  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

RE Revelation's AI partners are far more competent than those found in RE5, So I don't really even see the point of debating - those AI partners don't even draw from your ammo and supply pool.

Got Soul Hackers bright and early today. Its certainly a game of its time visually and in terms of its rather quaint view of how technology would take shape (aside from demon-summoning gun/computer hybrids, our smartphones kinda kick its ass). It gives it that "world of tomorrow" feeling Fallout has, though. The gameplay, however, has aged rather well. There's still some very 90s design in terms of space between save points - no "save anywhere" stuff. Being the enhanced port that it is, there are some nice flourishes made - such as being able to "hack" the game scale it to be harder or ease things up a bit, turn on auto-mapping and other things. New boss fights and 30 new demons were also added, along with the ones more common to the Devil Summoner series itself.

Much like the PS2 games there are negotiation traits you may want to pick up to make negotiations a touch easier - like Lady Killer for female demons and the opposite for male ones. Demons also have their moral alignments, other personal dispositions and expect you to use them or they'll become disloyal and may exit a battle if they don't want to follow orders. These are some of the bigger difference between demon summoning in the Devil Summoner series and something like main series SMT or Persona.

You can tell a demon to do something and they'll actually shoot out a text prompt saying they won't if they don't feel loyalty to you.

Between this and Guacamelee, I may be set for a good while. I'm waiting to see if Soul Sacrifice gets a demo before I consider it. I tend to get bored with the MonHun-style games rather fast.

I'll try again tomorrow, maybe, PSN seems to be having some serious issues tonight. Took forever just to get the download for Guacamelee initiated.

Also, yet another Vita firmware update! I just updated last week!

Yeah, apparently there's some baloney going on from yesterday's regularly scheduled maintenance. None of the PSN stores in any region are updated yet as of this posting, so it seems to be just something particular to the Store.

            So I hate EB.

The assholes didn't call me to let me know if the game was in or not, so by chance a friend of mine calls me saying he's on his way there to pick up Injustice and asks if I wanna hang out - so I checked with EB and yes, it did come in and I figured I'd tag along and grab then we'd hang out afterwards etc.

It was a bit late, but we still got there just before closing time... but the assholes had already closed up. So, on top of not actually telling me my game was in like they're supposed to with pre-orders, they closed early - the guy was looking at us too and just ignored us. So yeah, I'm gonna let 'em have it when I go in tomorrow.

Don't take this the wrong way, but no one working retail gives a shit what the time on your watch says. Most places actually set their clocks five minutes fast just to keep people on their toes and coming-in on time as is, so them closing "early" is a mere side effect you should be old and smart enough to anticipate by now. If they're pulling the gates closer together, take the hint and move on.

I've never given a damn about the people that point at their watches telling me when I need to open a place or when we can be closed. The store is open when the boss says it is.

                Playing Pandora's Tower (Wii).

It's good looking Wii action RPG brawler with a time limit (sort of like Dead Rising 2's time limit... you have to keep a girl alive by feeding her flesh from monsters in the dungeon, and have to return periodically to do so).

The game has this gimmicky chain device that you can use to bind / blind / immobilize / damage enemies, sort of like Wonder Woman's lasso on steroids. The problem is that the chain is controlled with the right analog stick (god only knows how it controls without the Classic Controller - I had no desire to even attempt it with the nunchuk + wiimote).

Camera is auto-controlled, God of War style, and "mostly" stays out of your way.

I'm not sure I like the gameplay enough to keep playing it. It's almost trying too hard to be a mix between Shadow of the Colossus's (story) and God of War (mash X to win combat) with RPG elements. I admire the ambition on display, but that stupid chain mechanic is infuriating because you have to make the pointer controlled with the right stick hover over an enemy before you can entangle it, and if it moves, you'll just miss.

Simply put it doesn't and, it isn't much better using a Gamecube controller either.

So is it worth picking up then? I was gonna go get it today, and trade in Dead Space 3 towards since I'm done with the game and they have a promo going where you get 30% more on a trade-in for PT.

Enjoying Guacamelee so far, the gameplay and all the nods to memes and games (Los Super Hermanos, Casa Crashers, Gata Grunon and more) are great. This is the game Castlevania Mirror of Fate needed to be.

That said, the text on the Vita version is killing me. Sony really needs to empasize to developers that an identical port to Vita is just not acceptable. Every crossbuy game I've tried seems to suffer this same exact problem - the game is often a straight port, with no consideration made to the eyes that may want to read information and follow the story without getting a migraine in the process. With this OLED screen, there's just no good excuse for compressing text so small you have to leer at the Vita to read it.

Yeah, Guacamelee is incredible. Wait till you hit the optional crazy platforming sections. Control the fists of rage. One section feels like Super Meat Boy, and the other feels like old-school Mega Man. Oh, and if you're using sticks to control, stop right now and switch to D-Pad. You'll thank me later (lol). Sticks are fine for combat, but D-pad is the only way to get past the harder platforming late in the game without losing hair.

By the by, US PSN Store is finally updated. Soul Sacrifice demo is downloading now.

                          Games I'm currently playing?

The Political Simulator, NationStates. The TravianGames Roger & Out (both web-browser games), I've recently started Dungeons and Dragons: Online, and I recently decided to dive into FFXI once I saw that SE allowed non-credit/debit card payment methods when I was registering my FFXIV Beta code.

I also intend to go back and finish some quests on my Skyrim Playthrough, and might decide to play FFXIII-2, which I've been wary of touching.

Finally got my copy of Pandora's Tower, gonna fire it up in a bit - feedback later.

Also cheevo hunting on Heart of the Swarm, nearly at 100% completion for the campaign ^^

EDIT: Really tempted lately to pick up Evoland since it's only $10, but I want to finish the games I already have going first.

Goes without saying in a 2D platformer, though in the towns where its more relaxed I use the analog stick. I've not shied away from the optional Platforming challenges I've come upon yet but that's a testament to Juan learning so well from Samus Aran, Mario and Super Meat Boy.

This ended up being a perfect compliment to Soul Hackers, which is swimming in pop culture references as well (I'm not even supposed to BE here today! Spooky looks like Fox Mulder, Carol J looks like a certain J rock star, etc.) Playing both and picking up on all these little touches has been a fairly good time.

                                So, I'm rather liking Pandora's Tower so far (I'm only just past the tutorial level) but there are 2 things that immediately stand out;

                                1) Very little initial explanation of just wtf is going on, who these people are and why they're together... it all seems rather haphazard and random.

                                2) For the love of God, WHY is there no option to invert the Y-axis?! It's hurting my brain and quite honestly screwing with my gameplay rather badly.
