If I expect to play on the go for more than 10 minutes I'll just bring my 3DS. Otherwise, Super Hexagon.

I play Guardian Cross on my iPhone but similarly to Armando, if I expect to be able to play on the go for more than 10 minutes I'll bring my Vita, 3DS or Laptop.

Let's see, all I play in my iPhone are Super Hexagon, Sword and Sworcery, Plants vs. Zombies and Jetpack Joyride. Everything else is 3DS and Vita. Hell, I have Jetpack Joyride on my Vita, so that's one less since i have a physical button to press. I'd say the same thing about the Steam version of Super Hexagon but I can't put a laptop in my pocket.

I find I consistently perform worse on the smartphone though. It's a bit irritating.

Well, yeah, sometimes you lose track of where where the sensitivity is on the corners, its one of the many reasons I find touch-only controls so problematic.

Isn't the Vita version of Jetpack Joyride touchscreen only? I've played the hell out of Jetpack Joyride on Vita (almost got all trophies, just need to make a little more money to purchase a handful more items), and it's all touch controls as far as I can tell, with no option for buttons. The PS3 version is all buttons, however (obviously).

For what it's worth, I also have PvZ on my Vita (1 trophy away from platinum!), so if I think I need to game on the go, the Vita comes with me. I'd kill for a PSV version of Super Hexagon.

As for Clash of Clans, I've met a few people who play, and it's OK I guess, for a pay-to-win "MMORPG". Not something I'd devote either time or (especially) money to.

I play Solitaire (good old Solitaire) and Bejeweled on my phone. I used to play Draw Something until Zynga bought it and turned it into a steaming pile of crap. I only play games on my phone when I'm using the restroom, and sometimes at work if it's slow, but in that case, I'm usually on Facebook.

I used to play Bejeweled but then I realized getting a high score is based on luck.

Finished Heart of the Swarm, now back to Xenoblade.

Pretty good campaign overall. A few disappointments (some minor, some pretty massive honestly) but overall a solid step up from WoL. Really looking forward to LotV in a couple years.

I've always been able to use the D-pad or buttons for it. Maybe I enabled an option for it somewhere. The only thing that's activated hot/cold is the use of front or back touch in the game. Can't have both active.

Which of these would you recommend most? If you feel like posting a break down / synopsis of gameplay that would be cool too! I'm looking for more since Clash of the CLans has a 15-20 minute window between raids.

Pay to win? I don't pay anything and I win, lol... You can pay to get jewels that help you speed up your camp upgrades, but you dont need to pay for them as long as you can wait the 1-8 days for the improvements to finish. Again, I dont pay and I enjoy the hell out fo it.

Super Hexagon is what would be considered a "tunnel escape" game, you're a little triagle at that can rotate around the edge of a hexagon and you have to evade all incoming walls in whatever shape the take on. Naturally, the game overs come fast and the visuals get a little trippy after a while. Its got great chiptune music and its a very good compulsive/pick-up-and-play kind of game. Even though it is brutal, the quick loading from game overs means there's plenty of opportunities to try again instantly. Runs you a few bucks but its well worth it.

Sword and Sworcery is a retro-inspired point-and-click adventure with rhythm game elements and twitter integration. It has in interesting, aloof narrative to it as well. Think this one costs about $5 still, but its fron the guys that brought you Critter Crunch on PSN and Might and Magic: Clash of Heroes on DS and everything else. They're good peoples.

Plants vs. Zombies? Surprised you don't know this one. Its the tower defense game that most tower defense games wish they were. I guess you could say is also a light RTS. More or less you're a zombie apocalypse survivor that create a garden of offensive and defensive plants to prevent zombies from reaching you and eating you. You accrue sunlight points gradually and must spend the on the various types of plants at your disposal to mount the defense. Its pretty charming and if its not free or 99 cents on iOS now, it will be again inevitably

Jetpack Joyride is a runner game. You play Barry Steakfries, who auto-runs from left to right by and jumps/flies by way of the Jetpack he stole from a science lab. The goal, like Super Hexagon is to avoid hitting hit by barriers and, additionally, missiles. Barry can access power ups that transform his jetpack into a various things, which shake up the Jetpack angle and give him one extra hit to take while he has them equipped. And the further along you get, the faster everything gets. Its essentially a test to see how far you can get without dying and the achievement system is implemented well enough to give you new challenges and also ideas of how to play the game differently. Its free on most platforms now.

Jetpack Joyride is pretty great, incidentally. I tossed $2.50 at them for x2 coins, and it was pretty worth it. Wouldn't buy the one-time amount coins, but it's a good game for the low price, and even a good game at $2.50.

                                ---

Currently playing God of War: Ascension. Maybe I'm jaded but even though the game is artistically awesome and technically brilliant (naturally since it's built on the God of War 3 engine), it's not really super exciting to me. The game is definitely harder than past iterations though. There's a number of really, really annoying enemies that are harder to deal with than in past games. There's also a missed opportunity in that you can switch what element your weapons are infused with at any time, but enemies don't seem to take any more or less damage irrespective of what you're using, though some are more vulnerable to certain special attacks and magics than others. I think Sony Santa Monica played it way too safe with this title, and it shows. I'll still finish it, and the platinum trophy doesn't seem to be terribly difficult, but this certainly hasn't been my most surprising purchase of 2013 so far, that's for sure.
