Just stinks that all that work landed me somewhere in the 10,000s on National rankings and some sicko has lasted over 20 minutes on level 1 to get #1. I'll never get that good.

Nah, he's been beat long ago, at least on level 1 and 2.

        Tried out the DmC demo.

Liked the platforming aspects, that's an area the series has been lacking in. Graphics are nice and the level design is fun.

The action was somewhere between DMC and GoW, but I guess that's where it needs to be if you're ditching the fixed camera angles of prior entries and you have the Unreal Engine knocking the framerate down to 30. The result is you lose a bit of the edge other DMCs had in this regard, you still need to evade damage, but it doesn't feel as crucial as in past entries.

Story seems needlessly self-important. It wants to tell a good story it doesn't have. I would usually say this is par for course with DMC as a franchise except everything barring mopey old DMC2 hammed it up pretty good to salvage its derpy stories. I don't have a problem with the new Dante, really. He's okay, but given the original Dante was kind of relic of the late 90s action film with dumb one-liners and there were fast and witty women in their 20s there, some of those sensibilties are lost with the teenage conversion. Reboots are all well and good, but c'mon, everyone likes the big dumb action movies of the 90s - we wouldn't be having revivals like The Expendables and A Good Day to Die Hard if that were not the case.

That and daytime levels are a problem. I like the whole "twisted city is alive and wants to kill me" thing, but much like Resident Evil 5, putting it in the daytime loses some of the mood. DMC stuff should be set in the night - save the daylight for the end of the story.

As for the boss fight, it felt rather Zelda-ish. Its hard to say that's actually a bad thing since for Zelda boss fights are often a fun highlight and this was as well. It does seem unusual for DMC to have a boss fight with that kind of structure to it, though.

Overall it was a good demo, nowhere close to bad like the internet drama queens are making it out to be.

I'm not buying the game so it's not a big deal, but the new Dante is freaking awful. The "old" Dante had more personality in his little finger than him in his entirety.

            Which Dante?

If we're talking DMC2 Dante then this one has him beat by a long shot. There's a moment in the boss fight that did remind me of the sassing Dante gave Cerberus in DMC3. This demon starts to rant about she's over ten thousand years is and Dante tells her she doesn't look a day over ten thousand, which she doesn't take well. So it has some of that, but it was only in that part of the demo.

Considering we are talking about a younger version I'd say Dante from DMC3, by far.

              Edit > That reminds me I was supposed to buy the HD collection (and the manga), but never did. I want to at least play DMC3's special edition. <_<;

Super Hexagon popped on Steam last night. I managed to get into the top 100 on level 1, but that victory lasted all of four hours. I think Terry capped the rankings in this version to discourage competition.

I did get a new personal best at 83 seconds, though.

The control scheme was bad and let's not get started on the combat, the powers were cool and all but they could've done a lot more with Dishonored, the fact that it felt like a FPS version of Assassin's Creed didn't make it any better. This game should've been left in the hands of the people who know the genre best. UBISOFT!

Let me go over WHY I didn't like the game in detail.
The control scheme felt funny, I had a hard time toggling between my menu's at one point between using the Back and Start button on my Xbox Controller. Also I had a problem with the combat seeing how enemies spotted you BEHIND cover!!!!! If that's one thing that ruffles my feathers in any stealth game is an enemies depth perception, like they have the Eye of Kagura or something man. Honestly, another thing that bothered me with the combat was the fighting system itself. Yeah you could counter attack, but if a there are two men in front of you, one jumps in, you parry him, the other guy lands a perfectly clean hit and your health is being eaten like Kellogs Frosted Flakes, raw and without the damn milk. Not cool man. Not cool. Also the last thing that pissed me off was way you had your health and magic potions auto-keyed for you, like you were too stupid to do it on your own so the game implemented a way for you to do it. Which if I remember correctly magic was on RT.Which god forbid I ever needed that for I don't know...BLOCKING! I may have the control scheme wrong on that part, and feel free to correct me.

                  • Re: What games are you currently playing?

Control Scheme D is pretty much identical to Skyrim's default with a smidge of Bioshock's default in it.
Health potions are only autokeyed when health is seriously low, which I don't see a problem with.
Auto-use can be disabled in options, in fact, there's lots you can tweak in there, like turning auto-aim off.

More or less, the options menu and manual are your friends.

Additional Protips: If the enemy sees you behind cover, you're not really hidden. Leaning out doesn't really give you and advantage if you weren't fully behind cover to start with. It helps to invest in Dark Vision early to get a feel for the enemy's vision range.

My only gripe with Dishonored - and this is after three runs on it - is the High Chaos/Ghost approach seems to make Mission 7 real fussy. I've killed pretty much everyone in that mission and fairly sure i wasn't seen (no audio or alert iconscame up) and still somehow can't get Ghost ranking. And I can get it in mission 8 even though that level is a freaking hornet's nest. Haven't really tried to fully stealth Mission 9 yet. I'll probably try it on low chaos and see if that helps any. Having more weepers because of high chaos probably isn't helping me.

Are you going for the Achievements/Trophies? The only other thing that irks me about the game is the Guards range when they jump to attack you. I find it funny how I am sitting at the BOTTOM of a stair case. A Guard can jump and then hit me. Weepers aren't an issue for me. I stick to the rooftops and avoid ground levels if at all possible, since the assassin's lurk on the mid-low levels. Fighting those and Weepers is a real pain in the ass. Since the Sin's will flank you while the Weepers swarm in and hold you.

Very few games get me interested in achievements, but Dishonored is one of them where I have bothered. Since I've already had the high chaos experience anyway, I probably will just try for another low chaos run. Since there's also the Dunwall City Trials DLC coming up, the game is going to be opened up to all kinds of leaderboards in a couple weeks, so I'm kinda warming back up and sweeping up remaining achievements along the way, yes.

I was never one for gamerscore/trophies. It's just a virtual token that you can show credibility for, just for completing a difficult task in a video game. No thanks.

I enjoy them, helps get a little extra mileage out of games (plus now MS has started doing rewards based on your gamerscore).

And that comic was priceless XD

I prefer AC3 to Dishonored, and Corvo really just wasn't interesting (well, he was mute the whole time so...) but yeah, lol @ Altair (still luv the guy).

I still do not get why gaming is going towards this point/reward BS.... what ever happened to playing a game to get to the end of it and beat it?

I just wish achievements were optional and you could disable them altogether. Sometimes they do give you good ideas you may want to try out, but the whole trophy crap is meaningless to me.

Now, if they provide in-game rewards that's a completely different story. Like "Finish in hard mode to unlock another character", or "Do this challenge to unlock this item/cutscene/thing in game", now that's something I can actually enjoy.
