And it was OK. The little girl was unbearable and the ending was trite as can be, but it was a fun RPG. I love Tri-Ace.

Got sucked back into Skyrim again. Working on my Nord which I've dumped 300 hours on now. Finally decided to team up with the Imperial Legion. The lore in Skyrim is very well done, I had a fun time listening to General Tullius on how the war started and the peace treaty came about. I am also preparing for the Dragonborn DLC. However from the trailer it does look very fun, but I am thinking Bethesda might throw a curve ball on the whole flying mount thing. I am sure they will give you points in the game where you can and can't fly. It would be amazing if they're going to open up new continent areas, I'd love to go back to Morrowind, and I am hoping and wishing they'll put spell creation back in the game. >.<

Speaking of Skyrim, there was a new DLC trailer for that

Interesting that this DLC takes us back to Solsthiem - the same place as Morrowind's Bloodmoon expansion. I think its partially to throw a bone to Morrowind fans that wanted to see some of that world in HD while keeping some Skyrim Nord assets in there since it this is largely a Nord area within Vvardenfall. Also, Morrowind was loaded with Dwemer ruins, so we'll probably get a couple more of those as well. I just hope the shouts in this expansion aren't as lame as the second Call Dragon one we got in Dawnguard.

As for Halo 4, I've been having a good time with it so far, though I think the collision detection is a bit off online as replays have consistently shown me getting snipered through rock and metal, as well as magical long-distance melee kills.

Not that any of this deters me from capturing flags and winning that way. that's really all I care to play in multiplayer. I will have your flags and possibly bludgeon you to death with them. So bring your snipers and bipedal mechs - once I've learned your conventional tactics I will learn a way to screw with them and still get your flag. I want your flag because of reasons.

Main campaign is gorgeous and fun so far. 343 really exceeded my expectations so far.

Could be lag compensation? In TF2 it's perfectly normal to peek out of a corner, hide again, and then die from a headshot. Because of lag the server won't get the message that you've been shot until after you hid, but it rewinds your position based on the ping and confirms that yes, the sniper's shot should've connected.

TF2 on PC doesn't have to compensate for poor aim due to the more precise mouse controls, on consoles bullet hit detection is usually wider to compensate for the slower response of analog control. So while some of this might be attributed to lag, there's still plenty of room to question how forgiving the hit detection was made to be.

              Beat Halo 4.

It was good, a little over hyped though. The new trilogy is definitely off to a great start, but I'm expecting more story-wise next time around. Hopefully Spartan Ops will help fill the void. Also gonna see if there's a legendary ending.

I do like how they handle teamkillers in Halo 4. I was about the score the last point for a CTF mage and a fellow named I BE SOLAR decided to shoot me in the back for the 100 points. I got the option to boot so boot I did.

That's been in since Halo 3. They tweaked it a bit in Reach.

More important to note is that you now get points for guarding the flag carrier, the carrier gets a freaking weapon now (the "flagnum" as it's called) and they've made it so everyone can see the flag at all times. They've done a really good job of improving objective games in general. I especially love that you can pass the ball now in Oddball and Grifball.

Typical fare for most Halo games.

Mal insists most good things are overrated, though. Anything he does like he still bitches up a storm about.

Halo's strength has never been reinventing the first person shooter, but doing what FPS does incredibly well and maintaining a good sense of balance. Even the updates to Halo 4's multiplayer reflect this. They don't even go overboard with the perks. Some games let you stack them, Halo 4 forces you to face a trade-off and once you're in-game you can't change your custom loadouts.

                        Yeah probably.

I got my expectations up from Frankie saying they were going to keep the games & books consistent - which they sorta have, but have also done some retcon bs too.

I'm not a fan of Halo and I most likely will never be, but there are a LOT of fanboys that hype the ever-loving shit out of it.

It's genuinely a good series of games though, so I guess some of the hype is warranted.

I never take spin-off novels that seriously. If I did, then Captain Kirk is still alive in the Star Trek universe because William Shatner wrote a book.

As far as a metaseries goes, Halo does it better than most (.hack// springs to mind as well), but you don't want other media restricting what game designers want to do. Its largely why Nintendo didn't want to have a Zelda timeline, but then they realized Zelda has three timelines and once you get into multiple parallel timelines and multiverses you have you have carte blanche to do as you please. Same thing with Star Trek.

I don't think that's a direction Halo can go in, though, given its more straightforward military mindset. They want to focus more on the complications of the shit they step in like The Flood or Prometheans.

They're not really spin-off though - they've been official canon from Day 1 and offer much needed (and appreciated) backstory and lore.

The Forerunner trilogy has been a mixed bag; Cryptum was excellent but Primordium was one of the WORST novels I have ever read (DIAF Gamelpar).

Karen Travis' 2 books, Glasslands & The Thursday War (3rd book otw as well) have both been excellent however and did a tremendous job setting the stage for Halo 4. The Fall of Reach added an entirely new dimension to the Spartans and really helped endear me towards them and the universe as a whole.

And it irks me to this day, that even after Reach, Frankie SAYS they are keeping the continuity closely intertwined from here out, that there won't be any more contractions - and yet they still show up in game. Some of the things said in the campaign are either just blatantly wrong, or stupid.

I didn't think it was that bad. I did find it dissapointing that you couldn't marry Serana. She's an invaluable companion, but I do see why Bethesda didn't enable it. Considering she is of a vampiric race and considered "undead" which would play into necrophilia and would give Bethesda a bad running joke they don't need. But not that it would matter (Fallout series). Also there only is SO much you can do with love in Skyrim, I did find Hearthfire useful though, I liked building a house in Dawnstar. But they should tone the requirements down on it. So even get to the house in Dawnstar you have to be level 22 to start the quest where you need to slay the giant which then gives you access to the land plot purchase.

I did like the Frost Giants they added in the DLC and the Chaurus Reapers and they give a brief metamorphosis description in the loading screen. The thing I look forward to is the new enemies more than anything. If the expansion is as long as it's expected to be (Shivering Isle long) then I will stay a loyal fan to Bethesda.

I would like to see more of the Dwemer and would like to see Bethesda extend the races a bit with new DLC Hair/Facial Features.

It is also sad we don't get mods, but the PC version usually doesn't get the expansions on the same day, also I never got around to knowing if the PS3 got Dawnguard due to coding errors. The one thing I do love about Skyrim is the cinematic kill cams that are done. I love them and wish to see more of them in the new DLC. I would love it if they had Dragon Shout kill cams.
