PS Vita is more a tiny bit more likely than PS3. It's got the touch screen to make a port that has sensible controls, but obviously less install base.

Square-Enix wouldn't dare not actually produce a product they've announced, would they? They've never done so, ever. Nope. Never. Ever.

    Of course not!

This is why we cannot have nice things. If you wanted to play it that badly and you love the artistry behind it, why not actually reward the creators by paying for the product?

@ Your last statement. Why pay for something if I get my expectations up for it and it doesn't turn out to be the way I want it? I'd open the game, voiding the "refund" process of the game and would lose 50% store value for it since Gamestop wouldn't give me back my money. However if I rent it, try it out, don't like it. Can send it back. Pegged you better than that IM.

As for your giggle fit, that hurt my pride a bit. :x Thanks. Seems everyone on the forum likes making an ass out of me (waits for witty retort)

Honestly, its a small miracle that Ni No Kuni is making it west at all. Level 5's US studio is tiny. They're much more capable of getting those eShop games out in a timely fashion than something on the scale of Ni No Kuni or even Professor Layton On that latter one, I'm amazed Nintendo only publishes and doesn't step in to localize, which would speed up the release dramatically. Seems to be a pride thing with Level 5, though, because Sony exclusives outside of some of their early PS2 games have the same lengthy localization process.

Whatever the case might be, Ni No Kuni is a rare breed. If you want RPGs that are more in the spirit of what the PS2, DS, 3DS and PSP have been enjoying renting does not help. This is not helped by the fact that PS3 gamer have become as peculiar if not more than Nintendo diehards on console releases where niche third parties are concerned. Renting Ni No Kuni likely ensures you'll see more weeboo garbage like Hyperdimensional Neptunia and Ar Tonelico on Playstation platforms and less of the RPGs that defined the PSX and PS2 era.

As for whether or not you can be sure you'll like it - that's what the demo is for. If Ni No Kuni bombs, Bamco will reconsider bringing games like it and Level 5 might shift more attention to the portable and iOS markets where they can actually make more money. Or just keep games like this for Japan.

I'm highlighting the hypocrisy in your statement that you were dying to play this <rare sort of game> then immediately turn around and say that you're going to rent it.

I wonder why this is a rare sort of game, especially when you figure in for localization, hmm?

Maybe, just maybe, if there were fewer people like you who were more interested in your pocketbook than actually supporting the games you like, we'd see more of those games made and localized.

By the by, I'm not armchair quarterbacking here. I have 2 copies of Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch coming to me. One from GameStop for the steelbook, plus the CE Wizard Edition direct from Namco Bandai.

As for your giggle fit, that hurt my pride a bit. :x Thanks. Seems everyone on the forum likes making an ass out of me (waits for witty retort)
I'm sorry you took it personally. I was trying to make light of the fact that Square-Enix is a shambles and most of the rest of the world has wised up to their shenanigans.

I mean the game looks fun and stuff, but if I don't like it I want to have the ability to say "This isn't for me." and just send it back. That's why I have Gamefly, so I can test the game then go to the store and buy it. I don't use Gamefly as a means to screw a game company out of money, if I like their product enough then I will buy it. Hell I even bought the entire Fallout series, even though I hate it. Because I support Bethesda.

There's been a demo up on the PlayStation Store for a while, so why would you need GameFly to tell you if you'll like the gameplay?

So I broke down and tried DmC demo.

Loved it. ^_^ Pleasantly surprised really, I didn't think NT could pull it off but they did. I *still* dislike the new Dante for several reasons, but new Virgil is loads better & the combat is as good as ever, even if the framerate isn't up to par. I can see myself buying it soon as it goes on sale at a decent price. The new controls kept throwing me off though lol, I had a hard time adjusting to Dante in 4 with the swapping styles on the fly, and the Angel/Demon stuff throws me off just as much if not more rofl. But then it's been ages since I played a DMC game, so it's all just muscle memory that I gotta get used to once again.

I really, really love some of the sick combos you can pull off - I especially love that finally, at long goddamned last they gave Dante a weapon that can break through blocks - that's what always pissed me off to no end in God of War and other games like that, when enemies block and mess up your combo and you have to jump through a million hoops to deal with it (or start a new combo). Nope, new Dante says fuck that noise!

I miss the music from the other titles though, that's one of the things that felt off - at least in the demo. DMC4 in particular had a great battle theme...

See, now don't you feel silly for basing your opinion on reviews instead of from impressions of people who actually own the game?

                  ---

Finished my platinum trophy on Persona 4 Golden. Just a shade over 200 hours including one new game+. Could have done it in less but enjoyed taking my time. No regrets.

Working on DmC now. 10 missions in, will see if I can finish it before Ni No Kuni arrives on Tuesday.

No, I really don't wish to. You just got done going off on me because of something you imagined that I typed, and now you want to be on my friends list? Color me not interested.

I don't recall me going off on you. It was more or less a swap of words, a debate. But to each their own. I'm trying to make more friends.

I make no bones about laughing at Square-Enix. As you know, I'm pretty consistent about it - frankly because I think they deserve all the derision they get and then some for their lamebrained business decisions the past several years. Between the train wreck of FFXIII + XIII-2 + Lightning Returns + FFXIV / ARR, there's not exactly a stellar track record of excellence on display.

At no point in that post did I laugh at Melody as a person, yet she took it personally. That wasn't my intent. I might have had a private chuckle over the naivete on display, but there was no malice involved. Believe me when I say that if I want to go out of my way to insult someone, I make it crystal clear.

                            ---

Moving on, DmC is really impressing me with its gameplay. The set-piece boss battles are fantastic. 1 day left before Ni No Kuni, I don't know if I'm going to make it to the end.

I think you're being just a tad harsh, don't you?

Yeah SE definitely deserves some harsh criticism, but it's not like everything they've done has been a colossal F up (FFXIV's launch not withstanding; Yoshi has done a tremendous job fixing that mess). 13 and 13-2 were definitely below expectations, but I still don't feel they're as horrible as some make them out to be. I like a lot of the gameplay changes that have been made, just the cast & storytelling hasn't been up to traditional SE standards (Noel & Sara were a step in the right direction though). I'm reserving judgment on Lightning Returns for now, and I haven't liked the trailers nearly as much as that epic 30+ minute presentation they did. I feel like that video gave far more insight into the company's creative minds than anything else they've shown thus far.

Speaking of SE though, what happened with them & Tri-Ace? I'm just curious because the last game TA made was Resonance of Fate (which I'm only missing 3 achievements now thank God...) and that was published by SEGA, not SE.

Update: Well, here's a cool looking game using ideas I've espoused many times over the years - Path of Exile

Kinda ticks me off, but also glad to see it work. SE, you missed your shot at this with Materia.

I am? <- This is symptomatic of modern era Square-Enix.

Final Fantasy: All The Bravest encapsulates everything I hate about Square-Enix these days as a developer. Their studios used to be focused on making games that were engaging, fun, and with clarity of vision. Now they're all about graphical wankery and wondering how to sell you Yet Another Piece of DLC. Individual titles manage to escape this curse (Crisis Core, KH Birth By Sleep, KH3D Dream Drop Distance), but so much of their output this generation has prioritized making money or milking fans instead of delivering a worthwhile experience.
