Finished Fuse last night. Time to pick up Remember Me this evening and hope it's better than the reviews say.

GT said it had some cool stuff going for it, but it's just got so many little bugs/bad design choices that hold it back from being a truly great game. The acting is also particularly bad.

I'm very much looking forward to your analysis on that one. It looked intriguing but I'm always wary of buying games on release, plus it had the whole kerfuffle about gender politics.

Thought I might share this -

Leaked E3 Xbox One reveal games shows Mega Man, Mirror's Edge 2, Banjo 4, Killer Instinct, and much more ~ The Arab Gamer - Gaming from the Arab World

So, a new mega man game at long last? Is Capcom *finally* going to attempt to get back into my good graces? We'll see.

EDIT: WTF LoL on CONSOLES?!?!?!? That'll be interesting. Also holy crap at new Killer Instinct (so the Rumors about RARE were right!) and Darkstalkers!!! (Wii U only makes me sad though... wtf.)

^ probably, but we'll know for sure next week. So long as it's not another stupid 8-bit "Mega Man 11" type deal...

9 and 10 were cute, but I'd like classic style MM game in next-gen graphics with stuff like destruction, interaction with the environment etc. MMX8 was a decent attempt but still ended up falling short.

What makes you think they're not going to run the series into the ground again? Or give it a needless reboot?

The only way they could possibly get back in my good graces is to release Mega Man Legends 3.

Well, perhaps even more worrying is that Inafune san is no longer with them, and I don't know if it'll be the same without him.

                      • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Played the Project X Zone demo.

I wouldn't say its a priority purchase for me. As expected, it plays a great deal like Super Robot Taisen OG Saga Endless Frontier on the DS, but I'd say it does so with much less strategy to it. That's being generous, too, considering SRT:OGS;EF was very light on it to start with.

As has been the trend with SRPGs for the last decade, placing units in close proximity to one another grants more opportunities to attack and beat down a single enemy unit, but since the strength of your pairs of units vary it'll be on you to figure out which units to use. For example, Ryu and Ken paird with Kite and Blackrose is broken off the hinges powerful and that's not counting the fact that Ryu and Ken can call in Devolita (or whoever, she's a blonde princess that reminds me of Tron Bonne) since she's an assigned partner for them. Putting the Valkyria Chronicles characters with the God Eater characters is similarly nasty for the same reason. The four Sakura Wars characters are pretty much the same way.

The problem I've found is the fighting input moves are just rather button mashy and meter-driven. Maybe I'm not looking closely enough, but there doesn't seem to be a great deal of difference in damage unless its a full-meter super attack or calling in another tag-team for a beat-down. There's really no challenge to taking out any single enemy unit when you find a reliable pair-up and the only incentive I saw to space characters back out was when I engaged the boss with too many units in proximity to each other - she attacked them with her super as group.

Otherwise the boss just had absurd levels of HP to whittle away. It was a one level demo and that might be misleading, but it didn't feel like the highlighted a compelling part of the game and the mechanics felt stale by the time I was done with the level.

Its just not that remarkable in the wake of Fire Emblem Awakening and even Devil Survivor, Tactics Ogre: LUCT and Jeanne D'arc had more going for them in the last several years. Endless Frontier was pretty dopey, too, but at least it felt focused and the character sprites were also a bit more lushly detailed. This just feels flat.

I'd say PXZ is about as mindless as Onimusha Tactics, really. If Monolith had a hand it in, it feels rather minimal, it feels more like the Banpresto side of this game was where all the work was done.

EDIT: Just for those that didn't play Endless Frontier, it was more or less like the point-cost based system of Xeno-games pre-Xenoblade, except you could string them into combos and chain between party members - or have them wait a turn to build up more points for a special attack. The "cost" of moves in PXZ is not communicated well.

Well, OK, spent a few hours with Remember Me yesterday and a bit more time with it today, so I'll just copy-paste what I wrote about it yesterday elsewhere.

I'm 3 chapters in, so not very far yet - maybe things get worse later, but my initial reaction to this game is pretty good.

                          Story
Remember Me revolves around Nilin, a woman who has had most of her memories stolen. The world is run by corporations, and the most powerful corporation is Memorize, a company that exists to do nothing but give or remove memories from people.

You soon learn that she's one of the rare people who are capable of not only stealing the memories of others, but to remix them; create false versions of something that has already happened and make someone's reaction change based on the fabricated memory.

The story is internally coherent, fascinating, and really brings up some interesting moral questions, and delivered in an interesting style.

Voice acting is passable in English, but if you speak French, the French voice acting is truly excellent (you can still turn on subtitles).

                          Gameplay
There's three major components to the gameplay in Remember Me.

Combat is an interesting affair of allowing you to create strings of moves which can yield different effects. The longer you can string together a series of attacks, the more powerful the attacks and the stronger the secondary effects are (reducing cooldown timers, more damage, healing, etc.). Some enemies can be beaten into submission and if you pummel them with enough main damage attacks, you can Overload them with a finishing move. Overloading enemies gives you extra points which help unlock more combat maneuvers. The feel is like a slightly faster Batman: Arkham City. Not quite as fluid, and missing the counter system, but lots of combat variety and enemy types on display to mix up your tactics.

Platforming is a mostly linear affair. If you've played Uncharted in any of its variations, you'll feel right at home here. There are a few twists like timed jumps or timed hazards like electrical fields or whatnot, but there's nothing exceptional here.

The most interesting (but reportedly rarest) gameplay element is the Memory Remix mode. In a few places in the game, at critical points, you can Remix the memory of a target. What you'll see is a whole scene from the target's memory, which you can then manipulate by altering specific elements. Changing some elements can cause the scene to play out differently; sometimes this gets you the result you want, and other times you get something completely unrelated that isn't helpful, or worse results in a memory of the target dying (which causes you to fail and rewind the memory because someone who is dead obviously wouldn't remember it by the time they met you).

                          Presentation
The world of Remember Me is set in a futuristic vision of Paris, France called Neo Paris. It has a distinctly cyberpunk look to it but still grounded in realistic architecture that is at once distinctive and eye catching. There's some really wonderful artistic worldbuilding on display here, and like many reviews I've seen have noted, you're often limited in where you can go, unable to really explore all the beautiful locations you can clearly see around you.

Character animations are good, colors are bright and vibrant without being tacky, and the game just oozes character. Audio is really excellent, with an awesome shifting soundtrack as you enter different areas or enter combat.

                          Overall
My early impressions of Remember Me are truly excellent. The game doesn't quite fire on all cylinders, but you can see it was made with a lot of talent and passion.

Maybe the game gets repetitive or bombastic later on, but so far, so good.

Hmm, one of the gripes GT had with the combat is the game seems to derp a bit when facing a group of enemies and you want to target a specific one, to keep your combo going. I can see how that would get incredibly annoying as for every hit past the 6th, you earn points that you can then spend on new abilities (some of which are apparently really, really cool).

A friend of mine picked it up and he's liking it well enough (though, he's also enjoying Too Human lol so... yah...)

Has anyone gotten State of Decay yet? It looks pretty cool but it's only on 360 and PC.

Well, it's SUPPOSED to be on PC but I didn't see it on steam - it is out now on Xbox though. Was watching a basic run-through by IGN on youtube and it's very reminiscent of Dead Island, but not nearly as tacky. It's also the dev's first actual game, and their plans are to do an MMO next if it does well :O

Not really a game I'm playing, but I did watch Escape from LA recently.

I know that Snake was inspired by the character Snake Plisskin, but I had never seen either movie. There are so many plot points culled from EScape from LA that you could make a drinking game out of Metal Gear Solid.
