Nah, I've never found MTG to be nearly as bad.

Granted, HS is only just started whereas MTG has nearly 15 years on it. But at least in MTG, Mana dictates what you can play. I'm not a big fan of the general card pool being so big and the class cards so small. There also doesn't seem to be distinct themes like MTG has.

For example, Lifelink is mainly white but also sometimes seen in black, and never in the other 3 colors. Direct damage is almost solely red, very rarely white (and only ever in combat). HS doesn't do this and it makes the game a little frustrating in that regard.

MtG is over 20 years old now. MtG Alpha edition was released in 1993.

But you're right in the respect that MtG is much better about keeping each color/faction with its own unique flavor and strategic style. Other colors may dabble (usually to their detriment or at an inefficiency cost), and that's not true in HS.

The game is just so stupidly RNG heavy it's maddening too.

I just raged out of a game where my opponent opened mana wrym (1/3) and I went coin -> sorcerer's apprentice -> arcane missiles x2 and only 1/6 hit the damn wyrm.

And yet any time the situation is reversed all the missiles hit my board. GTFO blizzard.

Getting back into Pokemon Y a bit. Managed to trade for a legit Keldeo (at least, I believe it's legit). Also, I didn't care much for the starters in this generation at first. But I've warmed up to Chespin a lot. His evolution, Chesnaught, really appeals to how I like to play. And he's so cute; he's a chipmunk wearing a hoodie!

Anybody here up for battling sometimes?

Playing FFXIV and Warframe on PS4 atm. Looking forward to Daylight coming out soon.

On handheld consoles it's still FFX that takes my time away from pew pew games etc...

Loving gaming atm, except for Dark Souls 2. Pissed me off so much that I went back to playing Darksouls1 with my son again.

Compared to the second iteration, DS1 is a lot more fun, especially playing co-op with the boy! The second generally looks and plays better (drops less frames and the controls are better etc) but the elements that they introduced make it far more frustrating a game for me.

My son has abandoned playing it completely, which is a great shame because there is definitely a quality game in there [somewhere!] - it's just more annoying to get to the good bits this time around

Grinding the hell out of jobs at the tail end of Chapter 4 of Bravely Default. Its nice SE figured out how to fast forward random encounters a la Atlus, but accruing JP remains as tedious as it ever has even with ability and item boosts. I think FFX-2 is the only game with a job system that didn't make me want to fall asleep.

The payoff on skills is usually worth it, though. Well, some of Merchant's higher skills suck but others are pretty good, though Swordmaster's Nothing Ventured and Freelancer's Mimic skills are my most abused.

BD kind of brings back memories of FFIX, at least visually. I'm amazed SE was actually surprised that this did well. Nintendo, Atlus, Xseed and countless others have operated on a smaller scale and done well in the genre.

Then again, this is the SE that thinks when people ask for an HD remake of FFVII, they mean some fully 3D, open world RPG with Advent Children's style. They could just do something like this.

Bravely Default originally began as a sequel to their spinoff title, Final Fantasy: The 4 Heroes of Light, but ended up being much more ambitious. Still, knowing how relatively unsung their other spinoffs are compared to the flagship series, I can see why they might have low expectations. Personally, I've liked the Final Fantasy spinoff games like Dimensions, or the Tactics series.

To be fair, FFT had a pretty solid conclusion and I wouldn't trust SE at all to make a good sequel for it.

I had to facepalm at that Squre Enix executive that was shocked that FFXIV and BD saved the company, and that people still wanted to play games exactly like the old Final Fantasy games. Because you know... People that like old Final Fantasy games might also be the people that like that kind of game. Shocking isn't it?

I never said anything about a sequel, just something of that quality.

Or hell, they could do a prequel set in St. Ajora's time (which is what I thought FFXII was supposed to be honestly though didn't pan out that way). I just want another game *like* tactics, not necessarily a sequel. I didn't care for the 2 GBA games at all. Or shit, why not even revisit Last Remnant? Yeah it didn't do so well, but it had a lot of good concepts (and some of the best music in any game, ever) and they left the ending open enough for a sequel. Just don't cock it up this time lol? I mean if Drakenguard gets another entry (1 was brilliant, 2 was meh) why not TLR or god forbid a new Mana or Saga game (I've pretty well given up on Star Ocean at this point sadly).


And yeah right now in Japan they think QTE's and big flashy nonsense like CoD are all the rage, which is why Capcom has gone all to Hell. Would be nice to see SE smarten up for a change and realize where their base is really at (and arguably always has been).

It was Tactics Ogre: Let Us Cling Together. If you have and SNES emulator, Aeon Genesis made a fan translation of the Super Famicom version.

Its going to be hard to find at EB or GS now, but it is on PSN and the PSP version offers more branching story paths than the original. Its not as linear as FFT was.
