I think the traversal mechanics in Prototype are definitely more fun than inFamous 1. inFamous 2's ice launch puts it head and shoulders above Prototype 1 & 2 in that category, though, and the combat is balanced better too. Prototype's combat is just... well... bad. You're powerful - almost too powerful, and it's counterbalanced by the game throwing tons of badly designed enemies with occasionally glitchy attacks at you.

It's not a horrible game, but aside from some "oooh!" moments when you unlock new powers or attacks, the rest of the game is yawntastic.

I think you're missing the point here. The argument isn't about which game is better, which is Infamous all the way. The argument here is whether or not you can have some mindless fun in a game clearly designed for that. I mean seriously, YOU CAN KARATE-KICK! HELICOPTERS! WHAT THE FUCK ELSE DO YOU WANT?!

It's the same reason you play games like Just Cause or Far Cry 3. It's not for the story or for and interesting characters. It's to just sit there and go wild.

But being serious, Prototype did have some good points in spite of the city being a bit dull and lacking life, and the game throwing cheap and frustrating enemies at you because of how powerful they made Alex. The combat system was actually pretty interesting and there was a hell of a lot more abilities to unlock compared to Infamous. The mechanic of consuming people was admittedly interesting, and while the story was far from great, it was at least laid out in an interesting enough way to keep you playing through the game.

No, they go dark for weeks at a time. The patch notes they post are short/minimal and sometimes inaccurate, for example they may say they fixed something while after the update it's still clearly an issue. More often than not, they break something new. There are still tons of bugs to fix (crashes, saved data being lost, and that terrible netcode) besides balance issues that need to be addressed.

The ACE 23 is still an instant kill. The AEK is almost as unbalanced. Anti-air was a huge sore spot in the community(should flying a chopper be easy or should shooting them down be easy? it's a little more complicated than that.), but this past update nerfed repair speeds on scout helicopters, so it seems DICE took a side.

Yeah I remember they said they fixed the headshot glitch and yet I was still getting dropped by bitches with a SAR-21 in close range, which is absolute nonsense (600 RPM gun when I've got a 900 RPM AEK? I don't think so.)

I can't say it's a good game, but I don't regret my purchase in the slightest. It's one of those guitar hero style rhythm games, but instead of watching a crowd you're controlling a character that's beating up enemies. Connecting all the hits/notes feels a lot more rewarding and fluid than in other games, but a missed hit also feels significantly more jarring and throws me off pretty badly. They included a feature where certain enemies can hold power ups which require additional execution to obtain, which in the middle of a frantic section of a song can lead to some interesting choices. Do you take the health pack you desperately need and risk throwing off your rhythm and getting pummeled to death, or do you bank on keeping the beat to ride out the current wave of enemies? I kind of like it, as half the reason I picked the game up was to give me something other than Street Fighter on which to practice getting rhythms down on my stick and that throws in a small bit of decision making to the mix.

It's also got an amusing story as the backdrop for all the stage changes and fights. Honestly I don't think it was necessary, but it's done in a charming manner that makes it endearing.
