agree that Mario 64 would be aweseom for a kid(heck its aweseome for anyone) to play! but as for Sunshine i dont think it was to much harder except for certain parts, i think a little kid may get the hang of it after a few tries.
And Yeah all mario games are great...YAY for Shigeru Miyamoto!

I don't know how easy they are to find now, but I know two games that are perfect for children (and adults) to play. Klonoa 1 for PSX and Klonoa 2 for PS2. Great platofrm games, seriously look into them.
